Very poorly ran club
This year the course has gone downhill. A leasing company has taken over this course as of the start of this year and has no clue on how to run a golf course. Putting so many deals out there to attract as many people to come to the course to continue to run it to the ground. Over booking the course to make it unbearable to play. 15 minutes between shots is common here. Not having a cart 15-20 minutes prior to tee-time is common. No Range balls available is common. I feel sorry for the Superintendent Joe. He has no shot of keeping up with how folks are treating the course and the management group over-booking and providing resources to maintain. No Sand in traps/or course maintained, Tee boxes are a wreck and the greens are diseased with black marks all over them. Total shame to see this course in this condition. With all these super deals this management company is wrecking the club… 1 dollar memberships- pay a dollar a day and play anytime for a dollar, Players club- 29 dollars a month get unlimited range balls play for 20 dollars after twilight for 20 bucks and a beer and sandwich. (This all sounds good- but attracts some shady characters who do not appear to care about anyone or the course) I’ve seen golf carts in the sand, I‘ve seen greens that have been driven on and people running over the flag sticks, signs ran over and demolished garbage all over from people running them over and breaking the holder.
No customer service on the course. No Ranger on course (If there is one, he is out empting garbage cans on course or looking for golf balls), no help getting beginners moving along and keeping a tolerable pace of play. Last several times I played, we all left after 9 holes- we were already past the 2.5 hour mark approaching 3 hours. Could not keep our focus because of the constant delays in between shots. Couple weeks before, we had a 4-some jump in front of us from being in the clubhouse drinking and eating (Which is fine- But not at the expense and time of my group and the rest of the course pace of play) Group was confrontational when we question where they came from- Very uncomfortable situation to say the least. Playing here in 4-4.5 hours? Good luck- Go to Frog Hollow, Chesepeake Bay, White Clay Creek, Odeasa National or Patriots Glen.
Great Layout, winds made it more challenging than usual.
The course was in terrible shape two years ago and I promised myself to never play again. New ownership has helped the course conditions and it's playable once again. Five years ago it was a great course with consistently good condition fairways and greens. Worth the money at $50, as long as the pace of play keeps rounds under 4 hours....
Course was in good condition
Like the layout. Confusing on the par 3 #8 hole and #17 hole . Greens were aerated and cart path only. Would play again
Great open course layout
Good day and under 3 hour single player round. Windy but still fun.
Exceeded my Expectations
I had read the recent reviews and decided to take a chance on the course to see for myself. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the course was. It was nice to see a public golf course that still has so many bunkers that are well-maintained. The greens were in very good condition, as well.
I will return to play it again.
Rob T’s Review 2/6/24
I play Back Creek several times a month now. I used to play more often when I was a member of the Players Club but that associate membership was terminated after the course was sold to the Jaworski Golf Group. I’m looking forward to future improvements to the course with new ownership; hopefully the prices won’t go up to much.
Gonna be honest on this one, Jim.
Tee time was 8:36am, starter was immediately trying to wave us over early at 8:25 while we were on the chipping/putting green, we stick the schedule and like to warm up and get a feel for greens, typical bogey golfers. After we tee off, they let a single go behind for some reason, they should’ve let that person go first, common sense isn’t too common I suppose. The golf carts were slow, they had a ball wash and club wash on the carts, neither of them had water in them and they wouldn’t get us a pitcher of water to put in the cart, cmon man tell the starter to do his job and maybe try looking better. There were no water coolers at any of the tee boxes, kind of annoying because the kitchen isn’t open to even get us some water. There wasn’t a beverage cart either. Bunkers need major help, almost all of them require you to pick up 1/4inch stones or just move the ball entirely, fabric showing, staples laying around, some fairway bunkers were mostly clay with sand being washed out into the middle. There were no yardage markers, not even a 150 marker. Other than that it was an ok course.
Hopeful
Always enjoy playing Back Creek, but sure hope the condition of the entire course get better. It wasn't the way I remember from years ago.
Course has recovered nicely!
Course was getting pretty shabby over the last couple of years but it has greatly improved this year following change in ownership.
