Hard & Fast Long Rough
Balmoral Woods is in decent shape. An unusual 38/34 set up course starts out long and continues to play that way from the blue/white tees. Lots of "hidden" water and any tee ball remotely off line is severely penalized. Decent wooded routing requiring thoughtful shaped shots. Roughs were very inconsistent and a crap shoot. Fairways in nice shape traps were decently maintained. Several tees you needed a hammer to get your tee in the ground. Sloping greens most back to front. We had several front tucked pin positions right on the top of ridges and with the rock hard greens and aprons it made for a challenging day. Nice old school halfway house at 8th tee and you come back to it at the 13th tee. One of my pet peeves is the use of rubber inserts which this course uses above their cups to protect the hole lip. Hate those things and they should be banned....either paint the cup lips or just leave them be...not natural and careless golfers (now with many of them pulling their ball out of the hole with the flag in) cause these rubber "protectors" to come up to very top and almost over the cup lip.....had a few ridiculous lip outs that may have dropped without the protector.. Decent very dated clubhouse beware the tap water and shower water is incredibly hard and has a funny taste. Balmoral Woods is an okay place....it's just not for me most days doesn't fit my eye and seems a bit "tricked" up when the greens are like concrete. 3.5 stars. Recommend..
Enjoyable Golf Experience
Balmoral Woods is a big tree lined golf experience where strategic placement of your tee ball is required on nearly every hole. The course layout is exceptional as each of the holes are unique - requiring the ability to move the ball in all directions with a variety of straight, doglegs (both left-to-right and right-to-left), elevation changes and a few blind shots as well. Course conditions were quite good despite the wet conditions requiring 90 degree cart rules on most holes and 'stay on cart path' required for 6 holes. The par 3 tee boxes were in need of care with significant bare spots from unrepaired divots despite a divot repair sand bucket available for use at each tee. The only significant negative was annoying 'horse flies' were swarming on holes 10 through 12...otherwise a very enjoyable golf experience!
Dandelion Weeds for roughs
We lost so many balls in the thick dandelion covered roughs. Absolutely terrible. Starter never told us to stay on the cart path for the first two holes. Staff Guy came up on us at 2 and was cool about it but the starter should have told us. Pace of play was slow. A lot of hidden shots. Narrow fairways. Terrible tee boxes. Not worth the money we paid.
The course is one the nicest courses in south Suburbs .The grass was quite high and you can lose a ball easily..The staff does a very nice job
Scenic and fun
Played during wet conditions but course drained well. Well worth the trip. First few holes are just ok. Then rolling hills and forest. Beautiful. We will be back.
Cart path only since still very wet greens were very good
Always challenging and fun. Some real tough unique holes. Course knowledge and a range finder are your friend. Stay below the hole!
Really Good Layout
Really Good Layout. Driving the ball well becomes a premium after the first few opening holes. One of the toughest par 3s that you will find in Chicagoland on the back nine. Be careful, the greens look tame but filled with subtle breaks. Have fun!
Balmoral is a Top Quality Golf Course
A truely fantastic golf course. Each hole is different and very challenging. The condition of the course is always superb, and the manicured bent grass faiways and undulating greens makes it an absolute treat to play. The golf pros and staff are personable, guest friendly and helpful and the clubhouse after the round makes playing the 19th hole ... the easiest hole on the couse. I would highly recommend Balmoral Woods to any golfer. You will not be disappointed.
David - St John IN
Winds were blowing 25 mph + but it was nice to play senior tees that were available here.... we loved the fast tough greens....
Nice and challenging
This course starts you out with 4 Par 5s in the front nine. The elevated greens are fun to shoot at. Nicely manicured course.
Great golf but rude clients
Individuals playing there dont know the rules... will be in front of you when driving, move when putting, etc.... a beautiful golf but once again, the local customers dont deserve this golf
