Nine Hole at South Suburban Golf Course
About
The South Suburban Golf Course facility offers two municipal courses, one that is nine holes and another that is 18 holes. The Nine Hole Course is one of several courses in Colorado designed by famed golf architect Richard Phelps. The par-3 course offers 1,270 yards of golf. Although it is a short course, it does have some challenging features. Shot accuracy is required since water hazards come into play on many of the holes. Although they are public courses, the South Suburban facility offers the amenities of a private course. There is a restaurant, a pro shop, and even an on-site teaching pro.

Good, moderate course with challenging greens
This has been on my list to play for a bit. The greens have a reputation for being the primary defenses of the course. Sure enough, this proved accurate. One of the staff told me the greens here are rated the 2nd hardest in the state, second to Bear Dance.
Perhaps the iffy forecast and it being a Monday early in the spring led to a hard-to-turn-down price that got me out in the playable weather window. The large bucket for the range turned out to be a lot of golfballs to warm-up with, more than I could use, so a couple young golfers out for their first golfing experience got a bonus. I probably should have warmed-up with more significant putting given it was my first time here. Playing these fairly sloped greens really emphasizes trying to stay below the hole, if at all possible. Still, it's a fair challenge, at least at this time of the year.
The length at 6683 yards max (5328 min) and the forgiving layout/conditions in early spring probably explains some of the popularity among us average-ish golfers. Deals tend to get gobbled up here. The course was in pretty good shape despite the really dry winter we've had. FWIW, there is a par 3 course to add a few more holes to those who didn't get their fill with 18. Also, this course is quite walkable, <4 hours at a fairly leisurely pace.
The clubhouse renovations looks great. Nice job.
It's worth returning here.
par 3 construction
recently played, found out once i got there that the par 3 course is only 8 holes due to construction. avoid the course. eliminated 2 good holes and instead had a 60 yard hole. The course needs to put this on their website!! Would have played elsewhere had I known.
Really a nice course the greens are very tough though
Beautiful layout. Course was in good shape. Great views of the mountains. Undulating fast greens. Some pin placements were in impossible to get close.
Great Muny
This municipal Course is typically in great shape and gets a lot of play. Can be slow on weekends. Great views of front range. Fast greens but they are steeply sloped from back to front. Stay below the hole. Just revamped 9th and 18th hole. Great course for the money.
Great deal on a great course!
Love playing at South Suburban! The only bad thing of the entire 18 holes was the greens had just been aerated and they were very difficult to play. Very frustrating when you typically are pretty good at putting. Wish a discount had been offered due to the condition of the greens. Other than that, it was a perfect day for golf!
If you want a drink, bring your own.
On a record setting hot day there was no drink cart on the course. 4 people in the clubhouse though just hanging out serving 2 tables. Is there a manager at this place? How can you have a holiday Sunday afternoon with no cart service on the course? Ridiculous
Also there were a bunch of non-golfers playing for some reason, we pushed them hard all day and there was never a marshall seen either. I must have fixed 3 balls at least on every green. Golf etiquette is a thing of the past at this daily fee municipal.
Beware of GN PRICING!
Golf now posted the teetime as 18 holes with range balls and a cart for $34. When I got to the course they said if you look into the email it says “nine holes” that I got from GolfNow, and indicated to me that golf now has done this before and it is an “incorrect posting” and that the price I paid for was only for nine holes. I would like golf now to refund me my service charge of $3.50. As I had to pay the full fee of $60 with no range balls.
Horrible greens
The greens are just so bad. So bad that Im told they cant have CGA events there! the course was muddy and the greens in bad shape. not to mention the impossible sloped greens. i like tough but unfair is a different story. spent a fortune on the new club house and the course is going to crud.
Greens
The course is laid out fairly well and was in great shape. The greens are extremely challenging. Almost unfair to be honest. Be ready to 3 put a few holes!
tough pins
Tough greens and pins - with the greens dried and some wind its very easy to 3 putt from close.
4:15 round on a Saturday????
I don't know how lucky I got but I bought a hot deals tee time for 2:06pm on a Saturday as a single. I arrived early and hit some balls and when I met my group at the tee box there was no one in front of us or behind us. We played that way until we caught a foursome on 14. Probably only because two of our group dropped after nine and we sped up. I play regularly at Raccoon Creek and it is never under 5 hours. AWESOME!!! Will be back soon.
