Pace of play
If there are going to be marshals on the course they need to do their job. We played behind a 2 some that would not let us go through and it was just 2 of us and we caught them on hole 6 and had to follow the rest of the 18. All in all we had 3 other groups catch us on the back nine with this pace. My only complaint about this course. Love playing it and the layout is great with some good challenges. Just need to make the marshals do their part.
Great day! Great greens!
This was my first time playing Tulare. LOVED the layout. Greens were fast and true, some of the best I've played outside the desert. Aprons and area around the greens were great. Fairways were hard and dry, but it is the middle of winter. Great breakfast and friendly staff. Will definitely be back and absolutely worth the drive from Bakersfield.
Need a calendar of events on website
Golfed here cause the normal course I golf at (River Island in Porterville) didnt have any early tee times. Played for $20 twilight so that was a good deal I thought. Had to tee off on the back 9 cause there was a tournament going on. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Wish they had a calendar of events or something on their website so I know when there is a tournament going on and I can plan my tee time accordingly. Most of the fairways were dead from it being Bermuda grass, which dies in winter, but the greens were fine.
Day of Relaxing
Been playing the course for a couple months now and im really liking the challenge, especially the greens.
Nice course and I'll be playing Golf there more often.
Course owner
Course new owner is doing a great job with new maintenance of the course. Tree trimming and having the greens rolled are making this place better play and more challenging. Can’t wit til spring to see how this course will look. P.S please keep the greens the pace they are now. True roll and great speed.
Course has Improved Over the years
It has been several years since I have played this course and I have to say that the conditions have greatly improved. Given that I played it in the Winter the fairways and rough is all dead, but nevertheless it still feels maintained. Greens and bunkers in good shape. Looking forward to the scheduled clubhouse remodel next year.
Changes
The new crew has been working hard.
The greens have made a miraculous turnaround in the short time the new owners have had the course. Three months ago they were terrible. Now they are mostly smooth quick and semi firm. There are a few areas where they have not recovered, but by spring they should be on point. The bunkers have been worked (yay!) and are very playable. Speaking of work, the evidence is everywhere and we saw more grounds crew out and active than any of us could recall. Trees and bushes all over the course have been trimmed and or removed. (won't miss the oleanders)
The course is dormant except the green complexes. Everything has been mown to playable height and I look forward to spring to see just how good this place may become when it is green.
On the up and up
Course was tattered until new ownership this year. Course is looking awesome and will only get better as new owners pour money into the renovations. Can't wait to see the potential
New management
Seems like golf is back on the radar at Tulare. Previous management seemed not to care much about the course or amount of play. Course seemed to be coming along and would like to see more done in the future to increase the play and conditions and add discounts to keep people returning.
Great Course for the price
This course has a ton of potential. Over the last keep weeks the course has started looking a lot better. Low handicap player would be disappointed in the greens however newer golfers and general public will love this course.
golf course
the course was in pretty good shape meaning the fairways were the tee boxes were good but the greens 1 their were punched for make greens better but some of the greens looked like some kind of moss infection some parts of the green and 1first cut of greens were bald-no grass
Greens are in need. New ownership, Clubhouse friendliness needs review.
Sept 2017
I recommend with a caveat about the greens,
Greens 1 and 4 are complete disasters and have some sort of fungus or virus IDK. Other greens were between very good to some bad spots to bad areas.
Fairways were long and slow but had very good coverage.
Tees were lush but many had not been mown and were too long.
Rough was thick with areas that had not been mown.
Sand was thin but consistent in the bunkers I was in and/or noticed.
Fun layout, fast pace, friendly staff, good price. I hope they get a handle on their greens.
August 2016
Just a quick and happy update.
The course has come back to mostly normal conditions.
There are still browned out edges, but that is due to water conservation. The rest of the course is green and playable.
The greens have come back almost completely from whatever had eaten/destroyed them. There are still several greens where you can see the damage, but I would estimate that 2/3rds of them are completely healed and the few that weren't are spotty instead of completely damaged.
Update
Played a charity tournament, thank goodness it was not a normal round. This is a course we typically go to several times a year. The layout is decent, the price is usually good for the return and the crowds are normally small.
I will keep this short as I don't want to bash(excessively) a course I like. The fairways were un-mown and were more like 1-3" rough. Four of the, I believe six, water hazards were empty and dozed. (the huge amount of balls visible was amazing and surprising that they hadn't been collected.) Many of the greens were horrendous. Huge areas of fungi? and dead spots and damage and invasive grass. They are obviously struggling mightily with the conditioning, shame because it is fun to play.
When they get the course back in shape I say go have a look, but for now...
I do not recommend this course at this time.
Fun if/when in good condition
This is a solid design that can offer some challenge from the back tees, but has plenty of room to accommodate all levels from the correct tees. There is a good variety of holes and it is a good course to play when you are looking for something away from home.
Typically this course is in average shape. Yesterday it was in fair to poor shape, with dried out tees/fairways and patchy greens (bumpy, ball marked, bare spots, multiple grasses growing in, and one with GUR on most of the green).
The drought is most likely the culprit for much of the poor conditions, but it is obvious that there is also a lot of play by people with a lack of knowledge about how to help maintain the course (i.e. tournaments with non-regular golfers). I am sure the locals curse this fact as the course is better than the way people treat it currently.
I recommend playing here if you are looking for something new and/or the course is back to normal conditions.
I am very pleased with the course.
The course has some very challenging holes with sand traps, water and trees in play. The club house great breakfasts and lunch.
