Richter Park Golf Course
About
Situated at the heart of Fairfield County, Richter Park Golf Course is situated along the West Lake Reservoir. The course has been ranked among not only the top ten golf courses in Connecticut but also as one of the top 25 public courses in the country. The course sprawls across more than 180 acres of gently rolling hills. Water has a prominent presence throughout, with the Reservoir bordering seven holes on the front nine and water hazards coming into play on a total of 14 holes. In addition to the water, there are a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic, which can make it a tough golf course to play your first time. Be prepared for a few blind shots. Richter Park's signature hole, the par-5 12th, is bordered by Boggs Pond. Your third shot will be over water to a bunkered green.

A nice track
Great setting. Teed off at 720 am and was done in 3.5 hours. Played white tees, not that difficult. Some quirky holes but overall a nice, gentle layout. Don’t need driver on most of the par 4s. Conditions were very decent especially given amount of play. A tier 1 muni but not sure it’s in the elite muni category.
Richter Park - Sadly not what is once was
Poor up-keep overall. Over-grown, very slow and bumpy greens, quite a few greens with severe bare areas. Very firm and compacted bunkers - bunker edges in terrible shape. Cart paths badly eroded in places.
First Class
Absolutely a beautiful public track. Front nine crisscrosses over lakes with spectacular views. Back nine is more hilly and wooded. Staff is always friendly and willing to accommodate if possible. My town course seems to have lots of people who can't play, take forever, and hit at you fairly often mostly because they have no idea where the ball is going. The cliental at Richter are more polite and golf savvy which makes for a nice round of golf.
Pace of play
The pace of play was very poor. It took us nearly three hours to play nine holes. My son and I were in a cart and placed with a third person who was walking. There was a group of eight players together two groups ahead of us. The groups were stacked on top of each other with not enough time between tee times. The play was not regulated appropriately.
This is a very nice course and well maintained. It is normally a fun course to play, but was very frustrating to have sat more than played during our round. We payed to play 18 and barely got the 9 holes in before dark.
Cant beat it for the price
Awesome shape for how much play it gets. Super affordable. Nice views along the water
Richter Sunday Round
It was a perfect day for golf. It was a little slow pace in front 9, but were able to enjoy the great views and relax in the shade. The park rangers apologized for the pace and offered credit for 9, if wanted to come back. The course was in good shape and had some challenging holes for an average golfer. Had a good pace on the back and got in a nice flow.
Would recommend to all golfers.
One of the best municipal golf courses north of NYC. Great layout with views of reservoir. Friendly, helpful staff.
Disappointed
Have played this course 4 or 5 times, have always enjoyed the scenery and the layout. Today though I was pretty surprised by the shape the course was in, especially the greens. Greens played very uneven and there were many ball marks, diseased areas etc. Areas of a few fairways were in bad shape too. I don’t think I’ll play this course anytime soon, unless they fix these issues.
