Friendly and fun but not worth the money
All aspects of this National Links course need improvement. Such a historic course deserves tremendously more resources so that improvement can take place. Hole markers, paths course and clubhouse in need of reno.
Best Bang For Buck
While the amenities are few and far between, the staff more than make up for it and are super friendly. The new driving range in almost without flaw, though the course itself has a few. Somewhat bumpy greens, some fairways that are a bit patchy in places (Though to be fair I went in early spring and I'm sure conditions will improve as the season goes along and the grass grows in). As for difficulty, this course is SURPRISINGLY challenging. Holes 11, 12, and 13 is the toughest stretch. Be prepared to lose some balls here, especially on 13 which is a par 3 over a pretty wide river, up onto a shelved green. All in all this is my favorite course in DC proper. East Potomac is too crowded and flooded most of the time, and Rock Creek Park hardly qualifies as an actual golf course. All in all a great value for DC residents and those visiting, especially on a weekday.
Poorly staffed and unorganized
Played a round on a Sunday afternoon. The second we got there it was obvious that the course was either understaffed or simply disorganized, or both. Getting a cart from the starter was an unnecessarily long experience and he never told us when to go out and start. Once on the course, it was obviously neglected and run down. For the price we paid it was absolutely not worth the course conditions! Pace of play was a huge problem and was never enforced. It took me and a buddy nearly 3 hours to play 9 holes. Overall a bad experience and will never be coming back to this course again.
DC Historic Public Course
Very convenient place to play while visiting in the city. Dirt and gravel cart paths. Not a bad layout. I will play here again when I next visit the area.
A great course!
We love your course. A few holes are super challenging. We are average players so we like the varied holes. We did notice this time of year there were many droppings from the geese. We gather there is not much you can do to correct this force of nature. Aside from playing enjoyable holes, the views of the metro, the old stadium and all that naure has to offer is a delight. Thanks so much. As we have moved back to the area for a stint we will continue to enjoy your course. Thanks so much.
A Hidden Gem in the shadow of RFK.
Great Old course! The back nine is especially nice. 3 and Half holes built on an Island in the Anacostia river. 5 other holes run along the river.
The front nine is a little compact and lots of golfers playing in the wrong fairway. The fourth hole wraps around the 8th tee box so be careful on 8.
I played in November when the course was dormant. I would really like to play next summer when it is all greened up!
I would highly recommend.
Pace of play was really good
Not a good looking course at all. The clubhouse is uuuuugly! Restrooms are very clean but look like a warehouse restroom. The course layout is confusing, especially hole 10 which is close next to the range and the fairway is not defined so balls get mixed with the range balls. Fairways are in very bad conditions, but greens are okay.
Enjoyable day @ Langston
The greens were in nice shape and the layout is interesting, especially on the back 9. This course has an illustrious history and a great future ahead.
Noticeable improvements with new ownership
Drastic improvements on the course since new ownership has taken over. From what I can tell, new irrigation systems have been installed so overall fairway conditions have improved drastically. Greens are really starting to take shape as well. Hole 10 has gotten a lot of TLC and it shows. Excited to see the continued investment by the new ownership pay dividends over the next few years.
Langston Golf
With the new management group, the course conditions have improved.
Worst pace of play/management I’ve seen
It took us 2 hours to get through the first 3 holes. Groups were just jumping on the first hole without a tee time, no starter to control it. Whenever we finished a hole we had to wait in line behind 2-3 other groups before we could tee off again. Overall the round took 6 hours and we stopped on 15. They don’t serve food or drinks past 5 pm. Overall a decent course for the price but the pace of play ruined it. Will not be returning
Nice course to play.
1st time I've been here, staff is friendly and the club is nice and clean. The course is really nice. Only draw back, there are no markers for red or yellow.
Avoid
This course has its purpose and once NLT is done with the reno it might be worth revisiting again.
For now I dont think I would consider this a golf course as much as its a muddy piece of land with some flag sticks in it.
