Goat Hill Park
About
Located in Oceanside, Goat Hill Park originally opened in 1952 as a nine-hole course called Center City Golf Course. It was the first golf course in San Diego County and in the 1980s was designated as protected public land that cannot be developed without a public vote. The course was redesigned in the 1990s into an 18-hole short course and soon became known by locals as "Goat Hill." The course was threatened by development in 2014 but the local community fought the plans at city hall and a new management team led by local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham assumed management of the golf course. Using volunteer corps of tradesman and citizens along with dedicated staff, they renovated and revitalized Goat Hill to its current state. The course features one par 5 on its par-65 layout and features long views from its perch on a hill. It also has a full driving range, pro shop as well as disc golf interwoven into the layout.

Weird and Wild
What’s up with this course, buddy? So weird, so wild. No goats. I was promised goats. It’s like an insane person created this course layout. Most of the time, I was saying to myself…..this is stupid.
Poor Man's Torrey!
Played at noon on a Wednesday and basiacallu had the course to ourselves. You have Ocean views and breezes too.
Looking Good these days!
I'm a little afraid to post my review cuz I'm selfish and don't want it to get busy. The course had always been a quirky little par 65 hole with a little bit of everything for everyone, with 8 par 3s, 9 par 4s and one par five which is fun for me cus I can easily
reach it in 2 which is rare for me on most regulation par 72 courses.
Anyway, the course used to be kinda run down and was about to be lost to corporate expansion and turn into commercial property but was saved by John Ashworth, some of his friends and some local pros like Xander and Charlie Hoffman.
Now, the course has new green sod all over the course which used to be a lot of dirt and just grass on the fairways but now it's looking great and the greens are in great shape to. Played with a lovely retired couple on Wednesday and shot a 5 over 70. I was truly impressed by the renovations and upgrades all around the course including range and practice facilities.
A very unique golf experience
This course is hard to explain and a bit “eclectic”
1. It is a very Short 18 hole course with mostly PAR 3 holes.
2. It is VERY difficult and takes every bit of time to play as a PGA certified length 18 Hole course.
3. The price was very good at less than $45 / person including the cart. DON’T try to walk this course due to the crazy geography/terrain.
4. Everyone here is really laid back and not formal AT ALL. Think “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”meets “Caddy Shack”.
5. It doesn’t have a full club house or full bar. Only a Hot Dog Stand and Beer/Wine.
Overall, it is a lot of fun but can become a real challenge.
It is also very close to the ocean and you get a nice coastal breeze (which keeps it comfortable, but adds to the challenge.
The Goat in Oceanside
First time playing the Goat in my 24th year in SDC/OC. Better late than never!
Very challenging course,, esp the par-3’s, of which there are eight. Tough to pick the right club for the many extreme elevation changes , esp the par-3’s.
Amazingly good pace of play on a Thur morning, esp considering all the par-3’s.
Recommend trying it at least once, but take a cart to save your knees, legs & back!
Goats Hill
Pace was slow , no marshals or cart girl.
They let 5somes play i even saw a six some
We left after nine as it was to slow. Hard course
If your a higher handicapper . Very hilly
The staff was great .
Worst course I've Ever Played
Got a Gofnow "Hot Deal" for around $50. I feel like I got ripped off. This course is horrible. I could have played Emerald Isle for half the price and it's better than this 'cow pasture"
I played the front nine, but when I saw the #10 tee all backed up - I just left a wrote it off as a learning g experience.
Interesting layout, fun course
First time played this course after hearing good things about it. The layout was interesting, lots of up-n-downs. The course is doing things improving the green and rough around. Good value for the money.
One of the most FUN golf courses in San Diego County
It seems like a lot of people reviewing Goat Hill expecting it to be a full-length tournament style course. It's really an executive course, and it's a very fun one. The narrow and very vertical layout always make it a challenge, even if it is short. It's a heck of a walk with a Sunday bag.
The fairways are better than average for a SoCal muni. Tee boxes are hard as concrete. Greens roll evenly but tends towards running slow.
Goat Hill has a very relaxed and casual vibe. Dog friendly. The 19th hole patio is always lively. Management clearly loves this course and has invested in it. Everything about this course shouts FUN, and it's a gem if you just want to hack at some balls and enjoy yourself.
