Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
About
Blackledge Country Club is home to two championship golf courses that are both known as some of the best golf in the greater Hartford area. Opened in 1963, Anderson Glen is known as the "Old Course" while Gilead Highlands, opened in 2000, is known as the "New Course." The older course has a more traditional layout but it is just as challenging. The golf course sprawls across acres of lush countryside, providing plenty of trees and water hazards. There are some elevation changes that can cause uneven lies as well as some undulation in the greens and fairways. The 13th is a particularly notable par 3 for its scenery but also its level of difficulty. Although the downhill tee shot will only require a short iron there is trouble all around in the form of protective bunkers and a pond.

The second hole’s bold right side bunker might snag a long hitter’s rightward-erring drive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Hole two, again (seen from behind green): It is cast in the mold of classic short par-4. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The long, par-5 fourth has a wealth of particularly troublesome hazards, stretching all the way from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

Set upon a small plateau, green six is also narrow, so landing on it in regulation calls for a very clean iron shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

The seventh’s deviously sloped green is sided by deep bunkers, serving to punish wayward approaches. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/13/2020

2nd Hole: A 'routine' downhill par-4, but far from a pushover. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

The third: A long hole that is also long on trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Five, looking back on hole: challenging, uphill 374-yard four-par. (Greenside bunkers out of view from this angle). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/15/2020

Nice course poor customer service
My buddy and I prepaid for a round at the course online we arrived a little early and the owner had told us we had to wait till our tee time to tee off, we were very understanding, but he went out of his way to call the pro shop and make sure we were not allowed out early. The only reason I'm writing this review is bc we chipped and putted for 45 mins to a hour and not a single group teed off, until five mins before we went off, we waited on the three some Infront of us on every single hole for about 5-7 minutes, just don't understand why we were not allowed to tee off before this group to keep the pace of play up. All in all course was okay and would return if not for the questionable decision to not let us out.
Left Ray Cook Chipper on Course
I left a Ray Cook chipper on the back 9. Still looking for it to be returned.

Best Around
I started playing at Blackledge back in 1970 and have continued to play here. The last 18 hole expansion and its integration with the original course was accomplished extremely well making it a extremely great course to play. The course is well maintained and the staff is both Professional and Courteous. I would highly recommend playing this course to anyone.
Great courses!
I have been playing golf for about 20 years and have played on a good number of golf courses and I think Gilead Highlands is like a walk in the park! It's a great and well kept golf course that is a dream to play on. The greens ring true and have been well maintained. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating.
Anderson Glen course is longer and more challenging but is as equal in fun to play, with well maintained greens.
3.5 hour 18 hole round
Course in generally good shape. Greens a little slow, but well maintained and consistent. 3.5 hours to play 18 on a Sunday afternoon.
best in the area
great condition - majority of holes interesting and fun to play
Excellent Experience
I have been around the country and seen a lot of great golf courses. Blackledge CC provides great playing conditions and a beautiful layout. The prices are very reasonable and the staff was very welcoming. I would highly recommend coming to Blackledge to play for a fun and enjoyable round of golf.
This course has great features!!
I've been playing golf at Blackledge Country Club for over 12 years. I just love this course!! The staff is extremely helpful and very friendly too!! The golf course is always well-kept and the restaurant offers great food! I would highly recommend playing this course.
Public course equal to any private club
Course was in excellent condition, staff was very helpful and cart girls were very friendly. Would highly recommend playing all 36 holes. Each hole is unique and picturesque.
Great experience
Having played many golf courses in the area the best value and condition of corse is here . Very friendly staff and food has greatly improved iover the last couple years . With 36 holes and good variety have nothing but great things to say .
Love this place!
36 Holes with wonderful service.
I have been playing at Blackledge in a golf league for 15 years.
Held a charity golf tournament 8 years in a row at Blackledge that went off each time without any problems at all.
The staff at Blackledge is always friendly and helpful making me always want to come back.
The course is challenging and well maintained, with wonderful views. Walking or riding it's your choice both courses have great tracks. I highly recommend playing at Blackledge and grab a bite at theTavern.
You'll want to come back!
Awesome
Absolutely love this course. Tees, fairways and greens all in excellent condition. Club house was inviting and food was delicious. I would highly recommend playing this course.
Keeps getting better and better
I have been playing at Blackledge my entire life. It is where I first picked up a club and where I really learned how to play the game. I have seen it change quite a bit over the years, adding on an additional clubhouse and 18 holes on the Gilead side. I must say, for all the time that I have been playing this course it has never looked better. The new superintendents have been constantly tweaking the course to make it better; adding bunkers on certain holes to make you have to play more technical shots, removing trees to allow for better sunlight to the greens, installing better drainage systems to improve the playability of the course shortly after it rains. The attention to little details like these is what really sets Blackledge apart from other courses in the area.
Not only has the course experienced changes for the better, so has the clubhouse. The restaurant/lounge area has also gone through quite the evolution over the years, transitioning from a bar where you could get a hot dog if you were hungry to a restaurant thats worth the sit down. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and large portioned, and the layout of the restaurant has drastically improved. Worth noting, in the winter seasons they set up golf simulators in their banquet hall (attached to the restaurant) so that you can still get you golf fix in the doldrums of a cold CT winter. The staff is attentive and friendly, and you can tell that the overall feel is one of a family setting, where everyone takes pride in the work they do.
Overall I see nothing but good things for Blackledge, they continue to get better and better, and is a golfers paradise located in the sticks outside of Hartford. I have heard rumors that they might be adding in a driving range which would bring the whole complex to the next level, and really make Blackledge the premier golfing mecca for any CT golfer. I look forward to playing here for years to come and seeing how the course continues to evolve!
Blackledge Country Club
Blackledge Country Club is a great all around Golf Facility located in the countryside of Hebron Connecticut about 15 -20 min east of Hartford.
I played both 18 hole golf courses and found them to be in great shape and challenging. The Anderson Glen course is truly a championship venue that can be a lot of fun when played from the correct tee boxes. It can humble even the best players.
Gilead Highlands is a tale of two nine. The front side is well framed with trees, easy to walk and if you put the ball in a good position you can card a good score. The backside is more challenging so bring your "A" game. Lots of hills and uneven ground will make ya think on every shot. You may want to take a cart on the back :o)
I found both courses in great shape, a good challenge. After the round it was also good to relax in the restaurant, have some food from a full bar menu and a beer(s) while you watch golf / sports on the TV of your choice in the bar and enjoy the day with your friends.
Love this back 9.
This course has something for everyone. I am a walk and carry player. This a a great walking course. Tee boxes are not on top of the previous green but also not a hike to get to. The front 9 is good for beginners as there are not a lot of hazards. The back 9 is both picturesque and challenging. I play about 60 rounds per year and play away often. Both Blackledge courses are exceptional public courses. Conditions are consistently above average and after the round they have a very nice restaurant to enjoy a sandwich and drink. This 36 hole complex is one of my favorite spots in CT.
HEBRON 16

