Clinton Hill Country Club
About
Clinton Hill Golf Course has a classic, player-friendly layout that has been open to the public since 1970. The traditional design is gentle enough for beginners but there are still challenges in store for the more experienced golfer. The rolling fairways are lined with mature trees and the approach to the massive greens demands proper club selection. The greens are in good condition but they can be tricky and hard to read. Each nine has a distinct character and different set of challenges that will keep golfers on their toes. While the front nine is longer with numerous strategically placed bunkers, water hazards come into play on all but two holes on the back nine. In addition to having an enjoyable layout that appeals to a wide range of skill levels, Clinton Hill Golf Course is also a great value.

Don't play this course any time soon.
We picked CH because in previous years it was in decent shape and has some longer holes so you can use all the clubs in your bag. Unfortunately there are some MAJOR issues, like not having grass to hit off of in the fairway. We were constantly moving the ball to find something to hit from. Tee boxes need a lot of work. Greens were aerated and sandy but overall in good shape. The fringe was clumpy and bunkers don't appear to have been raked in weeks.
If all of that wasn't bad enough, they sent out one of the workers to tell us to keep up our pace! That was somewhat laughable because we had just finished our 5th hole in 1hr and 6mins. I believe that is under the standard rate of play. Since there were four of us, we did let a single and two threesomes play through. Still finished the round under 4 1/2 hours (and we are not scratch golfers by any means).
Overall, it was not a pleasant experience, we will not be back.
no grass on fairways, greens had just been airiated with alot of sand, made putting difficult
layout was fine ,grass needs to grow on fairways . needs work on cart paths.
February Golf
Nothing like getting a day in February to play a round of golf. The ease of booking tee times along with the friendliness of the staff made it a great day. For February the course was in fine shape. Only minor critique is I wish they wold have had the grill open after the round was complete. We wanted to sit outside and enjoy the rest of the day. But in their defense who wold have expected a beautiful day in February to have a packed course. Thanks Clinton Hills and Golf now.
Thanks for the review! We are glad you got to enjoy the beautiful weather in February. Looking forward to seeing you again and always appreciate the feedback.
All the Best,
Clinton Hill Management
Worst designed course I have every played
Quite a few holes have blind shots. Greens roll nice if you get a line without any divots. No one repairs their ball marks. Difficult course for beginners. One par four is a 200 yard uphill shot and then a 100 yard carry over water. The 18th is a par five that is a 250 yard uphill shot that was playing into a 15 mph wind. Then you have a 75 foot drop off over water with a 100 to 125 yard carry. Your second shot will be a long carry or try to layup to the 15 yard wide plateau without going long. I paid $10 on a hot deal and felt I paid too much.
Nice course
Course is in good condition greens were good too. They had a worker blowing off leaves which was nice this time of year
Long grass
The greens and fairways were cut very long. This made for the drives to not roll out and for the green to be very slow. Also, the bridges on the course are in need of repairs as is the cart path on some holes. However, the course is. Good value for the price.
Will play again
Hadn't played this course for several years; forgot how really nice it is. The ladies t-boxes were some of the best I've played -- thanks for remembering that gals appreciate manicured t-boxes too. The back nine is quite challenging due to water on most of the holes.
Fun course
This is a great course to play and always a lot of fun
Show me five
Had a great time for my friend birthday I let him win by one he was happy even though he didn't know it I'll beat him & the course next round
Glad you had a great time!! We appreciate you choosing to play with us for your friends birthday and we look forward to seeing you again. And don't worry, we won't tell your buddy that you let him win!
Not a deal for weekend walkers
First off I'd like to say that the course is nice, in good shape except for the greens. The greens are smooth and putt well but the surface on them is very thin with a large amount of pockmarks from old unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. The layout is ok with a couple of hikes between greens and the next tee.
What was really poor and the reason I would not recommend this course to a walking player is the rates. My wife and I called to book a tee time. The phone is answered by a machine that tries to encourage you to go to their website. There it wants a lot of personal information and prepayment by credit card. If you hit 2 to be connected to the pro shop we have had issues with them simply refusing to answer. When we were finally able to find a day when they answered we booked a time and showed up to play, only to find that they "did not have a weekend walking rate" despite the receipt CLEARLY showing a $11 9-hole green fee and a $7 half cart rate for each of us. We played anyway and walked.
The pricing issues and the thin green surfaces make this an issue for us so we will not be returning here. A shame considering that this is otherwise a rather nice course.
good course
grew up playing this course, still can be a tough course if you turn your game that way. The par 3 hole (with the bridge #15 ) shame to see it closed due to the collapse, Need to fix it
Its a nice course to play, always enjoy it
Great Value
I have always regarded Clinton Hills the best value in the Metro-East but my favorite
hole, the 14th, has had a bridge out all summer necessitating a long walk around the lake and almost in front of teeing golfers. Please get it fixed soon.
Terrible grass.
The staff was friendly but the grass on the fairways, greens, and tee boxes were terrible. Not maintained at all, and was hitting off pure soil at times.
We appreciate your feeback and are sorry to hear of your experience, but we are a bit surprised by your review. We have been receiving many positive compliments on the condition of the course recently, especially the condition of our greens. In fact, many of our regular golfers have gone as far as to say that the golf course is in "the best condition that they have seen it in years". We will take a closer look at the course to see what we can improve upon.
good course, great value!
This course was a great value. Fairways - average, greens above average. They actively water this course to offset the current dry month. Multiple crew members visibly working on general maintenance and cutting and filling some bunkers. Course is a bit further than I normally like to drive to get to but the value (price + quality) is worth it.
Beware of bad weather policy
We golf at this golf course quite frequently. Most of the time they take good care of the grounds and for the most part, the course is pretty busy. The golf carts are very nice and we really like the layout. We did have a bad experience with our last booking as far as the course is concerned. Prior to our tee off, it rained for a few hours. Conditions cleared and we were able to tee off. After playing 9 holes we decided to leave as the course was just to saturated. Other golfers were also leaving. We asked the course if we could obtain a voucher so we could come back and play our remaining 9 holes as we had paid for 18 holes. We were told there is nothing they can do and we had to "Take it up" with Golfnow. I called Golfnow and they definitely took care of us but they even commented this was not very good cust service from the golf course as most courses want you come back to visit so most would go ahead and give a 9 hole voucher out. We were not trying to take advantage of the situation, we just wanted what we paid for. We learned a lesson...check out the course before you actually tee off. Like I said, thumbs down on the course that day but huge thumbs up to Golfnow for stepping in and making this right.
VERY DISAPPOINTED
NO grass in fairways and no sand in bunkers. I normally play this course 3 to 4 times a year. Will not go back until mid summer if at all this year
Spring has sprung
Clinton Hills is shaping up and is in good condition for this time of the year. Bunkers need more sand and fairways have not come in, but teeing ground and greens look good. I enjoyed the round and must note ...they have new carts. Great value and local jewel.
Good greens
Enjoyable to play course in good condition greens very good layout fit my game from senior tees would recommend course to others vet friends to come out
DLB
This is normally a good course. There was not a course marshall so the pace of play was extremely bad. There were a lot of kids on the course on a Saturday afternoon. I paid for 18 and quit after 11
Thank you for the review! We are happy you came to see us and appreciate the great feedback regarding the course conditions! We hope we receive better weather soon to work on these things and hope your next round will be better for you!
