A little deferred maintenance, the sign got hot and buckled so you can't use the ball washer Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Most of the greens are kidney shaped, designed perpendicular to the fairway, so you don't want to go long, but plenty of run left/right Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Castle Oaks
First time playing this track. I really liked the golf course and it’s a solid layout. Greens were rolling nicely. But, the fairways hadn’t been mowed in a while and were almost as long as the rough on other courses. No roll whatsoever. And the fairway rough and green side rough were a joke. We lost several balls within yards of the fairways and greens. Not good.
The course is well layed out
Great day at Castle Oaks. Course was in great shape for this time of the year. Rough was a little thick, but I'm sure it was not mowed due to the recent weather.
Unplayable
N9 rain past 3 days but cart party only took 5 hours and grass not mowed in week so fairway and rough were deep hard to find ball should have been reduced green fee
Playable
Compared to many courses that have been affected by all the bad weather Castle Oaks is very playable. Swampy in some parts, sand traps washed out, but still playable. Cart path only & I still got around under 4 hours. They have done a great job despite all the weather challenges.
Love this course , challenging without being overwhelming & you always meet someone interesting if paired up!
Great course
Was a little soggy and slight frost delay but the course was very playable and the greens were pretty good. Kitchen was closed for some remodeling.
Post Rain
After 3 dry days the course was still wet on few holes since no mowing fairways and rough was tall hard to find balls
Awesome course!!
Great course, great staff !! I always have a good time while playing here.
Never ever play on Fridays
Some kind of skins event on Fridays and you can not play through even as a single. Not bad if you like 3+ hours for 9 holes. Greens are pretty good and rolling well, tee boxes and fairways average right now.
Course Is In Great Shape!
Fun day on the links! Arrived early and enjoyed a delicious deli sandwich in the snack bar. The guy that checked us in in the pro shop was friendly & cordial. Enjoyed our round of golf - course was in great shape considering it was winter. Can't wait to play again!
Hidden Gem
Every time I visit my family in Stockton and Galt I drive to this course in Ione. It is so peaceful and the pace of play is fantastic. The greens are very approachable and they have tee boxes for all handicaps. If u don’t mind a quick drive off the main highways it is definitely worth it. Love this course!
Single Guy
The rate came as a nice surprise that morning so I checked with my wife & got green lighted. The course is about a 45 minute drive & is a nice rural cruise. Once there I was greeted in the pro shop by Bob, a nice guy & I was early so got a range token to warm up. He said the course was very quiet that day so I could pick my spot. The front side I followed a twosome that was following a family group so I took my time at each hole & hit a few extra shots from the tees, fairways & around greens, The pace was still very good & so did not have to wait for them to clear. Also the course is pretty well spaced & the cart is a must. On the back nine the course came wide open as both groups in front of me only played nine so I was able to play it in a very short time as I played one ball. It was a beautiful afternoon & though some of the greens were a bit bald in spots the price relative to other courses was outstanding,
Pace of Play Great During the Week, on Weekend Not So Much!
We played on a Tuesday as a twosome - course was fairly open - only had to wait a few holes until a slower threesome let us play through. Course was in great shape for a fall day! Really enjoyed the varying scenery and challenge that each hole provides. Only potential negative is that there are a lot of homes located adjacent to some of the fairways, and definitely come into play.
We also played here the previous Saturday, and pace of play was very slow. Lots of groups on the course, every hole was backed up, carts were due in at 5:00PM so we did not get to finish the last two holes. Going forward, we decided we would only play this course again on a weekday!
