Rancho Las Palmas
Rode the Blacks on all three 9's with Tim, absolutely delightful guy to get matched up with. We played in slightly less than 5H total, paying less than $25 through tee off. The weather was close to 100, sunny and fairly calm.
I last played here approximately 30 years ago. They lengthened all three 9's by adding Black tees 6-8 years ago. On many holes, it is only 5-10 yards difference in Black/Blue. However, it is extreme on a few holes. #3 West plays 84 yards longer from the Blacks and is a 645 yard par 5. #2 South is a par 4 that plays 86 yards longer and is 446 from the Blacks.
West & South are par 35, North is par 36, so it would be a par 70 or 71 depending on which 9's you play.
Overall, these are 27 fun holes of golf. I liked the North 9 the best, more straight forward. Probably liked the West 9 the least, a few quirky holes they squeezed into a limited area. Ted Robinson Jr. design from 1977. As you would expect, there are plenty of water features that you have to play over, mostly on approach shots. A few grip/rip it holes, but most holes have OB down at least one side if not both. The fairways are not that narrow, but if you miss the fairway by more than a few yards you are in trouble on many holes.
The tees were okay, mostly lush with some divot challenges on the shorter holes. Several were crowned and could use leveling.
The fairways were lush and nice to play from.
The rough was lush and could be penal. Just deep enough that the ball often sat down. When it did, it could sometimes be a challenge to find you ball.
The sand traps were decently maintained with thick, fine grain sand.
The greens had a light top dressing that did not affect play. They were the star of the course, Quick, firm and smooth. Loved the greens!
No drink cart, but there was an operational snack stand at the turn. Customer service from the pro shop & starter were excellent, they had me out & matched up before my tee time. Grass range looked decent. I was worried when I saw the putting green, the greens on the course were MUCH better than the putting green.
Fun course(s) in nice shape. Recommended.
Shaggy
Really rugged tee boxes, 1 hole was closed, with no construction going on, Rental clubs were $70 USD and no cart girl...
Great round
Very nice facility. Course is in good shape. The North 9 still has some storm damage, but overall everything was good.
Good Course
Good golf course, and great bargain. Would play again if staying longer.
Fun day
For the money good course montage because of wash out where it used to be but they put some nets up to warm up
Rancho Las Palmas
Even though no range because of it being washed out they accommodated with some hitting nets to warm up it was a fun day
Good Day
Two of us had an early morning tee time and went as a group of two, done the round in 3hrs. Other than no driving range and the first hole, par 5 still unplayable due to wet conditions the course is in good shape. We played the north and south tracks.
Bad conditions.
Will not play there again. It should not have been open. Conditions were awful. They changed two par fours to short par threes because the course was in such bad shape.
North Course is in horrible condition.
Don't play this 9 holes ! Still recovering from wash issues!
A par 5 was a par 3. The north course was in terrible condition. I know there has been a great deal of rain but when the conditions are that bad we should receive a discount or at least be told before hand.
storm damage
due to prior flooding, hole 1 on north course is now a par 3 teeing off from the river bed. Similarlly, 14-16, which cross the river, are in poor shape in that area. West course is down to 6 holes, members only.
Bad Conditions
This course is in need of a drastic makeover. Rough is long, cut grass laying all around greens and rough making short game shots difficult. No direction being given to North 1 tee box which is down in the wash rather than up top. Now playing as par 3 rather than par 5. Wash areas on north almost unplayable as there is little to no grass.
Golf staff not very attentive to patrons. Some are busy at times practicing on the practice green. Starting area is very caotic with carts park everywhere blocking movement to tee boxes. No need for bag drop off as no one picks up your clubs.
Course is in dire need for attention. Areas of rough at various heights. No trimming around trees or sand traps.
Golfers also should be told that there are no longer 27 holes available and that the open 18 are not truly 18 holes.
