Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Eight, from behind: A superb par-three. On the other side of the mounds are large bunkers to catch weak approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Mid April 2014
Front 9 slow, back 9 picked up. Fast greens! Tough pin placements! Best quality course out of 3 outings since beginning of April.
traditional style golf course in rural setting
Very early spring conditions, but very playable and enjoyable, only gripe would be that there was no drinking water on the course and it was a warm day. Most golfers would enjoy this course and the restaurant has very good food, nice comfortable space and great outdoor patio!
This is what golf should be
Blackledge has 36 holes. We played Gilead Highlands. Blue tees 6129y. Great condition, impressive considering Connecticut's wicked and prolonged winter. Staff friendly and on point. Very good prices on accessories. Good food. Eastern ct and So. RI. Have many good courses but Blackledge is still with the drive.
Excellent course for the money
Blackledge has always been an excellent experience. Fair pricing, well maintained and some great holes!
Pace of play
Pace of play here was extremely slow, also there are no rangers out on the course to keep things moving. Group in front of us was all over the place, and the group in front of them was 2 holes ahead. This also caused a huge back up behind our group. I would highly recommend getting a ranger out on the course to keep up the pace of play.
nice quick round
course in good condition, leaves cleaned up, green in good shape
this course has a wonderful layout.
Fairways are in great shape. Greens are fast and consistent. I highly recommend it. Very challenging. You have to play for your next shot. A lot of fun.
Beautiful course with challenging holes. Fun to play.
Enjoyed the round on a perfect fall afternoon with gorgeous foliage. The greens had been aeratted but not impossible to play. Would definitely return.
Best deal ever for $21.00 w/a cart!
A hidden gem. I live in Mass and never played this course. What a great surprise. The clubhouse is pretty basic and doesn't have a driving range. The pro shop person was very helpful and accommodating as I had booked a tee time on their other course but it had just been aerated. The attendant got us right on the other course. The course was in great shape all around. The staff was doing a great job of keeping up w/the falling leaves. We played from the back tees and found the layout to be a good challenge but not overbearing. Would go back again if this was closer to where I live!
No food service during the week in mid October.
Had I known no food service was available, I would have eaten before playing, or more likely booked somewhere else.
Nice course, good condition, friendly staff
Course is in great shape, and greens were firm and fast. Fairways and tee areas were both in excellent shape as well. Considering we had an early (8:07) tee time, it was a little slow. It was a Fast Play promotion, but the group two or three in front of us really backed things up..we had a two group back up on the tenth tee, but they seemed to move along better after that. Pace of play was actually 4:30.
Had fun in spite of the weather
Played this course on Sunday in the pouring rain. The course was in pretty good shape considering the weather. We did ask if there would be a discount due to the rain but had to pay the price we had agreed to.
Interesting layout.
Weather was great; enjoyable round of golf. Well go baclk later in the fall.
Good amenities and value for challenging course, signage and greens could be improved
Overall, the course was nice layout and fairways, and greens putted smooth. mixture of straight away holes, holes with doglegs, and elevation changes which means something for all levels of golfer, but likely not good for true begiiner as may be discouraging. Greens were hard with chipping and approach shots diificult to gauge receptiveness And may roll half length of green. If its your first time to the course, the signage (ie larger with arrows) could be improved for the locations of bar/rrestaurant, golF equipment shop, and check in, if a golf cart attendant is busy. Once you have your bearings, however, the course layout and amenities are good and, Food from the bar can be ordered from the nineth hole and was excellant. given the course challenges (which is good), expect a round approaching 5 hours (which may not be good). Overall, good value and challenging.
Great Value
I really enjoyed the layout, course has a great mix of holes. Most holes require that you be accurate off the tee, there are a few holes on the back nine that give you a bit more room, however i would say the course is moderately narrow. Paid $45 with cart, for that price the conditions were great. Greens were smooth and moderately fast and the bunkers were well maintained. One of the best bangs for your buck in the hartford area in my opinion.
Super Course
No Tee Boxes right behind the Greens. Lots of room between the Greens and next Tee box. Marked very well. Couple of Bunkers that could have used attention. A top 5 course in CT for the money. Made another Tee time for tomorrow.
Great course, challenging and fun.
We played the Anderson's Glen Course, which is in great shape. All tee boxes are well maintained, fairways are smooth with a few small spot under repair, and all greens are smooth and consistent. We played several courses in the Hartford and New Haven area that offer good deals. This one is the most impressive. Will definitely play again and would recommend to friends.
Great course, but slow play
I've golfed Blackledge several times and really enjoy the golf course. The conditions are well kept and the greens are in better shape than most. I also play in a league on Wed nights at Blackledge. The biggest problem this course faces is the constant slow play. I know it's a problem during its league play, but I was very discouraged about the 5+ hours of play yesterday. Management has been notified several times about the slow play over the year and they consistently do nothing about it. They seem to only care about the money coming in and not the etiquette part of the game of golf. If Blackledge management can get their act together and address this significant issue, my overall rating and outlook for this course will increase significantly.
nice place
Good course, challenging from the tips, fairways and greens well kept, few bare spots in the rough. Overall worth playing. I will go back...
