Poor pace and rude starter
Pace of play at 9am on a Sunday was 5.5+ hours which is a little slow even by LA standards. I expected somewhere around 4.5 since it was on the earlier side.
The starter was pretty rude, as others have mentioned.
They also have a policy where if you're a single and they dont book a 4some for your tee time you have to pay the single rider fee. It states when you book the tee time that there is a fee for single rider, but most other courses only charge you more if they have a full group and you specifically request your own cart. It was only $4 but still, its not my fault you couldn't fill your tee time.
Doubt I'll be going back. I decided last minute to get in a round before an afternoon flight and this was the only course that had something available before 10am otherwise I may not have went in the first place.
Balboa city course
The tee boxes were dirt and the fairways complete trash. If you hit in the rough good luck hitting your ball out of it to even finding it. The course needs a lot go work. On a positive note they have new carts.
Solid public course
Solid course, with good greens and decent fairways......Flat and straightforward design.
Fantastic public course
Conditions were solid. One bunker wasn’t great but super wide course and greens were great. Definitely coming here again.
Worst shape I’ve seen this course in
Have played here 4-5 times over the past couple years. Usually in good shape. NOT today! Rough was ridiculously long - spent way too much time looking for balls just a few yards off the fairway, and lost a couple even though we saw right where they landed. Greens were fast, as always - but didn’t roll true, lots of “wobbling”.
Pace of play here is pretty much always bad, but get worse each time we play here. A full five hours today, waiting on nearly every shot! No rangers moving anyone along, no beverage cart slowing people down. I get that people want to walk the course, but if you choose to do that keep a decent pace. So much for the reminders on clubhouse signs to “play well, and play fast”!
Love the layout, but not sure we’ll be back. Five hours for a round of golf is ridiculous.
Getting by
The course is recovering from the recent rains. There are spots in one fairway (par 5 on the back) that has sand bags and roped off areas. Dummies in carts have still driven on and damaged the course. Looks like they are letting the grass fill on because even while in the fairway, on many holes, you were in a first cut type lie. No big deal, it’s a muni and they’re letting it fill in more before a cut (at least it seems to me). Greens were medium and rolling pretty good. One bunker I found had decent sand. Tee boxes fair. Pace of play good once the foursome in front of us left. The 80 year old guy in my group asked them to please pick up pace on the fourth hole since it was wide open and the dude took it personal and responded with “Don’t tell me how to play my golf.” Sums up the attitude of many new to the game players imo: entitled and inconsiderate. Played 14 holes in about 3 hours which is decent with a 3:10 time on a Friday.
Easy and bad fairways
Is a nice layout and really need better fairways, the weather is not the cause. This is poor work on the fairways, extremely bad. Good greens and challenging. The course is wide and easy to use your drive in every single hole. Carts are excellent and the pace is very good. Just work on the fairways.
Easy course
Easy course. Straight fairways. No elevation. Good track for beginners.
Fun on the Course
Perfect weather !!!! good group of players!!! good times !!!
Rain good
It had rained the day before or morning a bit, I don’t recall. But I had a one pm time and finished just before five on a Sunday! That’s unheard of. This is in part to only walkers being on the course and some cognizant of pace of play. Granted we still waited on half the holes for the group in front but no carts kept many players away. Wish this was the case more often.
Very enjoyable
I’m a 18 handicap and this is the.Pervert course for me.
My go to place
Been playing it for years and it’s in great condition right now, so is Woodley
First time here.
First time playing here after finding it on a Golf Now deal. Relatively flat and wide course. Greens are smallish to increase the difficulty a bit, but rolling nice. Played with 3 random, but friendly players. It’s a 30min without traffic drive for me, so I’d play here again, but it wouldn’t be tops on my list. Decent muni to get your golf fix. Worse part was the slow pace, finished the round in 4:45 on a Thursday starting at 10:30am, which was a bit surprising.
Average golfer on average course
Course is good for the money. Difficult to get on though. . Staff barely speaks to a certain kind of person but carries on full conversations with others who “look the part” holding up the line at times.. hole 3 has been under construction for over two weeks and food cart is as down.. so at hole 10 if your hungry or need a drink your assed out because cafeteria is too far away to stop get a drink or anything for that matter. For the rate it’s a decent course however I think sometimes staff can get to comfortable with that thought.
Great conditions
The only negative today was the slow groups that were in front of us. The greens were in excellent conditions..
great day
front 9 rusty and off back 9 best ever 2 birdies , 2 bogies 5 pars = 36 waiting for the weather to get back!!
