Grateful for Westlake Golf Course
It’s not Sawgrass but it is a beautifully maintained local course. Staff is great, people are friendly and the beer is cold.
Dimise of Westlake?
We've played Westlake Golf course many times before. After splendid rain in early winter, other courses we've played this year are superb...not Westlake. It's never been a big fancy course but we hadn't played since last year and now it seems worse! For one thing, it was aeration time. I understand this necessity but courses should offer deep discounts during these two weeks...(or close the course or at least aerate front 9, then two weeks later, the back 9 so players not are completely shut out and it should be more prominently displayed on GOLFNOW when reserving the tee time! Westlake even placed a flag & cup 10 yards from the actual green on the 10th hole!
It just seems they haven't done much to improve this small course. What a shame! Waste of time & money!
Don’t play for a few days
Love this place and the people but was really disappointed today. Aware that the greens had been punched I still paid the full rate of $35. Front 9 was was sand and treacherous as expected but the back nine they just placed the pins in the fairway near the greens. Seems like they should have mentioned the greens were off limits on the back or closed until they could be played. I drive about an hour to get there and had they mentioned the conditions more accurately, I wouldn’t have gone today. Marshall was kind of flippant about it.
OK local course
Greens were true and had challenge. Best part was pace of play. Three of us got around in 3 hours
Friendly Staff
This was my first time playing at this course. I found that staff to be very friendly and courteous. The pace if play was what expected for the weekend. A little slow , but I expected that. The course isn’t long, but you need to hit straight shots to play well. Would come back again!
Cart paths only due to recent heavy rain.
Due to cart paths only - strictly enforced even for the disabled - this time our 4 some was round in just over 4 hours. Fair enough I suppose. However, let it be said that the January 1st New Rules of golf - Introduced across the board primarily to speed up play have made no difference whatsoever. I still like this 18 hole shortish golf course which is not too taxing, and I will
continue to come back and play here at very reasonable cost.
Slow fivesome in front not clever
A hopelessly slow fivesome was put out in front of our threesome. One of our 3 moved on to a hole in front of the 5. No problem as the course was not surprisingly clear ahead at that point..Some time later our 2 also went through. The fivesome must have been out on this nice short course for well over 5 hours.
Why do they allow this. Wrecking the enjoyment of everyone behind them.
Great course to walk
Greens were a little bumpy but otherwise this course is more difficult than it looks on paper and is kept in excellent shape.
The layout is flat and greens to tees walk is minimal so it;s a great walking course for exercise.
Westlake is a short but fun course to play. More times than not, you'll get stuck behind either an elderly group or someone just learning the game, and it makes for a very long round, especially on the weekends. If you can play early on a weekday, I've finished a round as a twosome, in 2 and a half hours. The course is always in good condition, but its flat and the layout is nothing special. The staff is always very nice and welcoming. I always enjoy playing here.
