Nice views all along course Photo submitted by Devin1073124 on 04/27/2013
Pleasantly surprised. An early morning rain slowed down the fairways, but quickly dried out Some tough dog legs required some shot shaping.
We beat the the tour groups & played with some locals. Great views of the water & hills surrounding the course. Dried out quickly after an early morning rain & speeded up the greens. Thinking about playing it again this week.
Challenging greens
Unpredictable greens. Watch a birdie turn into a double!
Interesting, well maintained, great scenic views.
The course is an hour's drive from Waikiki but worth the trip. It is well maintained, interesting to play and has some fantastic views of the ocean and surrounding hills. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Have played twice and plan to play there again soon. Highly recommended. The only issue I had with the course is that the greens could have been faster.
Nice course
I hadn't ventured to this side of the island before. Was well worth the drive. The course is nestled in the valley, and nice views at almost every hole. This is great course, and pretty forgiving, while still offering challenging shots. I was golfing single, and met up with a local couple behind me. The wife dropped off at 9, and me and Joe played the back. Great conversation with a local who lived the Makaha life style. Golf & Surf. How cool is that?
This course is a lot of fun and a great value for the islands.
My son and I played and had a wonderful time. The course is well maintained and in very good shape. It is not too difficult but there are some challenging holes. The views are beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A fantastic value for the islands. It did get a bit windy in the afternoon but not bad. Over all it was a great day playing golf in Hawaii. I would highly recommend playing there. It is worth the drive. Make sure you give yourself enough time to get there. There are a lot of traffic lights from Ko Olina on.
Makaha Valley Country Club
Cart paths were very old and rough, however, very beautiful setting, and for the most part, in good condition. Be prepared for 3 putt greens! It’s the craziest thing ... probably because the course was right along the base of the mountains. Most of the greens on the back 9 looked like they were severely sloped one way, but actually broke the opposite. Tough day on the greens for everyone! Worth the hour drive from Kailua.
Our favorite course
Makaha CC is our favorite course on our annual visit to Oahu. It is well worth the one hour drive from Honolulu to the course. The course is well maintained, friendly courteous staff and reasonably priced. Views of the ocean from every fairway.
FRIENDLY STAFF AND NICE GREENS
FRIENDLY STAFF. NICE GREENS. COURSE CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED.FACILITIES CLEAN.
Outstanding views and design. Really fun except for slow play.
Very friendly staff, beautiful ocean and mountain views, good condition, just difficult to make it interesting, 6,000 yards is perfect for me, Hawaiian weather was perfect as usual. The only fly in the ointment was play required nearly five hours. We were allowed to drive cart to our car to load and unload our clubs.
Worth the drive
This course is about an hour away from Waikiki. Luckily we booked with HiGolfGuide, and they were able to give us free transportation. The course wasn't crowded at all, and we enjoyed a very relaxing round. The greens could use a little bit of help, and the fairways were about average. Nice views of the ocean. The drive out there was scenic too. Well worth the drive and a great value.
Beautiful setting, greens a little difficult to read.
It is in a secluded valley on the leeward side and the course is mostly ups and downs. The greens have breaks much greater than initially read. Even so shot a 94 and would play again. It is an hour west of Honolulu but worth the drive.
Nice layout and nice view
The condition of the course was not good...it appeared to be very tired. For example cart paths were very old and bumpy. Fairways were weak and greens were just ok. Even though the conditions were not the best I recommended this course because of the layout and it was playable. I looked past the conditions.
Review is for the East Course as the West Course is being renovated. A very average course. Speed of play due to very few groups.
The course is about an hour from the Waikiki area. I chose this course to get away from the touristy type of courses. Course is very scenic. Grass at places is in poor condition. Course is very muddy. Even when the ball rolls on the grass, it gets muddy. Luckily, I was playing for fun and not seriously as you need to "Lift, Clean, Place after just about every fairway shot or drive. This course feels old and that it has had just a little bit more maintenance than is the bare minimum.
This course has some great views and fun course.
It was well worth the drive to the course from Waikiki. It needs some attention on few greens but overall it was a nice course.
Great course for the value!
Great course! It will test your putting skills. At least that's where we lost most of our strokes! Caught up with a 5-some on back nine but pace of play still OK since they were locals. Loved the ocean views from most holes. Unfortunately, my phone battery went dead so no photos to upload
Course was very nice and staff was very friendly. Pace of play was very slow and course was not overly busy.
I would recommend playing the coarse early in the morning befor e the members get out and play. Very nice coarse for the price,
Good Value
Good value and pretty well maintained. however they had just sanded greens which would have been ok with us except that they had discounted their rates because of it and we're actually charging less than we had paid thru Golf Now. Should have known...call the course first, check condition and price, then go to Golf Now and check theirs.
Beautiful course with great views. Not too difficult.
Course was beautiful. Fairways pretty wide and rough was playable. Greens were challenging. Some views were spectacular. The course was not too difficult. I palyed a round the same week at Royal Hawaiian (former Luana Hills) on the windward side where most holes were narrow fairways with no rough just jungle. Hit the fairway or loose a ball. I played this course without loosing a ball and still was a reasonable challenge for me (19 handicap). It was and enjoyable day. Staff was very friendly. I was by myself and the starter allowed me to start on the back to avoid a few groups. If you have only 2 days to play on Oahu, I recommend this course and the Royal Hawaiian as a nice contrast and the fees will not break you.
Have to play if you are on Oahu.
This course will use every club in your bag. The greens were perfect. The Staff are very friendly and will make you feel at home. THE VIEWS ARE BREATH TAKING!!
This one's on my 'replay' list
We've played this course three times now and it's always on our 'replay' list whenever we're on Oahu. We're looking forward to the reopening of the Makaha Resort course!
