Get there while you can
I have played there for years. Nice short course, great when I was just learning, fun with some experience. Course may be closed by the city soon so get there while you can. Decent practice facilities: putting green, sand and chip area and club and driver netting (you do not need to pay for practice balls). Walk is 1.7 miles for nine holes.
Extremely Bad Service
Golfed here a lot last year until the front desk guy got extremely rude with us because we used a website to book the tee time & get a break on the price. He actually yelled at my wife about it until I approached and then he toned it down. We vowed not to play there again. This summer we decided to try again via Golf Now. Again this same employee "scolded" us for using the site and told us that we ranked last to get out on the course. Even a person who just walked on would get preference over us! We asked for a cart and were told he had none even though the cart area was full of carts. We had to wait for someone to come in with a cart. (He also said we could not go out before our exact tee time even though there was NO ONE else there - nor did we ever see anyone else during the entire 9 holes.) While waiting this same guy approaches us with a plea because the city is trying to close the course down. I can see why they are losing business - it's their front desk person chasing people away with his surly attitude. He is terrible for the future of the course. If this guy is the manager, the city should be ashamed to have him represent the course.
You get what you pay for
This course is relatively inexpensive to play. Having said that, you get what you pay for. The fairways were in pretty bad shape. It was probably 50% hardpan and 50% scraggly yellow grass. Probably was better before the drought set in. The greens and a 10 yard area around the greens are still green, which is probably the best aspect of the course. The layout is pretty flat and straightforward, makes it a great course to walk.
Springtown
This course is very dry on the fairways but that's a given since we are in the middle of a huge drought! The greens are in pretty good shape though. Not the best course but given the price it's great value to play nine holes. I play here when I want to get some swings in and instead of hitting the range.
value
You can't beat this course for the money and its not that short of a course which is a nice change.
Bad customer service
My tee time was at 1230. I headed to the tee box #1 at 1215. When I got there, nobody was there. The guy in front of me at tee box #1 was at the green. Nobody seems to be arriving soon so I figure I get started. When I got to the green, the attendant was angry at me for for teeing of early. He seemed very angry and wanted to argue but I told I would rather leave and not played again. He insisted that I was wrong and deserved to be kick out.
Worst Customer Service
I book my tee time at Golfnow.com. Even though the it is cheap it is not worth playing here because the customer service is the worst I ever encountered. I would not ever played here again.
Don't Expect the Dogs to Stay Quiet
The Springtown Golf Course is a 9 holes course. The scorecard has 18 holes but the back 9 are just a repeat of the front 9. The course is flat and the fairways are wide. There are bunker(s) almost every hole.
The course is backed by not so nice houses. Don't expect the dogs to stay quiet when you tee off. The grass is yellowish and spotted with mud puddles.
Overall good
reasonable price and fairway condition.........................................................
Front desk gentleman bad for business.
Hiring people for the front desk with attitude problem is bad for business. The course is okay, but will I will never play this course again because of bad customer service.
I totally agree with you. I guy seemed to have a lot of hatred. I would never again played here again. Thank you.
Great value at an okay golf course
Took the family out for a quick round at Springtown GC. Great Golf Now Hot Deal.
Worst Employee's I've ever dealt with
I was visiting family in Pleasanton and decided to book a tee time on Golf Now for thanksgiving morning.
I booked the 8:30 am slot on Thursday the 27th for 2 people, and I arrived 15 minutes early. I walked into the pro shop, and no one was behind the counter. After a minute or so an older employee walked up behind the counter and stared at me. No words were said. no greeting.
Transcription of our conversation:
Me: "Hi, I booked the 8:30 slot for 2 people on Golf now"
He begins to look down his paper print out with tee times listed on it. Again, no words.
Me: "Oh, and we were going to try to grab a cart too."
Employee: "No you're not."
Me: "Oh?...."
Employee: "I just sent out a big group and they took all the carts."
I turned around and saw an entire cage full of carts right next to the pro shop.
Me: "Ah, gotcha. Are none of those carts operable?"
At this point the gentlemen takes off his glasses leans over the counter and says verbatim: "Did I stutter or something?"
Me: "You don't have to be rude, I asked a simple question...."
Employee: "You can leave now."
Me: "...Fine, this place is a joke anyway."
At this point the guy is chasing me out of the pro shop and follows me all the way to my car trying to carry on this confrontation in front of several families and other golfers.
I have NEVER seen such unnecessarily rude treatment at any business, let alone a golf course. I didn't even want a cart that bad, I asked a simple question and got kicked out of the course and swore at by this old guy with HORRIBLE breath and manners.
With the golf industry the way it is now days, I wouldn't expect this type of treatment by anyone. I would recommend you get rid of that guy or relegate him to maintenance as he has absolutely NO BUSINESS greeting and servicing customers of any kind.
My parents live in the area and are avid golfers, and will be sharing our experience with everyone they know.
fun
Green are difficult as they are not flat at all so your chips have to be on the money . Coarse is dry but thats expected. Had fun with my 7 year old grandson .
good course for beginner
You pay what you get. Good value when you booked from websites for hot deals.
Drought has hit hard
The drought has hit this course hard. I played with my son and my wife. When we first arrived I went to the clubhouse to check in and explained I had used Golf Now. He asked for the paper printout of my reservation which I had absent mindedly left at home. I apologized, he was clearly miffed, rolled his eyes and reluctantly looked at my smart phone for the verifying email. He did find time to brag about how his daughter was the only one to ever eagle a particular hole. We were going to play 9 holes. We showed up 40 minutes early and there was one other golfer visible. We asked if we could tee of early and were told no. We had to wait until our official tee time. Ridiculous, we were the only people there except for one other guy on the putting green. We sat around for 30 minutes chipping and putting waiting for our "official" time. During the course of play we saw 1 guy 2 holes behind us and no one else for entire 2 hours. We will not be going back.
Livermore 9
Good for playing/practicing on dry firm conditions with raised greens but not someplace you'd stay around for a beer.
Great staff
Will return and recommend to friends..............................................................
Springtown
Course is a little rough around the edges but it's better than that other 9 holes in Livermore, at least you can use more than a SW & Putter plus the price is right!
Easy to walk
The course was playing Winter conditions though the weather as more like Spring. The greens and immediate grass around the greens were in good condition, the tees, fairways and sandtraps were in fair to poor condition.
Would I play the course again, probably not. The layout was interesting with some tight driving holes which were challenging, but the fair to mainly poor conditions in the fairways made the approach shots with bad lies even in the middle of the fairways, gaps in the grass or in dirt added unnecessary difficulty. The sandtraps, which I found three or four were very thin in sand with thick clay below.
I had to comment when I saw this. I had the exact same experience when I used an iPhone app to book a tee time for $9.00 for my wife and I. I said to the guy at the front desk that I scheduled a tee time online but needed to get a cart. He said "Well, you have to understand when you order online you get low priority on carts, I'm not sure if we have any available." I looked outside and there was honestly 20+ carts sitting there. This place would probably stick around if it had people working there that cared about its customers.
