Gilroy Golf Course
About
It might not have a lot of competition, but Gilroy Golf Course dubs itself as the "Best 11-Hole Golf Course in America." Built by local farmers and businessmen in 1923, this unique 11-hole routing east of Santa Cruz features small greens and wide, tree-lined fairways set along the Uvas Valley that has changed very little since its founding. Though not a full 18, the golf course is still plenty challenging, including the 245-yard par-3 8th hole, a scenic tee shot considered to be the course's signature. Gilroy Golf Course has suitable BBQ and outing facilities for larger groups.

What's up at GGC.
Went out to play fri/3. The course was wet but that was to be expected. All of the greens were fine/dry except the 5th hole.
I do recommend GGC. The layout is good and it's a good course to go out and have a good time.
Worst course
This was the worst course ive ever played at. Course conditions were so bad, greens were terrible, missing patches of grass everywhere with caution tapes around it.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve and are working diligently to improve the course. Thank you for playing and we hope to see you again soon.

SLOW PLAY
I played yesterday with a couple of guys from San Jose had a good time the only negative was a piece of play It was awful had to wait on every hole
Ownership needs to make a little more effort
This was my home course in high school and I’ve had many memorable rounds here. However the place has become more of a circus, as bad as Gavilan down the street. No course management, groups of 5 or 6 playing in front of an older twosome, and when called on about it at the pro shop I’m asked what do you want me to do. Your job, perhaps? It’s a holiday for crying out loud. It’s not worth the price of admission.
Driving range is atrocious, not worth $6 to get only 2 balls that might have been born after the Red Sox last won a World Series. Apparently there ARE twelve shades of yellow on a golf ball with no dimples left.
Restaurant - what restaurant? Signs and website says the place opens at 6:30 or 7, yeah more like 9:30 and that’s a maybe. Word of advice, call TWO holes ahead for a bite at the turn, and if you’re lucky and they answer the phone, your food might be ready. Maybe.

Hidden Gem
It’s nestled up windy roads into a place where you’d not expect to see a golf course, but three it is,, a hidden little gem full of redwoods and cool looking tee off pics.
You won’t need driver, but hit your targets with hybrids and irons and you will be rewarded.
The fish tacos in the club house were superb and the guys in the shop were some pretty cool dudes!

Funky cool golf
I loved the Gilroy experience. It's weird, wacky and wonderful all at the same time. I can see why regular golfers can rate the course poorly because there are definitely some operational challenges running an 11-hole course. The best way to explain the routing is this. The first seven holes all play to the same fairways and greens, just with slightly different tee boxes. No. 8 and No. 17 climb up a massive hill in opposite directions, with each nine ending with a bang to the - GET THIS - same green! The ninth plays as a drivable/short par 4 from one angle and the 18th plays as a 264-yard par 3 straight downhill from another vantage point high above the green. We teed off on 18, thinking we were the only ones playing the hole, and we met a group in the fairway playing no. 9 after our cart ride down the hill. It seems like some sort of stoplight system like they use overseas would be in order. The clubhouse and bathrooms do need a serious upgrade, but otherwise, if you bring your imagination, Gilroy can be a very interesting round of golf worth your time.
Thanks Jason! I have followed your reviews and work over the years.
I appreciate the insight when describing this course. It has always caught my attention because it is unique and different (played lots of non-traditional courses with odd # holes, but never 11). I hope I can give it a try when in the area!

Amenities Need Upgrading
The toilets, deck, restaurant, pro shop and general appearance are run down, badly maintained and need upgrading and repairs.
Deck boards are rotten, toilets look like 1950’s plumbing. The Restaurant is filthy and players cannot be sure when it is open. This could be a nice golf location, but it is unclear who if anyone is responsible for maintenance, appearance or attracting golfers.
Hello Gilroy Golf Course. Allowing 5-somes creates a slow pace of play. Huge sections of your fairways are dead. The greens are in awful condition, to the point that you have to place your pins in certain positions to avoid the dead zones. I asked where I could get a bottle of water at the turn and staff looked at me like I was asking for plutonium. It was such a bad experience that I won't be coming back unless you make sweeping changes to your management and upkeep.

Answer the Phone
Multiple phone calls to get information during normal business hours were not answered. This in inexcusable and other public courses in the area, Eagle Ridge and Gavilan, answer the phone.
This unacceptable practice encourages potential players to go elsewhere.
