Beautiful Mountain Valley Location, nice layout
Makaha Valley Country Club is a very nice course with many unique holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag.. Greens smooth and very fast down grain, slow up hill and into the grain. Fairways are well groomed with good lies.
Oahu West Shore
This is a very nice course in a non-tourist area. Course was in great shape. The Golf Now 1 player rate was terrific for Hawaii $53. $45 for TM RBZ
CLUBS.
Pace was also great. Played 2 balls on most holes because I had the place to myself except for a 3 some that let me play through.
Couldn't be happier, plan to play again before leaving for return home.
Choose better next time
Looking for a hidden gem and this wasn't it. Course condition below average, fairways not manicured at all, greens burned in lots of places. Good variety of holes, but condition soured me all day.
Good course...great potential
I've played Makaha a few times. Of course, the Waianae area is a little suspect but as you head up to the course it gets bettter. The best part about the course is that it has a great variety of holes--none are the same, very fun. All the fairways are maintained decently, but the fairways could be cut better. Beware of the cart paths, they have more pot holes than H1. I have a 10 HCP. The winds, rough and undulating greens brings its challenges.
For the money, you can't get a better view of the valley and ocean. No doubt, keep it on your list of must-plays on Oahu.
Great scienery, very playable, especially weekday.
Good greens, very playable, especially weekday round. Busy early weekend.
The North Shore of Oahu
I have played he many times and the course is always fun. The layout is very challenging and the tees/fairways/greens are all pretty well maintained. My only complaint about the conditions is that when cruising on the paved cart paths, it feels like I'm doing a test run for Range Rover! C'mon Kapolei golf, put some more money into this gem of a course. Otherwise, this course is fun, fast, and a fair test of golf for all levels if you pick the right tees.
This is a hidden gem!!
I came to this course as a visitor to Hawaii. Played at Turtle Bay Palmer course yesterday and was so disappointed in the quality of golf in Hawaii. Golf at Makaha however changed my opinion again! This course is extremely scenic - even though it was a 5 hr round (and I was playing single) - it was a holiday, otherwise the starter said usually a 3 hour round - it was still extremely enjoyable. Dramatic ocean and mountain view. 300 yard plays like 360 yards - very challenging. I LOVE THIS COURSE!
Great course for the $$
Considering we're talking about Hawaii golf, Makaha Valley is a great bargain, especially the $49 rate thru GolfNow. Course is in reasonable condition, greens were good. Not a real huge challenge, but some interesting holes. Cart paths in dire need of repair and we resorted to driving on the grass instead. Staff was very friendly, but the clubhouse was closed when we got in a little after 3pm.
Avoid the high priced courses
It's about 30 minutes from Ko Olina, but easy to find and very welcoming!
The course is mostly narrow and typical of resort courses of years ago. The greens are average, but they are fighting an odd growth--I expect they will improve.
Most of the holes are relatively short for their par. The greens can be tough, depending on the pin placement.
A fun experience, at less than half the cost of the more well known courses.
gorgeous scenery. great views of both the ocean & the mountains.
Had to get accustomed to all putts and even balls in the fairway going toward the ocean even when it looked otherwise. Greens were a bit bumpy and tough to read. All-in-all a great golfing experience.
Magic Makaha
Play this course whenever I'm on Oahu. Great value for the my money. Course is well maintained. Greens can be tricky fun!
Nice course for the money.
Makaha Valley CC was the first course we played on our recent trip to Hawaii. It was a nice course with some beautiful views of the ocean in the distance. There were a lot of locals playing the day we played. For the discounted price we payed on GolfNow, I was very happy. It is not the pristine course you would expect in Hawaii, but compared to my course back home it was a gem.
Great value, beautiful vistas, interesting holes
This course was great! The value is outstanding. I paid anywhere from $56-75 on GolfNow. No other comparable course I found on Oahu comes close to that. The course was in great shape, with greens breaking towards the ocean as I read and was told many times. The pro shop has reasonable prices and I don't think I've ever had better pancakes than in their clubhouse.
Good value
Good value for visitor rates and quality of the course. Beautiful course with great views of the ocean on some of he holes. Will play again on my next visit to Oahu.
Cart paths definitely need repairs; Tee boxes okay, slopes increase challenges; greens nice but the two distinct types of grasses affect ball speed
Wide open fairways but water, bunkers, and bushes come into play on certain holes. Only learned after we finished play from one of the locals that all greens slope down the valley towards the big black rock at the sea shore. The sloped mountains that are on both sides of the valley as well as the sloped course create optical illusions on the greens making reading the greens difficult on some of the holes.
Plumerias are nice since the ocean is a mile away.
The not so good first. 1) carts need to be updated or get new batteries. 2) the cart paths need to be re-paved. Now the good. 1) greens putted true and were quick. 2) you keep it on the fairway, or just off, and you have a chance for a good score. 3) not a hard course and the mountain scenery was very nice.
Nice layout
Play was slowed by group in front playing multiple balls and giving "lessons" to beginner golfer(s)
Nice golf course
The starter was very helpful. Explained conditions well, very cordial.
Long drive, but worth it
Makaha is a long way from Waikiki but the drive is well worth it. Makaha is very well maintained.
The greens putt true, the fairways are well groomed and the tees good. Spectacular views over the ocean are featured on many holes.
Snack shop sandwiches can be missed, though.
Very nice course, quite challenging for beginners, but excellent greens and beautiful scenery
The course is great, it is worth the drive from Waikiki.
