Little green to be seen
I thought the course conditions do not warrant the price point. Fairways were sparse with little grass , course layout mostly straight hole after hole. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
plesantly surprised
mature course tree lined ,greens were great, need to land shots in right place course is challenging in that respect
greens well protected. looking forward to returning to meet the challenge presented to the golfer from the design layout of the course
Rookery north golf course
The course was in great condition and the pace of play was good. We even had walkers in front of us and the moved along at a nice pace. The staff was very courteous also. I’ll play there again. Thank rookery north.
Course was in bad condition
Lots of dry bald patches near and on the greens. Three of the fairways were under maintenance but were hardly playable. The other fairways were crabgrass and hard dirt.
The course layout is well above average it’s just a shame that it was in such poor condition especially for the price.
Pricy but a good round
I know Rookery South is a newer course so in my mind i thought this was newer as well. Enjoyable round but i think the price point for this course is way to high. This is a fun but average course.
Not worth the money
$55 a person plus fees was way too much for this course. Course in terrible shape. Lots of bare spots, weeds, bumpy greens. Played here before and it was okay, definitely has fallen off. The sister corse Rookery South is excellent. This is a $25 course at best, play elsewhere.
Course has great character love the setup
Course has a great character to it the setup is wonderful we all love playing there who played here again and again
Lovely Course
Lovely course, when there is rain a few days before the course is always very vibrant. Challenging layout if you can't hit it straight. I would recommend this course as the place of play is extremely acceptable and the staff is friendly.
Don't waste your time
The course is in horrible condition. The tee boxes are dead, the fairways are weeds but surprisingly the greens are decent. We paid a Sunday Fun day rate of $60 which included a $10 voucher for food either at the turn or at the end of the round. We had an 11:21am tee time and had already had breakfast so we decided to wait until we were done. BIG MISTAKE. Kitchen closed at 2pm. There is $20 wasted for our twosome. I live over an hour away. Chances are I'm NEVER going back there to play EVER!!
Now public with a new name
Shawnee is now The Rookery North and open to the public.. Same facility with a name change effective March 2012. Mature parkland style course, built 50 years ago and expanded a few years later.
Bermuda fairways are not extremely broad but are not US Open narrow, either. They are over-seeded with a rye for early season color but brown out a bit in summer heat. Do not expect a lot of roll on the drive. Undulating Greens are not large and a touch faster than the average public course. Fairways bunkers are well-placed challenges for the average golfer. Greenside bunkers require getting the ball up as well as out. Grip it and rip it types need to bring their get-out-of-tree-trouble shots as most fairways are lived with mature pine/oak trees.
This course does not get a lot of play; one could walk in and be on the 1st tee in minutes from about noon on. Tip: get the "bag" of ~30+ practice balls for $4.00 for a warm-up. I can get around in 3.5 hours on foot. Cost is average for the outer reaches of the DE/MD seashore area. Staff friendly and cordial. Restaurant/grille area maintains the private club setting. beverage cart runs on weekends only.
