Rooster is a good solid golf course. My friends and I play it every 4 to 6 weeks. We drive up from southern Marin and have to play before or around noon because of the traffic heading north. We like the course!
Two balls dropped and wrong set of Tees
Love the staff, like the course but the Marshall's should check players handicaps before allowing them to hit from the blues, much less the black tees. WAY too often we've had to wait when those players could barely hit pass the womans tees, much less NEAR or on the fairway. To add insult to injury,,,they would WAIT, (when they COULD have hit), but they would have delusions of grandeur...!
All in all, that makes the pace of play ridiculous and these golfers should be challenged! I was told if the Marshall's asked, they would be told....I paid to play!!! Well, I also PAY to play but have had to leave several times as it ruins and disrups my game.
All 8n all, I would ask a player's handicap PRIOR to allowing the wannabes to find their fame.
Playing within their handicap and course etiquette is a MUST. I play your couse couple times a week but either spread out the tee times or have the Marshall's rove a bit more, please!
A local favorite
Since I live in San Francisco--cool-to-freezing summers--I relish golf in the North Bay, where there is actual sun & heat. Rooster Run is one of my favorite tracks--friendly staff, reasonable rates, always well-maintained, adjacent to vineyards (and a little muni airport, which is no big deal), a variety of holes, challenging but not overly so, and very puttable greens. And golf weather in Sonoma in summer is warm-to-hot; in my book that translates to "perfect."
The only reason RR doesn't rate 5 stars is the tee boxes. I golfed on a Friday & they desperately needed to be cut.
Always a good time at Rooster. Course is in great condition save a few of the tee boxes need to be flattened out. Wish they would put single tee times on GolfNow as I always have to pay rack rate cause I usually golf alone.
Rooster Run 4/17/19
Course was in great shape. Was surprised to hear they were going to plug and top dress the greens later this same afternoon.
Need to do something about the food service.
Rainy Day, No Marshall ?
First time there had a great foursome. In front of us an extremely slow group and no Marshall to motivate them along. By hole number 10, they were three holes behind the group in front of them. Too bad, otherwise a great day, friendly staff, and a fun and challenging course.
rainy season course
Course was very playable given how much rain the area has received. A few very wet spots but balls bounced and rolled on many fairways. Greens were soft but were in great shape. No water was found in any cups.
The course is in excellent condition. Traps are in a playable condition. ( finally). 4hr 15 minute round. Overall best condition I have seen the course in a long time. Thanks for that. It makes for a great time.
Friendly bogey golfer course
Shot an 81 there. I’m usually a 90-100. It’s fairly open. Prices are high for food, but everything else was great!
Very nice course
Excellent course, very friendly staff and had a great time.
Pace of Play
Love Rooster Run but the pace of play is pretty much always slow and I believe it's because the Marshall's are told to send players off every 8 minutes in lieu of the 12 minute requirement. I feel if they changed that, back to 12 minutes between players ~ it would be a delight for everyone.
Golf at Rooster Run
The groundskeepers kept the course in excellent condition and will recommend the course. I wished they had a restaurant that served breakfast or lunch so we could hang out before of after the game!
Boring and slow
I played this course for the first time this morning. It was boring and slow. Despite being pressured to tee it off from an extra 400 yards further back than I usually do by the group we were paired with, I ended up shooting well.
But I didn't have fun. And it was not a fast round. The people I played with treated every putt like it was to win the US open, and squabbled with each other constantly. The marshall came out to hang out with these guys (regulars, I guess) but never said a word about pace even when there were 3 clear holes in front of us on 16 tee on .a Saturday morning.
The course is your classic, built in the 90s "stretches to 7000 yards" wasteland of 60 bunkers and 10 ponds that don't affect good players but give crappy ones fits.
Won't go back.
