Good pace of play
Pace of play was good I was played solo and was given the opportunity to play through but didn’t need to. Course layout is good, greens are nice right now good speed on them. Course could use a little bit of maintenance on certain holes. All in all course is in good shape
Great course with amazing views
If you are looking to improve your game this course is for you. The greens were not perfect, but that was mostly due to the recent rain. They are redoing some of the tee boxes, it is a very well maintained course. Very clean restrooms. The views throughout the entire course are breathe taking. In my opinion it's the best course in the southern centeal valley..
River Island was fine
My issue was That River island golf course is not affiliated with Golf now I need longer so I had to pay full price and they did not honor the price that Golf now has booked me
Rained Out
Just our luck we got rained out and since it was a Golf Now Hot Deal they only way for me to cancel and get a refund is if the course closed. Since they stayed open we played what we could 10 holes and headed out right as it started pouring. We'll be back.!!!
Staff Acts Like It’s a Country Club
I understand that most golf courses don’t allow jeans. Most public courses & country clubs explicitly state that in their posted rules. But this is the first time in my 15 years of playing that I’ve ever had a course enforce it. In fact, I’ve been to two local (actual) country clubs within the past couple of weeks who allowed jeans.
Anyway, my buddy showed up with jeans; they said he had to wear their loaner pants (probably infested w/ Covid) or buy some from the pro shop. You might think because it’s January & it was raining at the time, they must have had a good selection of golf pants & rain chompers, but no. Only shorts for sale. So my buddy spent $50 on shorts & we set off.
We got thru 3 holes before we were both drenched & freezing cold. So we called it a day & I asked for a rain check. After all, that’s what rain checks are for. BUt nO: No RaIN ChECKs ALLoWeD!
I probably won’t ever visit again. Not worth the drive.
Fun Layout & Great Staff
I was in the area again and payed River Island CC mainly because the staff was so great the last time I was here, I wanted to give them the business. Staff was again super friendly and helpful. Due to other commitments I wasn’t sure if I was going to have time to play a full 18 but thankfully all groups (about 4-5) let me play through right away so I zipped around the course in about 2 ¼ hours.
I’m starting to really like the layout of this track. Mainly flat with some minor rolling hills but the course crosses the flowing river/creek a handful of times. There are also a few ponds on the course but they really don’t come into play. At least they didn’t today when I was hitting it decently. The course has a wide variety of holes with dog legs left and right plus sloping fairways on the straight holes. There are also a few straight forward grip it and rip holes with wide landing areas.
Conditions are ok. Nothing special by any means but playable. Greens seemed to be in a bit better shape than the last time I played. Greens were in that nice happy medium range as far as having some undulations to make it a challenge but nothing ridiculous. Greens rolled on a medium-slow pace. They probably weren’t too bad but I just finished playing two days on fast greens so they seemed slow.
airways were part dormant, part dead but playable throughout. Tee boxes weren’t too bad. Easy enough to get a tee in the ground and the par 3’s had enough coverage to find a good hitting surface. You had to look for it, but the grass was there in between all the divots.
I managed to avoid the bunkers all day. I wanted to walk, not only for the exercise as it was perfect weather, but for time, I opted to take the cart which are normal basic carts.
Again, this course is off the radar and map by all definitions, but with the excellent customer service and fun layout, if you find yourself in the area. Definitely play it!
Beautiful Course
Always love playing River Island. Very tough course right now. Fairways and Greens are really hard and balls roll roll roll! But nowhere more pretty to play,.
great!
the weather was not the best but I a 82 year old man shot in the 80s as usual.
River Island Review
The course was nice, the pace of play was slow but not bad. The service in the clubhouse was welcoming and helpful. Overall, it was a good experience.
.great course
The course was great overall and the staff is amazing and friendly.
river Island
Course was slow because of corvid and extremely smoky because of the near fires. Greens were recently punched which I understand but was not made aware of on Golf Now. Always a changeling course but was made a little more difficult with the smoke. Staff was very friendly as usual and under normal circumstances would highly recommend.
