Sleeping Indian/Cottonwood at West Woods Golf Club
About
West Woods Golf Club offers three public golf courses designed by Richard Phelps who has designed a great number of golf courses in Colorado. The three courses have nine holes each but they are combined to form 18-hole courses. The combination changes each day to keep the game interesting. The Sleeping Indian/Cottonwood course at West Woods Golf Club is 7,035 yards from its championship tees, playing to a par of 72. The facility's landscape features ten lakes that add to the beauty and challenge of each course since they create many water hazards. The greens are average-sized and very sloped.

Still a nice track!
Started playing here in the late 90s, but don't get up to Arvada much anymore. Love the original 9s - Sleeping Indian and Cottonwood. Silo is a tricked-up joke that never should have been added. Course conditioning is good, but it's gotten a little pricey to play here in the last few years, at least for those of us on the south side. Definitely recommend if you can get a discounted tee time.
Good course for the money
I played Sleeping Indian/Cottonwood and the 2 nines were in good shape. The pace of play was pretty good for a Saturday morning. The greens were a little slow so it took a couple of putts to get used to it but the greens were pretty true. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Tough but I think I would get the hang of it after a few more rounds
This place has a little of everything. Rolling fairways, water, bunkers, bunkers, and more bunkers, especially fairway bunkers, greens that actually break, trees, rough, you name it. I played Indian to Cottonwood. It was a beautiful course all the way around. The most memorable hole was the #5 par 5. It was like looking at a wall it went so steeply uphill. And the fairway was tight to boot and lined by bunkers. That was a fun double bogey for me.
the 3 different 9 hole courses are different styles
I enjoyed the silo signature hole. the elevated green is super challenging.
Challenging course
Great greens. Stay in the fairway, some of the rough is challenging.
Great course
Played Silo and Indian. Well maintained course with reasonable holes for the average golfer.
Good course great shape, typical muni pace of play though.
The course doesn't play that long. there are several dog legs which require you to make an accurate tee shot. the par threes were moved up so they played short. Lazer prisms on the pins helped with distances. Becareful with you GPS that you input the correct two nines in sequence or you may be confused after the turn. the greens were very nice. It's a fairly easy course to walk although there are several stretches between tee's that are longer than most courses. This is probably what contributed to the slow pace of play. Cart girls came by frequently and were friendly.
well maintained, good course
The course is nice, not great. I wish it had a bit more variety, several of the holes are the same, water on the left, dogleg left. Bunkers were well maintained with soft sand.
Great coarse
Beautiful grounds, challenging coarse, and great views. Greens r great. Can't ask for more.
This course has great views of the mountains, and the city of Denver. The courses I played were the Silo, and the Sleeping Indian.
I played the Silo, and Sleeping Indian course on a Sunday. I was able to reserve a tee time for a friend and I for $35/player. I consider this to be a good price for this course. There were a good mix of holes that were challenging, and others that were easy, making for a good round of golf. The views of the mountains are great, and you can even see the city of Denver from a few holes. I was a little disappointed in the course conditions in a few spots. All of the greens were having aerification done, making putting impossible to judge. Disappointed that the sand bunkers had rocks in them, and that there were areas in the fairways with no grass.
Challenging Layout, Fun to Play
I played the Silo and the Sleeping Indian courses at West Woods. Both courses were very well maintained and had beautiful scenery. The Silo course was decidedly harder than Sleeping Indian, which made the round great. I knew going into it that the Silo course required a lot more course management and that my score would probably be higher. Once, I got to Sleeping Indian the course opened up a lot and I could relax and change my strategy completely. This was a great change of pace from courses that are extremely difficult or easy throughout the entire round.
Give the Silo a try when you play. They have an amazing par 5 hole all up hill (really up hill) with a Silo to go around. It is a very unique and fun hole.
Double charged (?) and VERY SLOW play.....
When I got there to check in, I was charged (again) for my green fees. I explained that I had already paid Golf Now with a CC. I hope that I will not be double charged & that this will not become a hassle with Golf Now. If so, I will NOT be using the service again!
The fairways were dry with lots of hard pan and brown patches. The greens were dry and looked as if they were recently punched, more brown patches. Carts were required to stay on the cart paths making the play excruciatingly (painfully) slow and much more difficult for older players. There are virtually NO yardage markers on the course. Disappointing round from start to finish!
Cool silo in the middle of the fairway on the uphill par 5
its winter what do you expect. greens were bumpy. all the lakes were frozen its like cheating.
This course has good features
Over all this golf course is challenging, well maintained, and a very relaxing place to play with nice views throughout the course.
Sleeping Indian & Cottonwood is the best course!
First time in several rounds here that I've been on Cottonwood nine and it was as nice as I remembered. Course was in very good condition for mid-November, but players need to remember that it's their obligation to the game to repair damage to tees, greens and divots from their clubs and balls. Greens were unacceptably ball marked, but greenskeepers can't follow golfers around to repair damage they've done - even pros repair their ball marks (and those left by others) on greens.
Late season rates are a genuine bargain.
Another great late fall game..
The staff however, wanted a printed copy of the receipt showing that a cart was included, though very few Golf Now deals exclude carts in the price. Still, not a big hassle and I had a great game. Their practice area is nice, with a small chipping green, in addition to the putting green and driving range.
Silo and Indian
Silo was definitely the more challenging 9 where Indian was fairly wide open. The course was well maintained, good amount of elevation change, fast, smooth greens.
Demanding
Very nice course, lots of water, accuracy is a must, nice place to play for all levels.
A variety of challenges depending on which 9s you play.
Generally well kept course that demands accuracy or features large (or even drastic) elevation changes. Three nine-hole courses whose selection for 18 varies day to day.
nice course
nice course, would play again, good bargain, coursw was in good shape, friendly staff
