Fun, Early Season Round
Well, the Golf Now deal of the day screamed $15 a round, which includes cart (roughly $18 and change with tax).
So, needing to get a round in and get out of Vail Valley to a warmer, lower climate in spring, I decided to jump on the deal.
I grabbed a buddy and we drove the 1.5 hours to the little town of Rifle. Straight shot down I-40.
Arriving at the course a few miles north of town approacing Rifle Gap, the course immediately drew some comparisons to a similar course up the road a ways: Lakota Canyon.
Both courses have 9 holes on the "flats" and 9 holes snaking their way back into the canyons of the nearby bald rock and cedar.
The front 9 of Rifle was as about as boring and municipal golf course as you could get. Very little fairway grass or imagination with the layout. However, once we crossed the road to the Back 9, things got much more interesting. The Back 9 was in much better shape, prettier and much more fun and challenging.
The staff was outstandingly friendly and helfpul and we waited no time from car to tee or vice versa. Easy Peasy.
We both realized that the season was early and the course would become even better as the warm weather progressed, so we vowed to come back for another round, now that we know where to hit it.
Best Ever
I have played Rifle Creek Golf Course for 20 years twice a year.
Last week we played twice and by far the course was in the best condition I’ve ever experienced. The is a delightfully challenging short course with vistas which will make you stop and pull out the cameras.
The pro shop and restaurant is well managed and well stocked.
Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde
The front nine is like many city courses...relatively flat, lots of mature trees, and native grasses to avoid. However, the back nine takes you to many elevated tee boxes, blind drives, and a need for tight course management. Views are awesome.
Rifle Creek
Front nine is a pretty average layout, but the back gets pretty interesting with a lot of elevation change up and down. Absolutely beautiful views both front and back. A “Must Play” if you’re in the area!
Beautiful setting!
Vacation golf in a beautiful setting! Friendly staff. Can’t wait for my next trip here so I can play again.
Great course
Great course front 9 is pretty flat but back 9 is in mountains alot of elevation changes .
Played on a Friday morning. The coarse was not busy and we were able to play extremely fast. Coarse was in good condition and staff was very accommodating to allow us to replay an additional 9..
Fun course. Beautiful vistas.
Two entirely different nines. Back nine more difficult.
Enjoyed the day playing there!
Getting a little rough….
Love the location and course, it just needs some maintenance done. Cart paths are sad . A little to expensive for the course conditions.

Good hospitality with a hometown feel. Greens do not hold a shot. They are very firm! Front side pretty much flat and out in front of you. Back side in the canyons. Fun and entertaining.
Fun couple's course
My wife enjoyed it as much as I did. Beautiful setting and a great variety of holes! Thanks
Good Deal
Everyone was friendly and helpful. All in all a good day.
