Eh
The course was decent enough, but the layout of these holes is absolutely ridiculous. Unless you have someone that knows where to go, you will be driving around lost looking for your next tee box. Guaranteed.
Fun course
Fun course. Lots of fun and challenging holes. Nice course to try new stuff.
Labor Day golf - fun, busy, bumpy
We got a last minute tee time for Labor Day unexpected when a hotdeal showed up on Golfnow.com. It showed the option to walk at an earlier start, so we booked a 3 some. It is a alluring course due to its uniqueness. Some holes just make you want to figure out how to play them well.
It is a tight, unusual course with scoring potential, yet the hidden risks may not be worth it on every hole. You have to pick your battles.
At the check-in, they told us there was a hiccup that allowed us to walk before 1p on a holiday or weekend. It's a short course. I was confident we would keep up. They blocked the 4th spot, since they were concerned a riding player would not want to play as slow as us. Well, the starter said 12 minutes/hole = 3h 36m. Hmm, doable, but could a full tee sheet do that on a tight, overlapping layout?
We played and found a walking pace was well faster than the tee sheet could allow. We waited on most of the holes which was fine by us. Still, the intrigue of a new course for 2 of us kept us engaged. It was a fun day. #7's blue tee is blind to #7's red tees, so we teed off before the group ahead of us finished teeing off...oops. Some of the red tees are very, very short allowing my wife to get near the green on the tee shot. There were a couple holes where driver was too much from the blue tee for an average player (#15, 251y, par 4, #16 downhill 275y par 4, blue tees). The greens were heavily top dressed and distinctly bumpy on some holes like #4.
Expect a bit of a wild ride if you play this course, especially on a busy day.
Forget the scorecard if you worry about your handicap.
It was a fun day. Happy Labor Day!
Great Course
Was a perfect Colorado day, directions from hole to hole sometimes was a little confusing but two of us are former Marines so what do you expect! haha Club staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Great Course
Nice relaxing round of golf can’t wait to get back.
A Unique Experience
Booked this course at the last minute with no research. The Staff was very friendly and seemed interested in you having a good time. I’m not a fan of having to share a cart with a stranger, but it is required here. I am a cigar smoker and enjoy the golf course more when I’m not concerned about the comfort of my cart mate. Fortunately, the rider who joined me this time did not have an issue with my cigars. One other quirk, the Cart lady is only available at hole five. She and her cart simply set off the tees on five to sell you beverages. Some city ordinance, apparently will not allow her to move to other locations. The distance between green and tee would make this a longer than normal walk if you chose to carry your bag.
Now on to the course. The greens are soft and hold shots well. They role true and quick. Kudos to the groundskeepers. It is a relatively short layout, and there are several options for tees. My major concern was that holes seven and eleven crisscross. It was confusing and led to a bit of congestion. There are several other holes where some additional signage would aid golfers in determining where and when to hit shots. All in all, I’m sure I’ll be back. I think course knowledge is important to truly enjoy your round.
Horrible staff beautiful course
Too bad there isn’t a way to give less than one star. Called in advance and they told us we could absolutely have 4 players and 1 rider with no issue so we went ahead and booked the tee time for over $200. Upon arrival they said they can’t give us the extra cart for our 5 players because they were “too busy and had a full house” yet they had plenty of extra carts just parked waiting (before, during and after our 18 holes). We tried to accommodate to them and said our 5th would walk the course with the rest of us in 2 carts but somehow you’re not allowed to walk the course before 1pm so yet again we went back to the drawing board. Our 5th ended up having to drive a hour back home due to the pro shop employees not wanting to help us or work with us at all. We eventually asked for our money back but we were denied so then we were forced to proceed with checking in so that we didn’t waste the $200+. On hole 2 the ranger came up to us and told us we needed to “close the gaps because he had a tee time later in the day and no one wants to play a 5 hour round” The course is beautiful but unfortunately all the staff, including the manager and the ranger made it a very horrible time. Again I really wish I could rate this less than one star. Used to love this place but I will never ever be back after today.
Be Patient
Mad Russian is an awesome golf course. Just be prepared for slow play Marshall needs to do a better job at moving slow players along. And finally if you want something other than water you better buy it before you start on the back nine. No beverage cart on back side, but there is cold water everywhere.
Very friendly
Each staff person we interacted with was very friendly and welcoming. The course is in great shape. We enjoyed our round and will return.
