Poor pace of play with 3 hour 9 hole round
I was disappointed with the pace of play during my nine hole round on a recent Saturday afternoon. Fairchild Wheeler is a Course I’ve played many times.
There were no Rangers to be seen to monitor and make sure pace of play was being kept. As a woman I’m very conscientious of pace of play and was astonished at how long it took foursomes of men to finish a hole Lots of time looking for lost balls or hitting mulligans etc. many groups spent many minutes waiting to tee off. Again staff needed to monitor pace of play during the course. A 3-hour 9 hole round is too long.
THE WHEEL RED
The wheel is always fun to play. Considering it's a 36 hole facility, many flock there for ease o get on and play.
Having played both courses over the last 20 years, do not expect country club conditions. The greens are slower than many other area courses. But overall for a public track it's fun and great value.
Punched Greens
Would love it if they told me the greens looked like Swiss cheese before I payed full price. Overall good value (normally).
One nice starter, one who needs to chill out
Fairchild Wheeler
This course is my home course. Easy for me to get tee times at, and close by. I always have a good time playing this track. The “hilly” course creates some fun challenges. The pro-shop staff is always very friendly and eager to help. The only downfall about this place are the starters. The two older gentlemen constantly give golfers a hard time. I won’t bore you with details nor do I intend to pash these two gents, but, they are the courses biggest pitfalls.
Red course is decent, worth the $. Conditions OK
Decent muni course. Starters can be a bit rude. Pro shop girls and diner staff are fine. I’ve played a few times but probably won’t again, unless meeting friends in the middle. Ive played both the red course (red today as well) but prefer the black (for reasons below).
Overall a rather boring layout. No real doglegs or anything interesting, just up/down with weird layups and back and forth. Greens are very very slow and don’t roll pure. I’d give the greens a 4/10 for muni courses. Fairways are in OK shape. Tee boxes a bit rough but that’s expected for muni.
Red Course at the Wheel
Beautiful set of par 3's par4's an par5's. Only 4 hilly holes but rest of red course gives a nice links feel! Tee boxes and fairways were well maintained. Greens were moderate speed. Sand traps were redone and in good shape. Players can use driver on all par 4's and par5's. It has a nice layout. I would recommend this course.
