Update
Previous review has details about course and designer (Billy Bell). Usually I give this course three stars based on condition and crowds (design is always a four in my book). This time the conditions were better and the pace of play was outstanding, hence the four stars. The greens were very firm and as better players know this course is all about approach angles and iron play, so it was really playing fun.
Very Good Condition Considering the Ca Drought
I am very glad that Riverside golf course uses recycled water as the courses is in very good condition. Found a few soggy areas in the fairways and rough, and noticed the greens were taking a beating after being heavily watered overnight. Previous players weren't fixing their divots, and the edges of the holes were knocked down from when players were placing the pin / flag back in the cup. All greens were slow due to excessive water.
PLAY RIVERSIDE NOW!
COURSE IS IN THE BEST SHAPE I'VE SEEN IN YEARS.GREENS ROLLING VERY SMOOTH. AS USUAL PACE OF PLAY WAS SLOW, AVERAGE FOR THE AFTERNOON.
Bonco
Great track! Tricky fast greens ,you got to love it! Play it you will enjoy it if you are a single digit handicapper.
Excellent golf day
Great day golfing with my 19yr old son. Partnered up with another nice twosome, middle age guys. Busy Saturday afternoon golf outing, 1:30pm to 6:30pm. Great relaxing pace!! Loved the course for a 4 time a year golfer.
Great muni for the price
Good challenging course with fast greens for a muni.
Pace of play a bit slow on Sunday's but what would you expect on a weekend.
Nice course, great value
Course was is in ok winter condition, but lots of bare lies in the fairways. Staff was nice, rental pull carts in good shape. Grill staff very accommodating as we got a great veggie sandwich, though not on the menu. $54 total for 2 of us was great, considering it is a good basic course.
This course is well kept.
Would recommend this course to everyone regardless if beginner, intermediate or advanced golfers.
The revamped 12th is much nicer now
The only complaint I have is the practice green..has no flat areas to practice overall speed. So putting on actual greens become more of a challenge. The overall experience is very positive includes staff, grounds, service and range.
Great Value
I purchased by T-time on Golf Now, so what i payed was really cheap. The golf course was in great shape for this time of ¥ear. The bunker on number 10 has lots of rocks in it. Not good. Club house and Pro shop way over do for remodel.
Greens in good shape...but that's about it
Like the title says the greens and fringe we're in good shape but the tee boxes and fairways are in need of attention.
Good value
course was in decent condition for the time of year and the fact that there is a drought that has caused major damage at most area courses
Great Price
Winter conditions with brown grass. Overall the course was in good condition.
Great value
$20 for 18 holes and a cart is a great deal. We'll be coming back again.
A pleasant Saturday afternoon of golf
Started on time just after noon as a twosome following a threesome. Pace was good all afternoon. Although it was cart path only the course was not all that wet....that is not a compliant. Greens are in good condition....players need to repair their ball marks.
Riverside Muni
Our group of 4 had a great time on the best muni in the State of California.
Ok
For the money it is ok.
Very good topography for a muni course.
Moguls Belong on Ski Slopes
A lot of the fairways had "moguls", small hills scattered across the fairway. If you stop on one of these, you have an uneven lie, making it hard to shape some shots. Grass was spotty too: you may be in the fairway hitting off of a bare lie. It was a fun course though, not real difficult.
William P. "Billy" Bell - classic
Course architecture fans rejoice! Fresno has a Billy Bell design that will delight. Those that know the Bells (William P. and William F.) know that their work is prolific and lists some of the best courses in California. For those that don't, I encourage an internet search on the two of them. Unlike many modern architects whom simply seek to punish and mistakenly equate hard with good, the brilliance in Bell's designs is in the playability for all levels, while still presenting a challenge for better players with angles/small greens/bunkering.
Overall - 3, great design, course conditions not so much (overall would easily rate 4 stars if/when conditions are better).
Pace - 4, Saturday twilight the course was still crowded and we finished in four hours-ish.
Course conditions - 2, the high volume of play results in the corresponding wear and tear.
Staff - 5, the First Tee program is awesome and the amount of people (50ish?) on the range when we arrived was impressive. Kids/parents/instructors all buzzing about and having a great time while engaging in the various games/lessons/stations that were set up. If that isn't enough to impress, you can always pop into the pro shop and have an insiders' discussion with the 6th ranked long driver in the world for 2014. Thanks for the tip Daniel!
Value - 4, walking/twilight/internet are all ways to get a better than average bargain. The off the rack rate for prime weekend times with cart is average.
Food - 3, standard menu, well priced, well prepared, good views of golfing action.
Facilities - 3, older but well maintained with good practice areas for all facets of the game. Wish the practice putting green had a bigger flat section(s).
Great to play a course that is fun for all levels and where growing the game is being put into action.
Not bad
The course is fine for mid-high handicappers. It has a few hills which gives you different types of lies. Greens were quicker than expected this time out.
