Rude greeting
I walked in to check in and gentleman at counter gave me rude behaviour instantly about my friend who had all ready checked in because of him wearing jeans. He invited me to this course as it is his home course. Didnt know I was responsible to dress my friends. Then other two checked in and he did same thing. So we spent $200+ for golf, $ for cart girl, $ at turn and in restaurant after. Funny how courses need business but would let someone treat guests that way. What a joke!
Great value!
Nice layout. They have been working on improving the bunkers and greens and it has made a positive difference. The course gets a lot of play and the greens can be a bit bumpy later in the day, but no more so than other public courses in Southern California. I like that the course is challenging but fair. Long enough for big hitters, but reasonable for the short hitters. Club selection is key.
Love the clubhouse environment. The drinks are solid, food is what you expect from a place like this, and the service is with a smile.
Overall a good course.
This course is a very good value if you use the app 'Golf Now' One of the greens was under construction so they set up a temporary one but other than that the course was a lot of fun. The only thing I would change is for them to do more work on the greens. They we're pretty slow compared to most other courses.
Awesome Experience
This course is one of the most fun I have played in a very long time. Greens are excellent and the bar is the best in So Cal. My group and I really look forward to playing SJH more often, for the money it is by the best value in the area.
Unique Holes
This course is visually appealing with the first hole having a nice waterfall to kick off the round. Most of the fairways are pretty wide, and were nicely maintained, which is good for the average golfer who is not super consistent off the tee. The greens were not very difficult to read but they were a bit slow compared to the other courses in the area that I've played recently. The pace of play was excellent. I teed off in a threesome at 12:08PM and we finished the round at 4:30PM which is pretty quick for a busy weekend afternoon. The greens fees were relatively inexpensive which makes this course a great option for avid golfers in the Southern Orange County area.
It has been my home coirse for 25 years excellent
Great clubhouse. Course having substantial work done but playable
Good course
Usually good pace but this time it was snail slow.
Being part of the staff doesn't excuse rudeness
We booked the time unaware of cartpath only which was a bummer but teed off as a foursome with a twosome in front and two twosomes behind us. We had about almost a hole between us and the group behind us when a younger player walked over to us stating she works at the proshop and we needed to pick it up. I looked at the pace and we were 10 minutes ahead of pace. I told her it's a twosome ahead of us and they're only about a half a hole ahead. We were moving just fine for being inbetween a bunch of twosomes. Fast forward to a few holes later...She and her partner skip the twosome behind us and are maybe a half a hole behind us. We make the turn and tee off, finish 10 then all of a sudden we see her and her partner driving through the fairway (cart path only) and skipping us. I understand a twosome is gonna move faster than a foursome but have some respect for others around you and just ask if you can play through. Again we were more than ahead of pace. Finished in 4:05. Staff playing or not should definitely not being acting like they own the place and doing as they wish.
San Juan Hills
Greens good shape. Well sloped fast downhill speed
Fairways have some steep hills with doglegs and green elevated a few are blind and well protected by traps.. grasses is typical municipal grade type. Staff helpful restaurant has good food.
Fun Track
Cool track if you're looking for a bang for your buck around OC. Was raining when we played so had the course to ourselves practically. Got a reduced green fee b/c of the rainy conditions. Will play it again.
A fun course
First time playing course. A short tract w/ a few hilly holes & a couple of funky unconventional fairways. Overall it was fun & I would play it again. My partners are very long hitters & from the blues they easily hit most greens in regulation. Try it, you will like it!
Pace of play needs to change.
Way too slow on the pace of play. We are talking a 5 hour plus round. They need to tell people that if you a beginner take longer gimmes and keep the pace. This isn't a small par 3 if you aren't a decent player or think you are golfing Pebble Beach and spend 5 minutes lining up each shot please choose a different course.
Challenging, Fun, Good Times
I was paired with a threesome, and the four of us had a good time, and the pace of play was enjoyable. Tee time was 12:08pm on a Wednesday. I think we waited to tee off twice. We had a threesome behind us that caught us 2-3 times. I played here once before at a charity scramble tournament, so this was my first time playing here and keeping my own score. The greens were recently punched, but other than that, the course was in good shape, and the temporary green on hole 1 could've been a little tougher to find. Staff was helpful, and if you need to use the range plan an extra 15 minutes for traveling in the cart to the range. I recommend this course.
Great Course for the price
1st time playing this course:
Cons: Took 5 1/2 hours to play. Booked on golfnow, show up and was told 15 min behind. It was more like 40 min. Not happy with the customer service from either the bartender nor the pro shop.
The starter was honest and energetic. Groups we're stacked up by at least 2-3 for most of the round. Suggestion to the course: have 2 snack carts drive around since the course is so spread out between the homes. Soggy spots around some bunkers and greens. Made it difficult to get a good lie.
Pros: course was in beautiful condition for being in a drought. As a first timer here, I was paired with guys who knew the course so ended shooting 82 from the blue tees. Beautiful views of the mountains and valleys. Elevated tees were spectacular. GPS on the carts were dead accurate. Stuck many close shots. Greens were not too difficult to read. However they were fairly speedy if your not careful. Pins were in easy locations.
Would definitely recommend this course.
Excellent for the price
Short course but challenging. Awesome greens. Friendly staff. Average 4 1/2 - 5 he rounds on the weekends but fast during the week.