Blackledge is the best in the area
I play Blackledge several times a week. My league plays there. Reading the last review I have consistently had a different experience. We rotate through the 4 9’s there, there are always carts and an abundance of cart boys shuttling, cleaning, maintaining carts esp on weekends. They often drive through the parking lot and ask if you need a pick up and ride somewhere – could they assist…. I’ve never seen a cart in bad shape. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you. This early in the season I am not surprised that women’s gloves weren’t in stock. I’m a woman and experience this frequently at other courses I play. We’re the minority unfortunately, so I get it and thus have set my expectations as such. I have experienced inconvenienced parking when they have had a big tournament during the day and my league goes out after. Hey that’s the nature of the beast being a great golf course and everyone want to have their tournament there and play there. They’re nationally ranked – you gotta expect it. And in that light, I haven’t experienced a decline in services or amenities as a result either. Blackledge holds both their courses to the highest standards and are the only one around that I see continually investing in their course. Its kept me coming back for 15 years. I highly recommend the Gilead Course. Its my favorite.
Disappointing
Have played here several times and there is always a shortage of carts and often a shortage of parking spaces. If no parking you have to go to their course across the street, get a cart there, and ride it back to Gilead. On this most recent visit there was a "Lot Full" sign up when in fact there were a number of free spaces available. A woman player checking in just ahead of me wished to buy a glove and was told the pro shop doesn't carry women's gloves yet had a large selection of men's gloves on hand. . She wasn't happy. The group ahead of us this day consisted of three men who would not allow the starter to add a fourth player. The single gentleman who was told he would join them and had waited for some time had to drive to the other course in the hopes of getting into a group. They then played painfully slowly the entire round yet no one ever came to address their slow pace. Carts are always at a shortage and this was true once again. We eventually got a cart that was missing a large section of seat cushion. The course itself is nice and scenic but management and amenities are lacking.
Dear Jeanne3921001,
I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience, and will take the necessary steps to try and improve in the areas you mentioned. Blackledge has 144 carts which is more than enough to take care of both courses, however during very busy times sometimes our parking lot at Gilead Highlands gets full, and sometimes we have to move carts from the Anderson's Glen side of the street to the Gilead Highlands side of the street to accommodate high demand. I will use this instance to help train my staff to do this in a more timely manner. I hope you will give us the chance to do better!
Sincerely,

Great Springtime Golf
Thanks to GolfNow.com for making this golf outing available at such a great price. The course and greens were in great shape for this time of year. I can't wait to return once the flowers have bloomed and the trees have filled in. Our foursome had a great day and a much enjoyed round of golf.
I'm sorry for your bad experience but just wanted to let you know how those prepaid times work. Those times are given to GolfNow by the course for them to sell at a discount, and keep the revenue from, in exchange for allowing us to use their service. These "hot deal" times are purposely set for a specific time of day the course considers it's "down time". We try to hold the tee open for players with full price tee times or walk-ons for as long as possible before releasing these "hot deal" times. Imagine if the roles were reversed and you were a full paying customer behind a slow group who was let out early, and who had paid up to 35% less than you had!
