Many fairways at Portland plunge downward on their way to their greens. The first certainly exemplifies this, making for a tricky approach shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/25/2023

The 10th: Short par-4 that can be driven, but that’s a hard risk-reward proposition given what lies behind the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

A commanding hole in the form of a Switchback, twelve is also aesthetically impressive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

Sixteen:one of the inward half’s two excellent par-5s; its green is fortified by a pair of yawning bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

Cornish prefers large bunkers here, often well visible from fairways. This is a brutal uphill 4-par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 05/23/2020

Enjoyed and would like to return
This was a great afternoon and the course conditions allowed us to enjoy the day. The rough was well maintained and allowed a visitor a fair shot when needed. The fairways are in excellent condition as well as the greens - nice work!
Next time I play - I will call the course to ensure my foursome gets the best value.
Better every time
Greens, course conditions better every time I play here!
Great value. Learning how to play a few of the holes :)
Early morning round
Got around in 1:45, course very nice, no heat problems , greens are smooth and true. First off with a cart, love those early AM tee times !
Advice
I wanted to say that overall I had a good time playing the course however I was approached by an employee who was emptying the trash bins at each hole. He stopped and asked me and my buddy if the single guy behind us could play with us to speed things up because he “wanted to go home”. As a manager myself I felt the need to let you know. In my line of work a serious discussion and possible consequences would be had if one of my employees said that to a customer. The reason you remain open is because of us. Now on the golf side of things I understand the need to have a steady pace of play. This was not the case on Sunday. 18 holes took 6 hours to complete. Absolutely ridiculous. Never mind the fact that there was still another group behind the single playing behind me so even if he joined your employee who wanted to go home would still be waiting for the last group. He may need to re-evaluate whether he should working on a golf course seeing as your busiest days tend to be Saturday and Sunday.
Excellent condition
The course was in grrat shape and the pace of play was excellent
Plush
I typically don't play here because of the hilly terrain. I have enough trouble hitting a good shot from a flat lie let alone side hill, downhill, uphill, etc. I got a good price online so gave it a try again after a few years of not playing here. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the great shape the course was in especially the greens. He hasn't played that much golf so he was frustrated at first trying to hit off uneven lies. We both birdied 10 which was awesome foe he and I.
Portland Golf Course
Very well maintained, course is very "hilly", too many blind tee shots for my tastes, friendly staff, teed off on time, enjoyed the round
Can't wait to go again
Beautiful course. As a 5-6 time a year player, I found it just challenging enough.
Friendly local track
Great greens, played in 2 hours (first off with a cart!)
Good course
I like the course at Portland difficult and challeging. Greens are quick.
Back to the Future
Played in the Mens Club here for a decade 15 years ago. Still a great course and challenging with some very good improvements. Fairways were great but greens were better and rolled fair and true. Tough but fair and 100% true rolling. It is a "target" golf course so, on many holes, accuracy is more important that length. It you can hit 230-250 accurately, have good irons and can putt well you can score here.
Rain threat kept many away so quick round (3:45) which was amazing for a Sunday on a holiday weekend. Did not get into revamped bar/restaurant but layout looked far more appealing than it was 15 years ago..Going to go back for sure!.
Good course overall
The course is a little hilly for my liking. Some decent drives in the fairway were punished with a harsh up or downhill lie, but that is really the only negative I can think of. Was the first time playing, so gaining some course knowledge of landing spots will help. Conditions were very nice and the course is a pretty drive with some wonderful views. Greens were in great shape. Overall a real nice experience.
Excellent course conditions
The putting greens were in better shape than any other course played this year. Went out in a foursome at 12:54 and were done by 5. Challenging couse, will play again soon
Not for the average golfer
This course is designed for club selection and accuracy. Great course with tough layout makes this course enjoyable in a country setting.
Awesome
We had a great time playing Portland today. The fairways & greens were in mid season shape on April 12th! Bunkers were perfect....no rocks or stones. Staff was amazing ! The new FOX restaurant was incredible!!! The staff was A+++ only to be trumped by the amazing food. My group will be back !!!!!
