Best value
Takes prior notification to get onto the base. A pass can be arranged, but that takes 3-4 weeks, but worth it if you are going to play this course more than once.
Hole layouts very good. Grass fairways are average with some thin spots. Greens are in great condition and probably were 10 at best.
Good values in the pro shop for clubs.
Navy Course...what else?
Not a user friendly course, first the check in was not expected, like having the Lady at the check in was sour grapes who DID NOT help us, instead we had to call the club house and get us a sponsor sent over to get us in, when we all went back for the proper paper work the guard at the gate said she ...only gave us one pass instead of 2 so the sponsor had to be found and talk with the guard, what a hassel.
The course was a bit LOW on maintainance, could not play the ball down on many of the fairways (lots of bare spots)..
There were no signs telling us where the next hole was and quite an adventure to find it, no help was to be found..
The price was good, I guess you get what you pay for!
Hard Greens
The course I'm sure will mature into very good condition as weather gets better. "Spotty" brown in fairways right now though and the greens are REALLY HARD, as in not soft! They can be VERY slow and DO NOT hold either, reads are easy but put some "oomph" into your putts. Not very undulating, actually pretty much flat for the most part.
I suggest that you sign up for the Military Pass if you live up that way and want to play it again as it will make it pretty much "painless" entry to drive through the gate right to the clubhouse for your future rounds. The cost is BEYOND reasonable for what you get, (I paid $20) and if you time your tee time right during the week, the dude I was with said he got through a round in right around 2hrs! ...which is pretty darn good!
The restaurant (19th hole) is GREAT TOO, there's also a bar and MANY big screen t.v.'s. The pro shop is very well stocked and has EVERYTHING that you may need from SUPER FRIENDLY staff.
You can also "gas up" your car at the station that's on base for a helluva' lot less than what us "civies" get stuck with! I would MOST DEFINITELY play this course again and again, it's just a drag that I live so far away from it....ugh!
It was cold, but really enjoyed the course
We played at 10 a.m. on 2/8, via GolfNow's Hot Deals. Rain was predicted, never occurred, but it was cold, and we came prepared. Getting into the base was a little bit of a hassle, but since 9/11, you can't complain-it took 20-25 minutes to get registered and to the Pro Shop once we got to the front gate, so plan on an extra 30 minutes minimum before your tee time to get to the Pro Shop.
The course was great-from the tee boxes to the greens-these guys know how to maintain a course, which is NOT a pushover run by any means. We'll be back when it warms up.
Inside Navy Base, so need pass to get there
because it is located inside military base, course has private
atmosphere. distance is short but tree and water making challenging. good hamburger after 9 holes.
Some of the best greens in the county!
Have been golfing here for 3 years. Always satisfied with the course & staff. But will probably not be back for a while due to difficulty getting my golf pass renewed...
It's too bad, I know dozens of people who feel the same way.
I enjly pllaying the course
Golf Now has saved me and my friends money, also has enabled us to play some course we might not have been able to.
Great greeens and friendly staff.
Challenging but not extremely difficult; it is a fun course to play. The course is well maintained and the greens are great. The staff is friendly, attentive and respectful. Usually not to crowded so the pace of play is fine..
Unpleasant!
When we arrived at the gate to this Seabee base, we were told that we had to obtain a pass to get on the base. We went into the office and were asked if we planned to play there for the rest of the year. My response was "I don't know yet". The curt reply came back that "We don't give one day passes". I said "OK, I will play here the rest of the year". Her response was "you already told me your weren't." So a supervisor came out and gave us a pile of paperwork to fill out. It is now 15 minutes from our tee time, so we bailed on these surly government employees. Lat I heard taxpayers like me paid their salaries. As far as this place goes..go missed approach!
not worth it
it takes an act of congress to get access to enter the base and when u do its only good for 30 days what a mess it's too bad they make it so difficult to get on the base and play golf
This is a fun course, with some good golf holes and no crowds.
This is a fun course, well maintained and not many people on the golf course. I was there after the rains (so I wasn't expecting fast greens) the greens were very receptive and very slow....If they get those greens rolling about 10 on the stimp, I will definitely be back. Its a little hassle to get through the gates but only took about 15 minutes. Overall a good experience.
