Sussex Pines
I wish Sussex Pines had a few more par 3 - 120 yard tees, but this is a fun course and it is in pretty good shape. Grass off the fairways could be cut a little shorter.
Hope you enjoy SP.
Winter Round
Sussex Pines is my go to course in Rehoboth. Green we're good considering the season. The cart paths need some attention, but overall this is a GREAT course for the money.
Back nine is much more interesting
Did not expect much in February. Course was in adequate condition. Lots of bare ground and clumps of grass even in the fairways. Greens brown but puttable.
Course in bad shape
Second time I played here in September. Course has gotten worse. As stated in other reviews, tee boxes and fairway (and I use that term with caution here) are sparse or long weedy grass.
Greens are also really bad. Looks like they have given up on this season as nothing is being done to correct anything. Don't pay full price.
Still suffering from recent fire
Played today (September 8) with a golf now hot deal. A recent fire destroyed the maintenance shop and fairways and tee boxes are really suffering. Fairways go from bare earth to long grass making every shot a trick to find. Greens are still well maintained and layout is good. Need to hit straight as many fairways are tree lined.
Hope they can recover for 2017.
Avoid this course until it receives maintenance
Very poor course conditions, worse I've ever experienced in 100s of rounds of golf in North America. Fairways, bunkers, tee boxes, green sides all very poorly maintained. Not worth money. Bunkers never raked or trimmed. Rough and tee boxes overcome with dense weeds. The greens were playable. Too bad it's not kept up since the layout and surrounding areas are nice.
Summer Conditions
Greens were generally good, fairways were spotty. It has been a tough summer for growing grass.
Good Value
Course had nice layout and a very good value. I played 18 holes in under 3 hours. Fairways were not well maintained and summer heat evident on condition. Greens were well kept though, but traps were like concrete. Hit 2 balls pin high in trap and ball bounced out.
good pace of play
Tee boxes and fairways were not in good shape. Played 18 holes in 3 1/2 hrs
Ups & Downs
Seemed like I was greeted by someone that was upset I booked through Golfnow. I showed up at 12:20 for a 1pm tee off, then the guy behind the counter said, go practice, we will try to get you out, we are pretty booked up. What is the point of booking a tee time then? All for not, as got out just before 1. Was supposed to be a 4some, but let a 2some out and paired me with another single instead of making all 4 of us play together, which is curious if you are "all booked up". All in all a good day, but the course was in pretty rough shape. Dry patches everywhere, and lots of places where water did not drain well. Would not pay $40 to play, but since I paid $20, this seemed to be a fair price for what I got.
An OK course!
This course is in poor shape, especially the fiarways. I would only play this course if I can get a reduced rate like Golfnow provided. This course is not worth paying full price! I would only recommend it to a friend if they can get a reduced rate!
Good course layout
Great course layout but the course was in bad shape. Bunkers had very little sand and were filled with weeds. Not worth the price unless you get a hot deal.
Nice track
Wide open front nine so score well because back nine gets tight and adds water. Just another solid course in Delaware.
Nice layout
Good course- winds nicely thru the trees-greens were very nice- moderate speed. Nice layout - would play again
OK course
Course layout was nice. Maintenance was lacking in a few areas. It was a hot afternoon and there was no one ahead of or behind us. Greens were of moderate pace but in pretty good shape.
Sussex Pines
Course was not busy but still put myself and another man with a married couple. They were very nice but would have been much more comfortable playing by themselves. Consideration on the part of staff would be to let us go as twosomes. The result was a painfully slow round that slowed up everything for any behind us.
Good Value
We've golfed at the Rookery several times as well as Old Landing. This course sits at a level between those two courses (but closer to the Rookery) in terms of playing conditions and general amenities. It is pretty wide open with the exception of a few holes. The greens are deceivingly challenging but fair. We got a 25% discount on GolfNow which was a good value for the round. We'll be back next year!
Sussex Pines CC had an unfortunate fire in the maintenance area in early August that destroyed 95% of the equipment such as mowers, bunker machines, tractors, aerifiers and all of the chemicals that were to be used to treat the course for weeds etc. The record heat added to the challenges faced by the green superintendent the last few weeks. The decision was made to focus on the greens which are still some of the best in the area. All efforts for the recovery of the rest of the course will begin once the insurance issues are finalized (which could take several weeks). Our apologies to Tommy from upstate New York and please know that all efforts are going to as speedy recovery of the fairways and bunkers and tees as possible.
