It's come a long way
Valley Hi has been a municipal course for years. the course design has always been adequate but the conditions were always a little to be desired. Since Patty Jewett took over the course management I have to say, it is now on par with the other courses in the area. We have been blessed with ample rain this summer so the greens and fairways were in excellent shape. Keep up the good work.
The Hi
Course is in great shape. Greens are running nice. New practice facilities are outstanding!
Not challenging
The course plays well. The men's tees & the tips were well forward. Not too many locations to penalize a wayward shot. Overall I shot my best round of the year.
So so
Real expensive for value, course was real slow, second cut real high
Nice Course...but....
Valley Hi is a very beautiful course, great for beginners and advanced a like. Staff was very friendly and the starter was a great to chat with while I waited for the two gentlemen I was paired with. Wide fairways and huge greens make recovery from a bad shot very common. And yes I will play it again...
But... The day I golfed here, foot golf was being set up at the same time. It was really strange looking down a fairway on the front nine, and seeing 3 flags. It seems that every regular hole in golf was two holes in footgolf. So, if you hit a drive just off the fairway on the front nine, you could end up with a hole in one...just a footgolf hole since they are so much larger. Back nine was perfect.
So, if the extra holes distract you, my recommendation is to schedule your round on the opposite days of the footgolf days. Other than that, this is a very nice course and I look forward to playing again.
Nice Muni Course
Pretty straightforward muni course that gets a lot of play. Greens were in good shape, there were some spots in the fairways where it was quite wet, but we had a lot of rain recently.
Course itself was pretty straightforward, not too hard, you can pretty much picture all the shots from the Tee box, nothing too hidden or scary. Pretty average muni course
Great Value
This course was worth the Hot Deal pricing that I'd received.
Confidence Builder
This course was a blast. Course was in great shape. if there was a complaint it would be that there were some soggy spots in fairways but do to all the rain can't blame anyone but mother nature. First time playing 18 here. Just a great course that wasn't terribly challenging. Pace of play was great a lot of fun holes. Brought a friend and will bring more in the future. Next time will stay for lunch.
Valley Hi
The course was in good condition. The biggest issue that I had was I did not see any ball washers at any of the tee boxes, and there were none on the carts. The food was great. The play was slower than usual due to a high school tournament going on.
Good muni course, but it can have slow play.
Enjoyed the course, but slow play was the curse of the front 9. Even so, my twosome finished in 4 hours.
friendly staff and starters
I been playing golf for about 6 years now. This course is right down the street from my house so its very convienent for me to go play there. It makes it easier when the staff treats you respectfully and remembers you by your name.
Staff Freindly
Great deal for the money spent. 78 degrees in February played the course in 4 hours.
Fair, Fun, Friendly
I was told Valley Hi was an old Country Club that had seen better days and been acquired by the city and is now a muni. The clubhouse was comfortable. The driving range was caged and in fair shape. The first hole has the number 1 handicap and is a long par 5. The fairways are in good shape, the ground is soft and ball sits up, the cuts are a little deep just off and around the greens. The bent grass will grab your club so takes a little practice to keep you club head from opening or closing and to keep that soft chip shot from chunking. The traps are fair and well groomed. The greens can be very challenging. The grass here is not PGA perfect but does not hurt your putt. The greens are not flat. They roll and turn, it broke more than I read and sometimes the ball would fall off the table rather than slide downhill to the hole. The staff is very friendly, the golfers are friendly, and the cart girl is a hoot. You know it's homey when the golfers in the parking lot speak to you as you are walking to the clubhouse. The cart girl came by early and often. The hot dogs were the best I'd had in a while and the beer selection was impressive. Guinness Beer and hot dogs on a golf course is a five star time to me. I recommend this course for those who want to have a fun day golfing.
Well maintained, enjoyable course
If you want a good round of golf on a well maintained course, then this is is a golf course to consider.
I found the course in very good condition as it has rained extensively in this area for the past two weeks. Greens well maintained and very receptive.
Watch the lengths of your clubs off the tee because not every hole should use the driver, and placement of your drive on hole 12 is important.
Generally speaking this course is fairly flat with some undulations, elevation rises and drops, but not much.
I would say this is golf course is your standard, enjoyable but "inspired" course like you might find at Bear Dance or perhaps Plum Creek.
Lightening Shortened Round
Let's start by saying that we only got through 10 holes due to lightning in the area. This is the sister course to Patty Jewett, but the layouts couldn't be more different. As a first timer here, there were a few holes where local knowledge would have been helpful. The staff was professional if not overly friendly. The cart girl showed up regularly. As far as the course itself, the tee boxes were in fair condition. They were level without being overly chewed up for a muni. The rough was very lush and presented a serious challenge if you found yourself there. The sand seemed well cared for, but was wet and heavy due to the weather. Fairways for the more part were green and lush although we did encounter a few bare spots. The course shines on the greens. Very well manicured and faster than you'd expect. Overall, we were pleased and expect to return to see the rest of the course.
Typical Muni course
This course is appealing to hackers. Laid back atmosphere and no real surprises. Most greens are sloped to the front, so be aware of that.
Aged but in good condition for a municipal
Facilities are clearly aged and the city has not put much money into them. The course was in very good condition considering the ownership. There were some dry spots but the greens were well watered and pretty true in most cases. Fairways were well tended, bunkers hard from recent rains. We had the back nine to ourselves after lunch on a Monday. Lot of golf for the money.
Overbooked
Booked our tee time for 12:20pm... They did not get us off until almost 1:30 and we had to wait on carts.
Getting off an hour late is unacceptable... And then add in a 5 hour round.
Course was in good shape but I likely will not return there due to the overbooking and pace of play.
Good shape for time of year
As it's early in the golf season and I've only been to a couple other courses and driven by a few as well this course was in the best condition by far.
Nice muni course
This was a nice muni that played pretty fast. I'm a 29-hc, so was happy to par the 1st 3 holes; hubby struggled as he could never find the (wide) fairways. Nice choice of tees, but couldn't ever find the green tee box on 11! Not sure it's a good idea to have tee markers the same color as the grass.
