Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Good value
The only thing that I have to complain about is that this is the second time playing and both times the restaurant was closed.
The snack bar was open and had a limited menu...sandwich or hot dog...your choice!
Next time I will not get there so early and find food elsewhere.

The course was not very well maintained, especially the fairways and rough
I really liked the layout of the course but the course was not very well maintained overall.

Nice but with some things that need addressed
First of all, the good: nice course. Great staff. Solid pro shop and and a nice grass range.
What needs work: Pace of play was very slow. Saw one Marshall on the 15th hole.
Groups in front of me taking way too much time looking for their balls every hole. Should be playing easier courses if you’re that bad.
Tons of ball marks in the greens that nobody fixes. Not the staffs responsibility. Seems to be a problem everywhere. Golfers need to fix their ball marks. Same groups left traps unraked. Mommy’s not here to pick up after you. Learn proper course etiquette or again, go play easier courses.
Snack shack has a tiny Hot Dog cooker and was having to microwave hotdogs (were still cold in the center)at the turn because too many people were buying Hot Dogs and they couldn’t cook em fast enough in the mini cooker. Hot Dogs at the turn is nothing new. Please equip the restaurant with equipment that can keep up with the demand.
Will definitely be back. Probably stick to weekday rounds unless I hear the Marshall situation improves.

One of My Favorite Places to Play
Castle Oaks has long been one of my favorite places to play. The course is difficult at times, but not so much to destroy a great outing. I LOVE the character of the course. The holes are well-designed, and you literally have to use every club in your bag. I would have rated the course conditions as "excellent" but I felt that the rough was a little too long. We had to spend too much time searching for balls that were not in the fairway. This is still one of the premier public courses in all of Northern California. I can't wait to get back to Castle and play it again.

First time in 20 years here. Greens were smooth and overall conditions were great. Check out the opportunistic property owner around hole 13,14?

First time
This was my first time play Castle Oaks Golf Club and
It was a treat! The course was in great shape. Greens were in tip top Shape. They weren't the fastest but can tell they will be in 3 weeks time. The course is very open off the tee box which I really liked. You don't have houses crowing the fairway and sitting behind greens worried about taking out a window. The course amenities are awesome as well. Fast pace. And a snack bar with food and drinks ready to go in a jiffy! I can't wait to go back.

Been a while since Covid, playing this course
The weather was perfect and the course remains with awesome scenery. Friendly staff and nice neighborhood. Grass needs to be trimmed a little around fairways, lost 3 balls could not see with tall grasses. Overall still one of my favorite courses. Why is the outside bathroom gets locked at 5pm?
