Very fun course
Very well layed out course. Enjoyed playing it with excellent scenery. Not as well maintained as a resort course, but far superior in layout and playability. Staff was great, especially the starter. Gave me a few tips that helped out. Driving range is servicable along with the practice green. My only real complaint was the sand traps and cart paths. Do not drive fast on the cart paths, they are so bad they'll rattle your fillings loose. Sand traps were absolutely terrible. It was like hitting off of hard barren dirt. I don't think they've been raked or had sand added in years. For the 30 dollars I paid it was a bargain. Will definitely play this course again.
Aging Course Needs TLC
Makaha CC is an older course with a somewhat challenging layout. Although the fairways are in good condition the greens are quite inconsistent and in need of renovation. The staff is top rate and very friendly.
Great Hawaii value
Somewhat hilly but made for great views of the mountains, valley and ocean. Not very long but the greens very tricky to read. Friendly staff including the cats and chickens.
Simply Great
I did book a tee-off at 0700 am, I was alone, watching the sunrise.
The course is located in a wonderful surrounding, and is a great shape.
I truly did enjoy.
Good value
Course was priced pretty well for Hawaii and the course was in really nice shape.
Greens were slower then expected, but if you had a downhill put they ran...
Carts were kind of rough as are the cart paths.
Overall a really great course for the money and a nice relaxing round - I would play it again - good value
Makaha
Overall the experience of the golf course is good. The layout is nice but the greens are not as good. But I guess in Hawaii you have to pay top dollars to go to an exclusive course to experience a world class hold course. Otherwise be ready to be surprised. The thing is that they gave us defective carts. No brakes on one of them and gave up on the last hole.
Great course
Very nice course. Some says its on the short side but suits my game. The drive was long from the city but definitely worth it
It's nothing like a Hawaiian resort golf course
Worst golf course in the island of Oahu.
Overpriced for a municipal course.
It's nothing like a typical Hawaiian resort golf course .
Nice course good value
Fun course with enough interest. Well maintained and excellent value. Not much to eat or drink.
Nice Course
Played this course on the recommendation of a friend who grew up in Hawaii. Nice course, well priced for the area.
Great value. Great Hawaii golf experience.
Getting to Makaha is the beginning of a really nice golf experience. Coming from the Pearl Harbor area, much of the drive is right next to the coast. Traffic is always an issue in Honolulu but we made it to the course from Turtle Bay on the North Shore in about an hour and 1/2.
When you arrive at the course, you may be taken aback by the facilities which appear pretty run down, because well, they are pretty run down. No restaurant and a barely functioning restroom by the cart barn. The staff was very nice and seemed to enjoy their jobs.
The course itself is in excellent condition, especially the greens and tees. The landscape is constantly rolling with every hole having either an elevated tee, green or both. Throughout your round you are treated to views of either the ocean or the stunning mountains surrounding the course. We played from the back tees at 6200 which was a bit shorter than what we might normally play. Real long hitters might be left wanting although accuracy does pay a premium on most holes.
We loved the course, the setting and the old school vibe of the place. A tremendous value at less than $100.
Was good the first time we played it again.
First time playing this course and it was so much fun my friend and I went back played it again later in the week. Super friendly staff and the course was in perfect condition. Would recomend this course for anyone looking for good value and great playability.
deferred maintenance
This course needs work. It is picturesque with interesting layout, but suffers from neglect. Also, the greens were hopelessly slow due to recent perforation and sanding. The cart paths were pocked with chuck holes, roots and gaps. Play was tediously slow. On the upside, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the greens fee is reasonable.
Aeration, oh well
My first visit to Makaha. Great deal from Golfnow.com. Very long drive from town but the course is very nice and well maintained . I knew they were aerating but didn't expect so much sand on the greens. Cost me at least 5 strokes putting. But a very pleasant round on a very nice course, especially for an old duffer like me. I will return.
Great Escape
Great views in all directions very challenging course in great condition tricky greens you will get ur money's worth
Makaha
The golf course was a good value. Fairways were thin ion some holes. Greens rolled well but appearance was fair.
Everything we expected
Have always wanted to play this course when in Hawaii, and we were not disappointed. The course was in good shape . The par 3s were fun and each hole presented enough challenge. The course was busy, but the pace was very slow which takes away from your rhythm.
very scenic course
It is very hard to concentrate on golf with all of the beautiful scenery.
A course that is picturesque and challenging
Although somewhat out of the way, this course rivals virtually any "resort" course, but at a much more reasonable cost. The course was very well maintained and staffed by a polite, helpful, and friendly staff (with maybe the exception of the snack bar staff that are somewhat aloof). We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are going back two days later. It is in a beautiful setting with challenging, yet fair holes.
A Hidden Gem!
We loved this course. It is beautiful with great views. We came back twice more because it is such a great value. We feel so lucky to golf in Hawaii at such reasonable rates!
