Hidden gem!
What a great round!
It had been a while since I had played the Woodlands at Chateau Elan, but last Friday 14JUL2023 was a hoot!
The fairways are in excellent conditions... the grounds gave us rookies a great chance to hit pure shots. The greens were in perfect condition; if anything just a bit soft, but rolling pure.
I did have a chance to hit the beach twice, but coming out of the sand was easy with well groomed and soft and sifted sand. NICE!
Pace of play was on point for a Friday afternoon. Strongly recommend you don't sleep on playing Woodlands...!
Note - They have a killer patio and bar for a 19th hole... the staff is friendly!!
Good value
Woodlands course is challenging but fair with plenty of playable holes. A few novelty holes. We got ahead of the mowers for the rough which probably only gets cut once a week, so, until we got ahead of that, rough was nasty. Could use some more water coolers or at least a drink cart on these hot summer days but overall I was satisfied with the course. I’m a member at TPC Sugarloaf, so I don’t expect the same conditions but this course exceeded what I expected. Good time of year as it’s raining a lot
Cart path to be repaired
Many places of catr path had been and yet to be repaired for the safety of riding cart.
Terrible Service
We had an afternoon tee time on July 4th and as soon as we got there it started off on the wrong foot. The guy working the pro shop desk was very rude about getting us paid and signed in. He forced us to walk back out to the front of the clubhouse to tell him the golf cart number we were in. When we told him the cart number, he told us we were wrong and to go check again. Went back out and checked again and yet the number on the cart did not change from the time we walked in the pro shop. Very bad customer service. He then proceeded to tell us that we would have beverage cart throughout the round and water coolers on the course. The beverage cart did not come through a single time in the four hour round, mind you it was over 90 degrees during the round and the course does not take you back to the clubhouse at the turn.
The course was in great shape but the groups in front of us were playing very slowly as well as no one repaired any ball marks. Our group had to repair several greens in order to make a putt. Also, the golf carts have GPS that prevents you from driving in restricted areas, but would stop the cart several times through the round when we were on the cart path.
Perfect Course with Imperfect Pace of Play
Ranger needs to be available all the time. It’s stressful to play 5 hours as a pair. Just utter disrespect from young boys. Please reinforce etiquette
One of the best!
Beautifully maintained. Excellent fairways, long holes and very well maintained greens..
Excellent Management. Very welcoming and
Marshalls
Can we have course Marshall’s make rounds even during twilight, it’s criminal how slow people are playing to not finish a round even after more daylight hours. Just disappointing
Not a great value
I don’t normally write reviews, but thought it was worth noting a few things. I live 1/2 mile from these courses, but choose to drive 20-30 min to other course that offer a better value and are just as nice. I play a lot of golf, exclusively book thru Golfnow and consistently 2 out 3 times I play here, there is something wrong. Yesterday, range was closed, round was $50 for the last tee time where you might still get 18 holes in. Other courses max out at $50-60 for even prime tee times. Chateau is charging $100+ at peak times, which is crazy. Range balls are $8-9 a bucket when the range is open and food and beer at the golf grill is not cheap $7 for a 12oz can of beer. This overpricing is consistent across the resort property as well. I don’t think I’ll be back for a while.
Adequate
Nothing special but a serviceable track. Gems were in bad shape and low areas divot ridden. Solid layout that could be excellent if they improved the condition.
Aeration Alert!
For $75 I would at least expect a notification that the greens were recently aerated. No Beverage cart on a Saturday afternoon, the course does not go by the clubhouse at any point from hole 1 to 18, only 2 of the water kegs we came across had water in them and it was pretty warm that day. Dont waste the money until the greens come back!!!!!
