Played because it’s the highest course in the US

I had already played the course in Death Valley, which is the lowest course in the US (maybe the world, I don’t remember) so I thought I would play the highest course in the US. We played collegiate peaks in buena vista in the morning then drove to Leadville to play Mt Massive. We walked both nines, which is doable, but they are at 8000 ft and 10000 ft elevation respectively so don’t do it if your not in decent shape or accustomed to high altitude (I live in Albuquerque at 5700 feet and it was still a big change).

Course is nice with only one uphill hole, a blind shot par three, and one downhill hole. Lots of trees and great views. Greens were much slower than buena vista, where we had played in the am, and we never got used to that. All the greens are very small, probably the smallest you will ever play, and some are elevated. A nice place to play and get in a scenic nine holes.

It's a fun place to play. My skill level is low to moderate, so Mt. Massive is perfect.

It’s about the experience

The staff is as friendly as possible. The course conditions for beginning of summer are 2.5/5 but considering you’re playing at 2 miles above sea level, they do the absolute best they can when it comes to maintenance. It is a shorter course but it is priced incredibly fair and the views are unbeatable.

Use to have better value

This use to be a fun course to play because it was inexpensive. Some how the prices keep going up which takes away from the reason to come play this course. Earlier in the week we paid 12 to walk 9 holes, a few days later we paid 16, and then the weekend 22 to walk 9. When asked about the price differences she said we just mowed the fairways so it costs more. She then told us it was peak season.. this is strange because it had just opened two weeks before and it was still the 3rd week of May.

For the price there is better courses to play. If they go back to their old prices then the value would come back.

OK Overall

You have to take into account this is a high mountain course - 9600'. Their season is short - there was snow already on the surrounding mountain tops. It was a beautiful day as the trees were just starting to change and the scenery is gorgeous! The ball rolls forever & the greens are very small. Trees line the fairways and you will play the same 9 twice for 18 holes.

Great conditions, friendly staff - awesome views and setting!

I expected a rough outing, given the elevation (highest course on the continent!), short season and small town. Pleasantly surprised at how well maintained the course is, especially the small greens. Staff went out of their way to help me with a flat tire and squeeze me in even though I was running late. What's really cool is the lack of houses, and undeveloped countryside - truly a walk in the woods

Horrible course and players!

Easy course with no challenges except the greens. The staff was beyond rude and would not honor the golf now promotion. We booked a tee time at $15 a person with a cart but when we got there the lady was fighting with us on the price and would not include the cart as stated on website. We had to pay an additional $13 to pay the course, if we would have known that we would have played some where in the metro much closer to home. Once we finally got to play, the pace was mind numbingly slow it took over 5 hours to play 15 holes - we left due to the slow play and the rude players in front of us.
