The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

Beautiful conditions

Private course available through golfnow in great condition. Greens running around 10 on the stimp. Fairways were about 8 iof10 (on a scale where Pebble Beach is 10 of 10). Fun and challenging course design, worth playing again.

Great value for an out of the way course

Played a round here with a relative. This course seems like it is semi-private. It seems like they only offer a few tee times to the public each day and the rest is for members. I could be mistaken, but that was my impression.

The course is interesting, with some elevation changes in stretches.

It was a hot day, but that's ok. Being that it was a hot day, I was a little disappointed that there was not a beverage cart on the course. We could have used a few cold beverages.

The pace of play was excellent. A single walker jumped in ahead of us while we were warming up on the range and putting green. We tee'd off as they were on the green. We had to wait on hole 2, and then I think they made a wrong turn and played hole 5 instead of 3, so we were able to jump ahead. After that, we never saw anyone the rest of the day. I think we played in 3.5 hours.

The course was in good condition, not great, but good. There were a few weird quirks, like on the 1st and 2nd hole there was a temporary water pipe setup. Very strange. There were some dry rough patches, but the greens were excellent and felt very fast. The tee boxes were above average, and the fairways were maybe a little above average. Golf at a decent course anymore is going to be $75 or more, so I felt the price was reasonable, and represented good value.

I have no complaints, and provided the course was in the same condition and the price was similar, I would continue to play here.

I think this offers a change from other courses in the area like Bayonet and Black Horse, which have been suffering from water restrictions in the area.

The best greens available. Challenging elevation changes. The tee boxes can be tricky, print a course before you begin.

Nice place to play

The staff are very friendly. The course layout is nice. There are some tee boxes that are close to the green that you just finished. If the course is full, this will slow the pace of play.
The fairways are wide, not too much bunkering, and the greens are very consistent.
Good value.

Fun and friendly

We played behind a club tournament, so the pace was slow. If things were different, you would definitely play there as often as possible. Once you learn the layout, your pace and enjoyment will go to five stars.
The staff was very friendly. This is a Club that allows some public access.
Well maintained course with beautiful greens. The tee boxes are a little close to the green you just finished..
Restrooms on the course are nice. I will play there again the first chance I have.
