poor
i think they made a good course into a poor one.
i will never play it again...the changes that were
made ruined the course.
Great value, good challenge for average golfers
Course has been shortened and altered. Also appears a little dry. Still challenging enough creating fun experience. Pace of play excellent.
Rough is tough
Decent course to play 18 holes in 4 hours or less. Thick, overwatered rough.
This course is good for practice
There are some par 3 holes in the back 9 looks like temporary ! But me and my brother have fun!
Too many birds
This is a municipal course, so don't expect too much. The course is short and flat, with a lot of wind from the bay. The course was not in a good condition, with many brown spots and cart paths as well as fairways run down. There are hundreds of geese and ducks that means there are birds droppings all over the place. Sometimes you don't want to pick up your ball. There is also a lot of noise from the adjacent airport. Green fee adequate. But I would not play there again.
Palo Alto good value
NIce muni, a few hundred yards less than average, but great value.
It was cheap !
The course is undergoing major changes and earth moving is ongoing. There was a lot of dust in the air during play. Hence, the major discount on golfnow ($17) for a 18 hole round of golf. Call it practice. Just a little more money than a large bucket of balls.
I look forward to seeing the course after renovations.
Good for beginner
The course is very good because this golf course has wide fairway and no hazard. I don't lose my ball.
There is renovation work in work and many par three hole
Geese taking over the course
Geese and goose scat everywhere! They seem to have given up trying to control them. Course over watered in some areas which is surprising considering there's a drought. Don't know if I'll come back.
Wet fairways and Shaggy rough
Have played here dozens of times but three course conditions detracted from my enjoyment of the round:
(1) Fairways were wet at 1pm? Lead to several good drives finishing within 10 feet of the landing spot. Irrigate at night, please.
(2) Rough around some of the greens (especially #18) was very penal. When you have an inch of grass above the top of the ball, chipping is impossible so an explosion shot is required; but that is not a shot you want that close to a green (nor is if safe when fellow golfers are nearby).
(3) Bunker conditions ranged from "OK" (wet but loose sand so that a typical shot could be made) to "This is ridiculous" (meaning the ball was basically sitting on the clay base of the trap; IOW, NO SAND).
course pre renovation, still good for walking & practice
due to city plan, oringinal hole 11, 12, 17 lost to some park facility. hole 9 divided into a reachable short par4 & a long par3, hole 16 divided into a reachable par4 & a par3, hole 18 shorten to a par3. green still ok. after the game, check out the renovation plan for a new par71 18 holes course, longest tee still has 6600+ yeards, so not bad. the renovation start late spring this year, and will be finishied & opened by september next year. deinitely look to play the new designed course by then.
Great time
I played 18 holes with my brother and his friends for his birthday. The staff in the pro shop were friendly, helpful and agreeable. The course was about an average experience overall. The fairways and greens are well kept but the natural vegetation was both hazardous and unkempt. The 12th hole (I think) was under heavy construction as well. Very fun course to play and a perfect portrait of a municipal course.
Great for beginners
Good course but could be in better shape. Under renovation as well so the course was fairly short. Temporary greens were in pretty good shape but very small.
Under construction and disappointing
Having played Palo Alto several times in past years, I was disappointed to see they are doing a very gradual remodel, which appears will take years to complete. They have taken a few holes and made two holes out them, such as a short par 4 and par 3, from the original #9 par 5. It just seems unfair to be even charged a discount, playing a par 67 chopped up mess.
Nice on a holiday weekend
Pretty fast play on a holiday weekend afternoon. Greens are slow but pretty true. High winds make this course a challenge from Blue/Black tees, especially some of the long par 3's and long par 4's.
Only complaints are fairway grass not mowed recently (shaggy), bunkers inexplicably wet/packed down and lots of goose droppings, twice in the line of my putt.
Overall would recommend due to value, pace of play. Great place to work on your game.
course in in limbo due to construction
they have reroute course due to some construction changed from par 72 to par 67 greens were pretty decent fairways were pretty rough still had a fun time playing but all long par fours were into heavy wind and shorts ones were down wind kind of strange.
Under construction
When I booked the course it mentioned they were redoing a lot of the course and was construction. That was no lie. It seemed like they made the 9 holes into 18. there are 2 holes that would normally be par 5, split up to make a par 4 on front half then a par 3 on the back half. it was very weird. I am sure when the course is finished it will be better and I might come back then..but until it is finished i will not be back.
Good Value
Played on Mother's Day at 8am. Not too many people on the course. Palo Alto is a great place to work on your game. The course is flat with not too much trouble. The redesigned 18 ensures that the round doesn't last much more than 4 hours when busy and a lot less when not. I finished my round in 2 hrs. and 40 minutes. A great place to practice before my next tournament.
Enjoyed it !!
Arrived early, Tee'd off early, really enjoyed the course... and the weather, mid 80's, was just right..
Very open and forgiving course... can't wait to play again....
