Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - Gold Course
The Gold Course from Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is the only 18-hole course at the facility. Designed by Frank Hummel, the course opened in 1959 and used to include the 9 holes of the Blue Course as the front nine. Currently however, both the Gold and the Blue are separate courses. The landscape of the Gold is hilly and seven ponds create a beautiful atmosphere while also adding challenging water hazards to eleven holes. Although the entire course is scenic, the 12th hole is considered to have the most picturesque views. Its elevated tee offers gorgeous vistas of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is known not only for its gorgeous scenery, it has also received acclaim from golf publications such as Golf Digest.

Good round, a little slow
Started with one other, and wound up finishing by myself. There were a few foursomes in front of us and we couldn't play through. Wound up being 4:20 for the round (12:10 tee time on a Thursday). Not terrible, but could have been a little quicker. Greens were good and lightning fast. Bunkers were raked and full. Fairways had been aerated but were fine. I got 18 with cart for $43 and had a $20 off cert, so for $23 it was well worth it. I don't like that their range only lets you hit on mats. But the starter is on the ball and keeps people moving.
Good course, nice layout
Nice course. I got a good deal on Golfnow. Wound up playing by myself, and was able to play through a few groups. They were aerating the fairways, which was fine, except one had the equipment in the middle. But well maintained and the greens were nice, pretty quick. Bunkers had been raked recently. Grass was a little thing and worn around a few greens, but not too bad. Main complaint is that the driving range is mats only, no grass, and no chipping/bunker practice area.
Worst experience since I started playing
I will never play this course again. Took 3 hours to play 9. Didn’t see one ranger, Called the pro shop, they say “two rangers were on the course”. Waste of a whole afternoon.
HORRIBLE PACE OF PLAY!!!!
Been playing here for years and today was the WORST pace of play I have ever experienced at any course. It was a 6 hour round. No course Marshall in site. There was one group that held up the entire course and there was nobody out on the course to pick up the pace. 6 hour round?! What a joke. Won’t be coming back to Hyland Hills anymore.
I enjoyed the course, challenging, very slow greens i couldn't get used to having never played here before.
I would recommend others to play here. I will be back. I wasn't able to finish as it was late, so i'm looking forward to getting back. My friend who golfs there weekly told me I could have gotten rain check. I knew that just didn't ask.
Front nine was great. Less than two hours. Back nine nightmare. Three and a half hours. Finally called to complain at hole 14. A young man came out in a cart around 16 and apologized and said it would get better. It didn’t.
Love the layout!
This is one of the most interesting courses I’ve played. Love the layout. Fairways are not as well kept as one would like and They really need to do something about their sand traps cause they are always hard and gravely . I guess just stay out of em! Great course , Fair conditions , good and drink prices are kept very reasonable.
Bad weather and bad course conditions
After 4 holes we got rained out on Friday, 6/21. Course was willing to give full rain check but booking through golf now made this round non refundable! Terrible policy by golf now. This is the second time I've been burned by golf now policy on weather! Will never use them again and will never go to Highland Hills again!
Played this course today for the first time. I understood that holes 5-16 were new a few years ago and then 17 and 18 were redone also. The newer holes are more interesting and better designed than the old ones. The older ones were not in as good of shape as the new ones either.
Play was pretty good on the front but slow on the back.
I ate breakfast in the bar and it was great!
This place is really cool with the par 3, 9 hole and 18 hole options.Lots of Woman and family play.
Pretty good course for my first time out! Staff was more than accommodating, they were friendly and welcoming which is what you want at a golf course.
The course is a fair test of golf. Really is designed for lower handicapped golfers.
Great course for the price.
Less than $50 gets you 18 w/cart on a gorgeous course. Early season conditions are a little rough but that’s to be expected. One of my favorite courses in the area for sure.
