this course is great fun for all ages.
this course makes for a relaxing day of GOLF. SO GO AND HAVE FUN !
Areas for improvement
The course was considerably over-watered. The sand traps were soaked. The traps don't have sand but do have heavy dirt that turns to mud when wet. Having played this course for 50 years the course is in much better overall ship than it has been in many years. Some of the tees need a little TLC to make them even better. On one tee the tee markers weren't replaced after mowing and that shouldn't happen. 16th fairway was a total mess and no mention was made when signing in on how to play the hole. Same for #12 - was a par 3 or par 4?
Great Course
My buddy and I play this course on an almost weekly basis. It's challenging and fun to play. They are also constantly working to make it better, and I look forward to the new 12th hole. It looks amazing. My only complaint is that the maintanence guys don't allow you to play through sometimes and will stay on the greens and force you to wait. Overall though it's a minor delay that keeps this course beautiful!
fun challenging course
Riverside is a beautiful and challenging course, I recommend this course to everyone that is going through the central San Joaquin Valley I play 3 or 4 times a month at this course and always can't wait to go back. staff is very friendly and accommodatingfacility is clean and well organized club house is full of good food and beverage options and well priced. Riverside golf course is a well rounded course for all levels of golfers. everyone should take sometime and go play this course you will be pleasantly surprised
Good course, slow players
My first time playing here. Got a fantastic price with a hot deal, was for a mid afternoon tee time on a hot day. (OK by me !) Staff guy was friendly & let me start a little early , which I appreciated, but ran into a wall of players just 2 holes in - a single in front of me and 3 groups ahead of him - so I joined him & had a good but slow round, until we hit #9 tee with all 3 groups on the hole, so I said thanks & adios to my partner, skipped 9, then flew around the near - empty back 9, after an excruciating long first 8.
Good points:
1) "Old school " layout in very good shape , especially considering amount of play it must get , & the hot temps. Not much water in play, you can spray it around a little & not get burned, greens in very good shape again considering hot temps & amount of play. Hats off to the Groundskeeper !
2) Back 9 more interesting/ challenging, with 3 - par 5's.
Not so good :
1) Badly could have used a good ranger to speed things up.
2) they're missing $$$ by not having a drink cart person driving around.
3) Bunkers were unequal in condition, many were rock hard , one with no rake. (I know, stay out of them & then you don't have to worry about it !)
If I had paid full price, I wouldn't have been so happy, but with the hot deal price it was great !
golf forever
Excellent bargain.great staff. Show up, got the cart key right away on to a great round on a great course.
Riverside
Was a great course had a great time extremely friendly staff and great course for the price..... See you all next Thursday
Pace of Play
In my opinion, the staff should either make longer times between tees or the marshalls need to encourage pace of play. I've been out the a hand full of times now, and people not letting faster groups through is its biggest downfall. It is the single most reason I stay away from playing there.
Golf with a View: San Joaquin River and the Sierras
Don't need to drive out-of-town for great golf, play Riverside. The pro shop staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. The course was in good shape and the weather was fabulous. The view from hole 10 of the San Joaquin River and snow dusted Sierras was something. The benign looking water hazard wasn't so bring a couple of extra balls. Challenging greens can bump up your score but I will be back.
City Course
Even though this course is older and used often the staff keep it in good shape. The hilly fairways makes it more difficult to score. The greens are in great shape. Pin locations sometimes can cause holders to three putt a lot of greens if not careful.
Single Digit Handicapper
This is a great track to play golf. It can be difficult for the starting golfers. The greens are always in great shape and the rough is always nice and thick.
Nice Muni
Greens were in great shape, fairways were trimmed with a noticible rough.Big wide fairways, bring your 3-5 woods. Greens played fast at 10am. Me and my buddie were paired up with a nice dude Shot a 95 .
A Great Value Muni
Greens and the fringe areas around the greens were in very good condition. A few spotty areas on some of the fairways. Like all Muni's nowadays where ever you go, the sand traps have a thin layer of wet sand over the dirt. With the City Am coming in a few months, I am certain they will get the fairways filled in with grass and some sand in the traps.
dormant fairways
The course is a nice lay out, and the greens were very good - decent speed and smoothness. The course has Bermuda grass fairways which are not overseeded, so you are playing off dormant grass in the fairways. Some of the holes had odd mounding in the fairways which served to penalize a good drive with odd bounces and stances. The local members I paired up with were very nice and I enjoyed the round. It's a decent value at $30.00. The range had a nice teeing area, but the landing areas were mounded and rolling so it was hard to see exactly where shots finished
Riverside
Had a great day. Friendly staff, fun round. Thanks
Fair ways
Fairways need attention, very dry! and lots of divits.
Standard Muni Track
Aside from working around a little elevation and random rolling hills, this course is pretty straight forward. Plenty of scoring holes and great beer prices.
Conditions where great.
Play was to slow even for a Football Sunday. Nobody monitoring the speed of play.
Don't play on Sunday afternoon.
We played on Sunday afternoon, after church. There was no water on the course until the 8th tee box. There was no beverage cart. Play was very slow and there was no Marshall. The course looked as though the only people working were the two or three people in the cafe and the young man in the clubhouse who was more interested in playing with his phone than taking care of patrons.
Great Muni and fun
Open fairways with some sand and water...relaxed feel, not TOO crowded...not bad for Fresno
What did you score? Did you play the back tee's?
