Not worth full retail.
Got a hot deal on Golf Now so my two sons and I played on a Monday. Play was slow with a 9:50 tee time. Course was fully booked from my understanding. Lots of funky holes. Back to back par fives on the front where you can't hit driver and the layout is set up for three shots. Humps in middle of greens. Lots of stuff you can't see until you play the hole...course knowledge is key.
GPS on the carts, grill house in the middle of the course so lots of opportunity to spend money on alcohol..hey it's a casino course. Greens were good and conditions were great as well.
If we hadn't shopped for the hot deal I would have been very disappointed. If it's free because you are a gambler, enjoy it.
Good deal from Golf Now!
Played because I got a great deal on golf now. I did another review today and for this I will do the same. It’s a great old course that had some holes changed and others massaged few years ago. Would I pay $140 to play it. No. But if you get a deal then it’s worth it. I was fortunate to have met a great guy who’s been a member before Mohegan bought it and guided me through my round with him. There are some straight forward holes and some challenging holes with some blind shots. Greens were quick and true and it was fun to putt on them. I look forward to playing it again soon.
Solid country club-turned-casino golf
Mohegan Sun is a bit of a hodgepodge, owing to its recent history. The course dates back to the 60s, but when the tribe bought it for the benefit of its resort guests and members a decade ago, architect Robert O'Neil updated the bunkering into a more rugged aesthetic, but he also built a few new holes, which are a bit different in style the rest of the course. The greens on these newer holes are a bit lumpier than the back-to-front Cornish ones, but overall the course is worth playing for its pleasant parkland setting and the excellent conditions. Just be careful and err on the side of safety on the somewhat awkward 6th and 7th.
Wow!!
What a great experience!!
Tee to green course was in exceptional shape.
Staff was great.
Suggestion: they need to revisit the bar/grill. Some quality issues with food served.
Overall.... a treat to play.... we will be back soon.
Great round-fast but consistent greens
Paid $40 for a hot deal round. Had great weather. Free water and a beverage/food cart was provided. Greens were fast and sloping. Pace was just over 5 hours. Did not see a ranger all day. This course is well worth the price we paid. Carts had gps.
Great course
Enjoy the round very much. Course was in great shape. Pace of play was great.
great track
group in front of us was 4some with 2 players and 2 who probably never played golf before. The were fine until the alcohol kicked in around 7th hole. The ground to a halt and last 5 holes took 2 hours. However, still finished in a absolutely crappy 4hrs 40 minutes which is only 10 minutes longer than anticipated round, so nothing we could do and group had 3 holes clear in front of them but never waved us through and never saw a ranger to let us through. Ah well, BUT, course was great and well worth the price and starter and staff were excellent as well.
Nice interesting layout
Overall good experience. Staff while friendly was not prepared to great golfers and help thru process getting this set up for their tee time. The link between golf now and the course was not working. They did not have my reservation that was made thru golf now. I had to show proof that I paid. So my tee time was already booked, thus took longer to get the round going. Staff had issues getting enough carts with GPS, again they were friendly but lacked organization. Not sure worth paying full price, I get better service at a local public course.
Nice Conditions, terrible layout
Overall great conditions. No drinking water on course on a hot day. They use to provide a cooler with water, not anymore
Great day of golf!!
Except for the slow pace of play the day was perfect !
Huge greens with very few “straight” putts!
Next time I’ll know to cut the corner on hole 6!
Observation... “Handicap golfers” behind us actually drove their cart onto the green. (Really?????). They were on the apron many times and one time I saw both tires on the green.
You need a riding marshal for pace and the aforementioned handicapped golfers.
I will be back !!!
Nice course for $40
conditions for a public course were quite good..greens were moderately fast which is probably a good thing given the slope of the greens..played on a very windy day which did not help the pace of play..lots of foursomes from the Casino..not the quickest players..the course is pretty much in the greens..need to be precise on the approach shots..nothing that was not fair..not a fan of the par 5 s. #6 especially..biggest complaint was lack of yardages on lay up shots..had no idea on # 5,6,11 and 13 .as many first time players it would be a help
In general enjoyed the round and would play again at $40..00..the full price of $140.00 ..not so much..lol..but seems a lot of
People were paying it..
Great course
Saturday deal because of the weather. Rain did fall. Course is fine with light rain. Awesome layout and will definitely try to play occasionally. If you have the opportunity play here. Not too tricky and worth the price to play.
Nice course
Beautiful course it was in good shape for this early in the season. Fairways and greens were very nice. It was challenging but fun.
Very playable
Went as a single and went out with some guys that had played the course before. Wide fairways and very open. The greens were the course defenders. A lot of slope and break. Very fast. Would not pay the in season rate of $140.00 but with a golf now hot deal it was well worth the trip.
Very Challenging Course
This is my 2nd review of this course, having played it about 8 times now. The layout is great and conditions are very good, however don't expect to score well unless you bring your A game. The rough is very deep around the greens, the greens are very fast, and the slopes of the greens are the most difficult I've ever seen (the 3rd hole is unreasonable; it's extremely difficult just to keep a putt on the green; needs to be fixed). In my past 3 rounds, I've seen my colleagues hit at least 5 putts off of the greens. It's not uncommon to have your 2nd putt be longer than your first. I'm an exceptional putter and I had 41 putts in a round back in August. I shot 87 here last week and felt like it would have been 77 on most courses. That said, I highly recommend it. Some of my playing partners 'fluff the ball' in the rough to make it manageable. If you're a high-handicapper you might want to consider it :)
Golf in Baltic
Lot's of work being done here. Course has shaped up very nicely. Staff is great! Course has some challenging as well as getable holes to play. Do select the proper T to align with your experience and you will have a great time here. They have a range, it is small and irons only for the most part or you'll bean golfers on the 2nd hole. The lobster roll in the lounge is great! They always have some good craft beers on tap too. It's a little out of the way but with the work being done and the course getting better and better, it is worth the trip.
I've found that driver is fine on the range for most players. I typically hit my driver 240 - 260 and rarely trickle off past the end of the range. You must hit your driver very well :)
