Fun Course But Needs Maintenance
We enjoy playing course and we hope that some funds can be spent to improve it. The fairways are really bare of grass and muddy. The greens aren’t bad. The course has a challenging layout which makes it fun for both my husband and me.
Beat up but affordable
Decent 9 hole course with bare spots all around but, for the price, not horrible.
Barren Fairways
It's obvious there is not much of a budget for this side of the course. Slow death on display.
Under $12, is a great value.
Great Value for a Goat Track
The fairways aren't maintained and have loads of dirt patches but the greens and tee boxes are decent. For $20 I'm in anytime I want to hack it up.
Shouldn't even be open
The fairways were all roped off and understandably so because there was more dirt than grass. Although they weren't charging much to play this course, I think they should simply shut it down because it was not enjoyable at all. I was aiming for the rough just so I could have a hit out of grass.
Great Course!
The golf course is great! My wife and I played the nine hole course and we had a great time. The pro sho guys are ok but the Marshall was super cool! He lost his wife 9 months ago and he is full of life!
Sunset 9, Into the Sunset
Riverwalk is selling off the land where The Sunset 9 (old Friars 9) currently sits. Until they close it completely, they’ve separated all play between the other 2 nines (Mission/Presidio). You can walk up and play the Sunset 9 for around $12 walking, or do GolfNow and get a deal with a cart. It’s a solid value for golf in SD. A quick and cheap nine holes, with solid design elements, but sparse fairways. Everyone can enjoy this 9, but not for long.
Patchy
Have always loved this course. Greens and tee boxes in great shape, fairways are a disaster right now
My reservation was cancelled on me!
I don't understand why my tee time was cancelled on me!
very embarrasing!!
You get what you pay for
This course is ok, tee boxes and greens are in pretty good shape, the fairways on the other hand are pretty bad. I liked playing the round and didn’t really run into any issues other than having to move my ball out of some pretty muddy areas. I can’t complain since it was only $12 w/ cart, great price for a quick 9 that’s close to home. Very straight forward layout with a couple challenging holes. It felt a lot longer than most 9 holes courses I’ve played which was nice. GPS on carts and the people in the pro shop are always awesome, this is the first time I played a round here but I’m always there for a quick bucket. If you expect a pristine course or a great challenge I would avoid this 9 hole, but for a 100+ golfer like me it’s fine.
Nice quick little 9 with good greens and great bar / food
Fairways are pretty ran down. Tee boxes aren’t all level. Greens are in great shape. Pace of play is average. Bunkers are good but drainage has been an issue. Very walkable 95% use carts.
Sunset (Friars) 9
Friars 9 is/was one of my favorite courses. It’s sad to see the shape it is in as the owners are going to develop it. Course still plays great and is a really good value. You can get some real hacks out there that can make your round miserable.
What a dump
Management obviously does not care about the course anymore. This used to be one of the better golf courses in San Diego. It is now completely neglected. Fairways are just dirt with a little grass. No mention of greens being aerated before booking. The only positive was that there was no one else on the course on a Saturday morning, so finished 9 holes in about an hour and a half. Will not be returning
