Hank's Swank Par Three Golf Course
Could be great but it's real bad
I grew up playing here. I loved the iron and short game work. Unfortunately the conditions are just horrible now. The greens are mostly hard packed dirt with long weeds growing out and mowed. There's no sand in the traps and it's all weeds. Basically the only use of the course is to work on iron distance because once near green there's no reason to keep score due to the conditions.
The people that run the course are very nice. The prices are steep for what you get in return. Range balls are damaged and the course is just unplayable for scoring.
A course to learn on
Although I marked do not recommend for the majority of avid golfers, there are exceptions.
I recommend this course for the following: learning the game, teaching the game, or for a quick round on an interesting layout.
Overall-1- this place holds special meaning to me and many locals, but I must, in trying to be honest, rate this course at this level when compared to all other courses on a five star scale.
Pace-4- very fast, I played entirely uninterrupted until the last green where two guys spent more than ten minutes doing ? (I timed it after a few minutes of waiting and it was ten minutes from that point) then they left both pins out. Really?
Course conditions-1- tees were mowed on a few holes but were not on others and many areas were tall grass or deeply divot damaged or bare and/or unlevel. Off green areas had spotty coverage and were also hit and miss on the mowing. Bunkers were unkempt and the one I was in was rock hard except where the squirrel burrow was located. Greens had areas that were smooth but many had patches and damage and all were very slow. It doesn't appear as if the cups get moved regularly (ever?) as the grass had completely filled in the cup opening on a few of the holes.
Staff-4- very friendly
Value-2- 12$ to walk nine is steep for the conditions
Layout-4- this course has a very interesting layout with two sets of tees(one hole had no markers) and two pins on each hole. The thick walls of trees and bunkering and mounds and undulations and green shapes are all fantastic
Amenities-2- a shack a green a range
If this course can ever improve the conditioning to at least an average level it will combine with the layout to be a fun enjoyable play, just not at this time.
Very fun course
Hanks is a very fun and easy golf course to play. Also they have the best driving range in the Fresno area
A wonderful family owned course
I've been going to Hank's for 3 or 4 years now, about 2 times a week, I believe it to be one of the best par 3's in Fresno. The staff are genuine small business owners who greet you with a smile or a firm hand shake.
