10th tee Photo submitted by rsluther on 02/18/2013
Had the course to ourselves!
While we endured a bit of rain (.03" per hour) and some coldness, we had the benefit of having the course to ourselves. Finished the round in 3.5 hours never waiting on anyone. Great day for golf on an excellent public golf course.
Beginner not so friendly
Amazing course and condition of it was great. I would just recommend a different course for beginners, since I wasn't able to keep up with the pace of other players. Overall though, would recommend it to any average player.
Pure, Incredible Value
Conditions: 9/10 pure, well maintained
Layout: Fun, a bit challenging but can be enjoyed by any skill level. A lot of dog leg lefts
Greens: fast, much faster than they appear, in excellent shape. Massive greens will set you up for a difficult 2-putt
Value: Amazing, played for $36 with cart
Would i play again? Yes, I’ll be back
Pure
First time playing this course this morning, and everything was pure. The tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens, everything was pure! The greens were massive and challenging, definitely was worth the money! Will be back soon.
Great time
I've played Rancho Solano more then a dozen times in the last couple of year's.
The course has never disappointed me. Always in great shape and well maintained.
Pace of play and tee boxes.
Course was solid, fairways were nice , and greens were fast. BUT…the pace of play was horrible. Two marshals knew the group in front of us were playing slow and let them continue to do so. It was 100 degrees out when we finished our 5 hour round. It’s unacceptable to let people play that slow in heat like that. The marshals themselves were nice, but nice wasn’t helping our cause. Can we move past the idea that it’s fine for recreational golfers to take 2.5 hrs for 9 holes and 5 hrs for 18. If you’re not pro you should only be taking 4 hours to complete your round…and that’s max. Now, on to the tee boxes. There’s was a good amount of grass, that wasn’t the problem. Whoever placed the markers had you hitting drives on a pretty solid upslope on the 1st tee, then on a few other holes we were hitting on an upslope or down slope. We noticed there was several places to move the markers that were flat with no healing necessary. Not the best placement by someone. Other than that, I got paired with a great group and we had a good time.
This course is beautiful
Great course, twilight time is awesome for evenings after work, gets a bit windy but course is kept immaculate
Great golf course
This is one of the best golf courses in the Napa Valley area. The layout and conditions are excellent. Also the green fee is very reasonable.
Perfect Day of Golf in the Rain
It had rained heavily that morning and though out the night before. My son and I were nearly the only players at the course and were warmly welcomed by the Proshop's manager. How friendly is the staff? I'll tell you,...after checking in and mistakenly heading out to the 1st tee in an unmarked Marshall's cart (!!! that's right!!!), they saw us go and let us play on without saying a word... VERY, VERY friendly.
Course was wet, but was draining well. Greens, even though wet, rolled smoothly and true (very surprisingly). Sand in traps played well with no rocks.
At the turn we stopped for lunch at the diner and had two 'home made' sandwiches and some draft beer. Perfect for a couple of cold and wet golfers!
Marshall checked-in on us during back nine (which was nice to see even in these terrible conditions).
Absolutely the most fun and memorable round of golf played all year. This course goes on my top five in the entire SF bay area.
Definitely playing again
It was my first time playing at Rancho Solano and everything I heard about the course is true. It's now one of my favorites, just really liked the atmosphere, layout, Conditions, location, from the first employee I met to the Marshall everyone was professional but polite. The greens are incredible, very fast and hard to read especially playing it the 1st time.
Rancho 12/22
The course, considering the previous several days of rain, was in excellent condition. There were several wet spots, but that was expected. Greens held the ball very well and were fast.
Fast greens
Cart path only due to rain day earlier and greens were faster than usual, 40+ putts!
