PrairieView Golf Club
About
Owned and operated by the Byron Forest Preserve District, Prairieview Golf Course sits on a scenic stretch of land that overlooks the Rock River. The layout will test different skills with plenty of variety, offering both open, links-style holes and tight, tree-lined holes. The design takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating the varying elevations into the large and undulating greens. The breaks can make the greens hard to read and they're made even more challenging by more than 60 bunkers strategically places along the borders. There are also water hazards in the form of ponds and a meandering stream that come into play on five holes. In addition to the course, there is also a 15-acre practice facility with a driving range, two putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with two bunkers.

Friendly Clubhouse staff!
Clubhouse staff was very friendly! The new golf pro, Andrew, introduced himself and told me his story about his previous jobs and his thoughts on making an already great facility into an even greater facility! Prior to the round the clubhouse staff gave me a few course layout pointers, and after the round they asked how it went and asked how I shot. I would highly recommend this course to anyone! For just opening a week ago the course was in great shape! Two thumbs up for the club pro and the superintendent! I will be playing this course a lot more this year, well worth the drive for me. If you haven’t played PV yet, you need to!
Slowest round ever
The course is in ok shape. Greens are pretty shaggy and it is an easy layout. Probably the shortest 7000 yards I have ever played. Pace of play was horrendous. On one hole we had 4 groups (4 tee times) with not a Marshall in sight. Spend your money elsewhere. Not worth the money even with a discounted rate.
Course was in great shape. Well worth the money. Will be sure to play it again before the season is over
Great place!
The course was in great shape. What a beauty! The vistas, terrain. And if your mind wanders, like mine, it's fun to watch a crop-dusting plane and helicopter as I did today. Staff was friendly. It helps that I got a GolfNow hot deal at 1:18 p.m.
I wondered who designed PV. The late William James Spear! Wouldn't you know it, he also designed another of my area favorites: Marengo Ridge.
Weird City, though. I'm always in awe of those nuclear towers south of the course. PV's carts are powered by who else? Excelon Generation.
By all means, play this beaut.
Excellent Value / Excellent Conditioning overall
It's a long drive to Byron from where I live. Always worth getting up before dawn and making the trek to play early morning on weekdays. Greens/Fairways/Roughs at proper length and speed and the bunkers were this day incredibly well maintained and raked. Nary a footprint. The course itself is a wonderful well routed challenge and the back nine is very picturesque with lots of elevation change. Front nine not so much but still a solid test. Water jugs on course and good range/practice facilities. Clubhouse also nice. Enjoyed our quiet in the countryside with views of the Rock River and nuclear plant.
Always a solid 4 star plus experience. Have to downgrade as both times upon arrival the pro shop employee has been a tad surly with us. We've been on time and ready for our tee time in both instances. If you're not a recognized local just be prepared for that. Several of the white tee boxes need of work...tough to find a level non divot stance and it seems to be tradition at this track to just leave or pound your tee into the ground after teeing off.
Disappointed!
Gonna partially chalk this up to recent heavy rains, but after reading excellent reviews about this course, was expecting much more! Signage indicating where the next hole was located was non-existent; in front of the greens was over-watered, so the ball hit soft and nearly plugged often; sand was very hard; and greens were the slowest I have played this year, and two were wet where sprinklers apparently malfunctioned. The highlight for me was the carts, right up until our GPS unit stuck and wouldn't update. At one point we were still 100 yards from the green and the cart locked up, forcing us to back up for 150 yards before we could use the cart in forward again. Staff inside was not friendly, and one of the workers didn't even know where the first tee was. It was sunny and hot on a Sunday afternoon, and they pulled the bev cart by 2 p.m. DID NOT enjoy this golf experience!
One of my Favs
Always enjoy my trek out here. I'd play here on a regular basis if it wasn't 70 minutes away.
Course in fine shape.
Staff always friendly.
Not crowded during the week.
Beautiful golf course great value

Great Place To Play
A great course to play.
The value for the course is great.
I traveled an hour to get there but the course didn't disappointed me.
It was worth of travel.
Layout is great and fun to play.
Some holes could be challenging but anyone can enjoy the course.
I will go back and play again soon.
Bent grass fairways
Great staff, great golf course. Greens in particularly great shape. My best putting round in a long time.
And I’m back this way I would play at his golf course again very nice course
Awesome
Play here a lot and enjoy it every time great course great staff.
Nice course
Nice course for this area. There’s only one other course within 20 miles. The only reason I didn’t give them a five star rating is because the greens were very slow and bumpy. Other than that we had a great experience.
Great Course for Average Golfer
Enjoyed playing Prairie View course. Course was well maintained and greens were very consistent. Nice practice area. The fairways are generally wide and open which was great for me. We played the White tees at about 6150 yards but the course could play significantly longer for better players from the blue/black tees. Played 18 on a Thursday starting around 12:30 in about 3.5 hours Nice GPS carts. . I would play this course again.
