Must Play
The construction is the only thing I could have done without. Amazing layout
Outstanding
An outstanding golf venue in an area of superb golf courses!!
Very forgiving while being extremely challenging!!
Highly recommended!!
Great
Piper is a fun course. Fantastic conditions, great amenities, everything you'd come to expect from Lakewood National. My favorite track is still the Commander course, but Piper is a great alternative when Commander is under renovations. Can't miss with either option though.
Great Track
This layout is challenging and long even from the 3rd box. On a windy day it could be challenging from the Friendly tees!
Breezy Golf
The wind is always a factor on this course due to the layout and constant continued construction! The greens are hard and tough to play for ever getting a one putt. Stay away from fairway sides that can easily bounce in the waters due to fairways slanting. Entertaining to play as well as challenging!! Fun times over and over no matter how often one plays the course!!
Beautiful Track
Fun experience from the range to the 18th green. Great staff and facilities. A bit slow but the course is really fun. Huge fairways that are hard to miss but placement is crucial. Greens are a bit goofy but true.
Amazing
Immaculate course conditions, great layout, and friendly staff. Fast fast greens! Amazing practice facility.
Great golf
Greens a 12 bring your long game great shape great value on hot deals
New course 3 weeks
This course is 3 weeks old it’s in great condition. The only issue is construction all around golf course. It Will eventually be built out but right now it can make for distractions
Great Course
This was a great golf course and the staff was very friendly. Nice layout, pristine conditions, and fast greens make for a great golf day.
Piper is tough
Played for the first time today. Greens were at 12 and that is a guarantee slow round this time off year with the snowbird crowd. Course maybe be tougher than the commander course . Hit some good drives that were in trouble because of all the mounding all over the course. The course is dry and fast right now but it’s playing very narrow due to all the roll out. Very slow today but this is a stern test of golf for a low handicap so bad golfers should stay away. But they won’t. Staff and practice area are top notch.
In time it will become a top course in the area
Since the course has only been open a few weeks there aren’t any real bathrooms on the course only portapotties. Pace was fairly slow but the a**hole member in our group hit a few balls into the group in front of us. That upset them off and made them play slower. But the course was very long even from the middle tees.
New Course, Great Layout
Piper is the second course in the Lakewood National property area. It has the Arnold Palmer design trademarks (short par 4s), but has really embraced the two distinct features. First, drastic undulating fairways. Second, much narrower approaches to smaller greens. Overall, the course is in great shape for a course opening in the fall. The rough is is fair and in good shape. Some of the signature holes are a massive par 5 number 2, a picturesque short downhill par 3 at #4 with sand bunkers everywhere. Number 7 is a dog leg right with strategic bunkers in the fairway and a tiny green that is a risk takers dream. Number 10 par 5 is an amazingly sloping fairway that sends you to the right side and makes you play along the water that follows you along the hole. You then arrive at a very small green that is less than 10 yards wide with sloping sides. Numbers 16-18 are just beautiful with conservation areas guarding the left sides with water to give you fits if you go to far right. Overall, a Palmer masterpiece that now makes the Lakewood National community a destination resort. I highly recommend playing both courses as they are professional quality. The web.com tour has recognized the initial Commander layout as a regular stop and it may not be long for Piper to join in the national recognition.
Nice Course but routed poorly.
Piper just opened recently and is the sister to the wonderful Commander Course (The last course Arnie was hands on in designing) at Lakewood National. When I first drove around the course prior to opening I thought I would love it even more than Commander. After playing it a few times I don’t.
Course condition is great, but this course is a little too tricked up for my liking. The first green may be the hardest green u will ever play. It has five different tiers and three putts r almost a guarantee. The second hole is just a very long par five with third shot over water. The third hole is the #1 HCP. By the time u r on the 4th tee u wonder why u r being punished for playing golf!!! And u r prolly 5-10 mins behind pace.
Now u can play some regular golf to elevated greens with few flat areas. The 9th and 18th holes r short par 4s and pretty blah for finishing holes. My hope is they will swap the nines so u can prepare for the tough 1-3 holes (10-12 if they swap).
The greens r hard and fast but that is partly due to the newness. They will soften over time.
I am not complaining as my scores have gotten progressive lower the more I play it. I personally think high HCP members will not enjoy this course as much as Commander. Definitely give it try and make up ur own mind. It’s NOT BORING. The first time u play it, decide on ur tees and then play up one set. It plays longer than the card
You think you know FAST??
Excellent course in all aspects! But as a a 17-handicapper, the greens were toooooo fast for my game (the sign outside the pro shop said they were 12 on the Stimpmeter; the Majors are rated between 13-15!). Shots I hit on target would roll off or to the back of the green. Despite the fact I hit 12 of 14 fairways, I lost too many strokes on or around the greens.
