Had not played this course in a while and they have it in great shape. A few remodeled and new tee boxes with flowers and nice walls. Sand traps were well prepared and greens were good. I will be back
Getting Much Better
We play Yampa Valley several times a year - last year it was almost unplayable but it has improved immensely this year! There are still a few rough patches & the course is very wet in several places but overall the course is FAR better than last year - looking forward to next year!! One thing that should be done to enhance the experience is level ALL the tee boxes.
Yampa Valley is Almost Back!
My husband and I fell in love with this hidden gem of a course in 2017 when it was in great shape. We returned in 2018 to find it in pretty bad shape. Sadly, our visit in 2019 found it in even worse shape. So, during this year's 2020 visit to Steamboat Springs, we read a few not so great reviews and decided to not include it in this year's vacation rounds. However, we ran in to some folks who raved about it being in great shape again. So, we headed to YV the very next day and were THRILLED to find that obviously this community course has had a lot of TLC and is almost back to its lush beauty of 2017!
We love the layout of the course and the surroundings are beautiful (love the landscaping and flowers!). The greens were in great shape and are near tour quality! We were there probably the day before they mowed, so the fairways were a bit too high for our liking (no rolls). The tee boxes still need some work. But, if those hadn't been the case, we would give it a 5 star rating again. Hopefully, next year they'll be back to 5! For this year, though... we highly recommend it to anyone not wanting to pay the ridiculous green fees in Steamboat Springs and willing to drive an hour! It's totally worth it! Book your tee time early and play it twice!!
Tough times
Love this course, been playing for years now but the recent winter/spring must have been very tough. Now the monsoon has dumped lots of rain leaving many soggy areas, greens are nice.
Great course layout, in rough shape.
This is a very nice layout with some fairly challenging holes. The course is in fairly rough shape though. If they could get this back in great shape it would be an outstanding course. It is still a good value and a fun course to play. The clubhouse and bar are both very nice and have everything you need.
Course needs some TLC
We've played Yampa Valley numerous times over the last several years - maybe fifteen times. This was the first time this year. We couldn't believe how downhill the course has gone. Tee boxes beat up and full of weeds - tough to find a level, grassy place to tee off from. Numerous sand traps with groupings of weeds growing in them. Fairways are so so and most greens are long, but OK. Some with winter damage. Overall not too shiny!
Could be mice
The fairways greens and tee boxes were all in horrible shape greens look like they are only cut once a week and still x of the eighteen greens were mostly dead. Tee boxes look like they only watered once a week and not cared for at all. Fairway are mostly dead and the ruff was so tall it was like golfing in weeds. It’s been a few years since I have played this course and the last time I got layes there everything was beautifully kept. The staff was great and friendly. Probably won’t play this course again unless they can turn it around especially since I can play a well kept course for less money than even golf now can get so I feel a little jipped paying so much for crappy conditions
Great community course needs support
Yampa Valley has had some hard times and current conditions are poor, but showing improvements. Greens are generally in good shape but very slow, probably to allow regrowth from winter kill. Fairways ok, with more problems on back nine w/ recent pump breakdown, but back up, conditions will improve quickly.
Always a fun layout and still playable, with realistic expectations. Play it! Would hate to lose a great local course.
Getting Better by the Week
Play this course several times a year & enjoy it very much but last year the course was in AWFUL shape due to personnel issues at the end of 2018. However, the pro, Scott Ballif & his greens staff have done near miracles, given the shape of the course last year! For the most part, the fairways are in good conditions & the greens, with a couple of exceptions, are nearly back to 2016-17 conditions, albeit a bit slow. It will take time for the course to come back completely but I have no reservations recommending Yampa Valley for a FUN round!
Greens unputtable
I know it’s early in the season but last year a lot of their greens were in repair and thought they would be better. NOPE! All other aspects of the course are great! Tee boxes & fairways good. Always nice to play a fun 18 but won’t try again until end of the season. Putting is what I need to work on and it’s not worth it to even try. Staff great & price okay. Get a BETTER grounds crew to treat in the winter. Not my expertise.
Really?
Play this course for the last three years and it was by far in the worst condition I’ve seen it ever. But never charged anybody full price for playing 18 there. Golf now usually has better deals especially for a course that is in dire need of attention and growth. I’m hoping that next year comes back strong otherwise I won’t be playing there ever again
Decent course, greens struggle a little bit to be smooth, but for the location and the price it’s a great place to golf.
Course conditions weren’t good (snow mold) from the winter but ground crew are working hard to bring it back to what it use to be. Love this he course easy walk good staff. I have played this course many time it’s sad to see the greens in the condition they are, but it is getting better. I will return.
Greens in rough shape right now.
We have played this course many times over the years and always found it to be in very good condition. However currently most all of the greens have been severely affected by some kind of fungus or winter kill making them very patchy, rough and generally very slow paced. Three putts would be the norm now because of the rough conditions. Still good value with hot deal but just go there with the right expectations.
Too Good to Pass Up
Last minute decision to play - got on at about 12:30/finished 4:00! Course is in excellent condition, given our lack of rain, but a couple of the greens are still crusty & can use a bit of TLC. Staff, as always, was super friendly. Recommend bringing bug spray if no breeze - mosquitoes are HUNGRY!! GREAT course, value & hard to find a friendlier staff! If you're visiting Steamboat, there is NO question that it's worth the 45 minute drive.
Warm & Quick
My wife & I played June 27 about 1:30 (92°) so not very crowded. Pace of play was excellent 3.5 hour round. Course was in excellent condition, with exception of 2 greens being a bit crusty. Overall a VERY enjoyable day of golf!! Also saw 2 bald eagles, one flying overhead & other in nest near river on 15 fairway.
Amazing girl time!
So nice to golf without pressure & on such a well maintained course and the value with the GN app is the best! Love YVGC. My friends and family keep coming back time & time again.
