Hot day at East Hartford
The course was in nice shape considering the recent weather. Greens rolled nice and fairways were green. Debbie ( happy birthday) is super nice.
Quick 18
Played Friday walked 18 played in foursome we finished in 3 1/2hrs played moved right along
Good Value
East Hartford’s golf course is set in a quiet neighborhood in the northeast corner of town, about a mile off Burnside Avenue (Rt. 44). Its layout offers a mix of short and longer par-4s, six doglegs, two ponds that are in play, strong and deep greenside bunkering, moderately wide fairways as a rule, and some hilly terrain changes on the west end. The par-3’s run moderately long, but the trio of par-5’s hold the most strategic interest, given that they are relatively long, sometimes crossed by streams, and feature varied hazards around their greens. Eighteen is the best of these, closing the round on a raised green guarded by four traps set to the front and left side. The course balances, as well, a range of green shapes (some very long), both uphill and downhill holes, and an open, parkland style that still has a few tight driving holes where position off the tee becomes critical.
Conditioning disappointed today, largely due to dry recent weather conditions. The firm greens tend to roll out excessively on downslopes, and to an extreme on the third, where straight uphill putts would roll up and then backwards, and all of our downhill putts some seventy feet down and off the green. Yes, they were hit very softly. I noticed that on the twelfth green, into which golfers hit wedges, there were zero ball marks. Fairways were patchy, tees decent, roughs okay. The other greater-Hartford area courses I played this week were in better shape. It is early spring, and EHGC should round into shape before long.
Pace of play was on the slow side, yet walking this course, set–as it is–in the Connecticut River Valley, was easy. The course, a good value, was in very good condition when I played here early last summer, so I’ll try it again in a month or so.

Confused
The course is nice, and the play is nice too.
However in my opinion and experience some of the holes were a nightmare to find the next one. They don’t have signs that are clear enough to get to the next hole. Other than that I enjoyed playing there
Better than Expected
For the price ($23/walk18) the course was in nicer shape than I expected. Some areas of real wetness that made approach shots difficult. One bunker was in good condition and one (9th hole I think) was more like clay. The two people I walked with were great and I think we got around in about 4 hours (on a Friday). A couple of switchback holes, particularly at the end of the back 9, that I don't really like.
Golf in February.
Surprisingly nice course conditions for a mid February round. Very walkable course, and a great value.
