If the pace of play was vastly improved, this course would be terrific. Greens are relatively slow, but TOUGH. Many holes have blind shots where if you had knowledge before the hole, it would be relatively easy to play. Holes are short but many difficult shots into the greens.
Progressive Jackpot Course
This scenic course offers natural beauty. It offers a variety of risks and reward shots. Challenging contoured greens and a terrific natural layout with a wonderful flow for the game.
Delightful staff and make you feel like a winner.
Guys Trip Course
Played this course last weekend after finishing up a conference at The Mohegan Sun. Unfortunately, this was the hottest day of the summer (over 100 degrees). We were very fortunate to be able to tee off early and they had coolers along the course filled with ice and bottles of water. Very nice of them! The course can be a little tricky off the tee as not every hole is a driver off the tee, which puts a premium on position golf off the tee. There are numerous fairway bunkers that have fescue around them, which can make it difficult/unfortunate if the ball doesn’t make it to the sand. The fairways were firm and in good condition. The greens were nice and soft and rolled pretty well. They were a little slow for my taste the day we played but they rolled well so that made up for it. Overall, it’s a pretty good course and would recommend playing if in the area.
Even with all the past rain, course was in great shape. Stay in short grass as rough can be hard to get through.
Tough day on the course!
Course was in great shape!
A tough layout if you left your A or B game home ..... like I did today. Ouch!!
4 some in front of us were either beginners or just having a very very bad day. Thankfully they let us pass through at the snack shack.
Staff was very accommodating
The young guys working the bag drop area were outstanding.
Food in restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced !
Golfnow price of $40 was amazing!!
Great Course even with a little bit of rain
This course was amazing to play, even with the course being wet and having been aerated recently. The course was well maintained. The drainage system worked well because even during wet conditions our balls didnt even plug. The ball rolled true and was pretty fast even during wet play. The only thing I can say is this course was amazing and I will definitely Play it again.
1st time playing the course and heard great reviews. The staff was nice and helpful. Played in the afternoon and the greens were beaten up with spike marks along with tons of unrepaired ball marks - pet peeve of mine. If we played in the morning the greens would have likely been better shape. For a Thursday, the round took almost 5 hours with no oversight from staff. With that being said, the course had some unique holes that required some thinking. I would recommend this course only if you are being comped from the casino or found a great deal from golf now, but beware of the slow play...
The greens alone make this course an unusual treat. Interesting contours, true rolls, fast without being ridiculous. The shotmaking challenges were fun, but I really looked forward to pulling out the putter. Traps were in need of some raking, otherwise the course conditions were excellent. A couple of tricked-up tight doglegs with blind drives; otherwise a very nice layout.
Is this grass or carpeting?
It's amazing how much better you hit the ball when it is on a perfect surface/ This course has perfect Fairways from one end to the other. Medium narrow Fairways in some spots, rolling Fairways on many holes (think Player Course at Lyman Orchards). The greens are hard, undulating in spots like a miniature golf course. Free bottled water at several holes. Special holes feature elevated greens, blind doglegs and a blend of Links and traditional American layouts. A very nice staff round out the experience. I only played nine holes and it was the best I've played EVER. One drawback: gas golf carts!
Nice, Challenging Course
This course was in excellent condition and was challenging. There are a number of difficult greens with multiple tiers and undulations. A good amount of elevation changes and strong winds require you to plan your shots. The greens run quick but true. Nice practice facilities and friendly staff.
My only complaint is that the GPS in my cart did not work, which was disappointing and made the course
more challenging to navigate.
Not worth full retail.
Got a hot deal on Golf Now so my two sons and I played on a Monday. Play was slow with a 9:50 tee time. Course was fully booked from my understanding. Lots of funky holes. Back to back par fives on the front where you can't hit driver and the layout is set up for three shots. Humps in middle of greens. Lots of stuff you can't see until you play the hole...course knowledge is key.
GPS on the carts, grill house in the middle of the course so lots of opportunity to spend money on alcohol..hey it's a casino course. Greens were good and conditions were great as well.
If we hadn't shopped for the hot deal I would have been very disappointed. If it's free because you are a gambler, enjoy it.
Good deal from Golf Now!
Played because I got a great deal on golf now. I did another review today and for this I will do the same. It’s a great old course that had some holes changed and others massaged few years ago. Would I pay $140 to play it. No. But if you get a deal then it’s worth it. I was fortunate to have met a great guy who’s been a member before Mohegan bought it and guided me through my round with him. There are some straight forward holes and some challenging holes with some blind shots. Greens were quick and true and it was fun to putt on them. I look forward to playing it again soon.
Solid country club-turned-casino golf
Mohegan Sun is a bit of a hodgepodge, owing to its recent history. The course dates back to the 60s, but when the tribe bought it for the benefit of its resort guests and members a decade ago, architect Robert O'Neil updated the bunkering into a more rugged aesthetic, but he also built a few new holes, which are a bit different in style the rest of the course. The greens on these newer holes are a bit lumpier than the back-to-front Cornish ones, but overall the course is worth playing for its pleasant parkland setting and the excellent conditions. Just be careful and err on the side of safety on the somewhat awkward 6th and 7th.
What a great experience!!
Tee to green course was in exceptional shape.
Staff was great.
Suggestion: they need to revisit the bar/grill. Some quality issues with food served.
Overall.... a treat to play.... we will be back soon.
Great round-fast but consistent greens
Paid $40 for a hot deal round. Had great weather. Free water and a beverage/food cart was provided. Greens were fast and sloping. Pace was just over 5 hours. Did not see a ranger all day. This course is well worth the price we paid. Carts had gps.
group in front of us was 4some with 2 players and 2 who probably never played golf before. The were fine until the alcohol kicked in around 7th hole. The ground to a halt and last 5 holes took 2 hours. However, still finished in a absolutely crappy 4hrs 40 minutes which is only 10 minutes longer than anticipated round, so nothing we could do and group had 3 holes clear in front of them but never waved us through and never saw a ranger to let us through. Ah well, BUT, course was great and well worth the price and starter and staff were excellent as well.
Nice interesting layout
Overall good experience. Staff while friendly was not prepared to great golfers and help thru process getting this set up for their tee time. The link between golf now and the course was not working. They did not have my reservation that was made thru golf now. I had to show proof that I paid. So my tee time was already booked, thus took longer to get the round going. Staff had issues getting enough carts with GPS, again they were friendly but lacked organization. Not sure worth paying full price, I get better service at a local public course.
