Fun Course - Fair Conditions
This was my first time playing Apple Mountain.
It reminds me a a lot of small-community, rural golf courses. Excellent people and staff with just average to fair course conditions due to being in a rural area and hence not getting a ton of play to be able to have revenue to keep the conditions nice.
The greens were quite shaggy and very slot. However, the greens were in good condition without a lot of non-repaired ball marks. Other than the fact they were shaggy and slow, I liked the condition of the greens.. There were a couple greens in not great condition (#10, 18). But, for the most part, the greens were very playable.
The fairways were still coming in (Bermuda grass has not yet come out of dormancy). The rough was very "rough" with weird grasses, VERY long and appeared as though the rough on many holes had not yet been cut this year.
The course has some fun holes. All the par three holes play very long (especially from the blue tees) with several of the long par 3 holes being up-hill to elevated greens.
All in all, a fun course, but just don't expect to play on a course with pristine conditions.
Make sure to take some food with you because the club house has no restaurant and has no food (sandwiches, hot dogs, etc.) The only thing the club house has to eat is candy and bottled drinks.
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Don't play there during the winter months
We have played there often and have been very impressed.
they have had a lot of rain in the area but on this trip the course was terrible.
Save your money on this one.

Staff can’t handle crowds
Our family has been playing this course for over 10 years. Conditions are usually really good. Course amenities are
nothing more than a few water coolers and small selection snack bar, but here’s the biggest issue with the course: management has ZERO clue how to handle crowds.
We played Friday and Saturday before Father’s Day. Friday at another local course and Saturday at Apple Mountain. The courses were night and day difference when it came to handling crowds. I’m fine with slow play on crazy busy days, I get it. Both had it. But apple mountain ran out of carts, had no system to get people carts, had NO starter all the while groups were having to wait or miss their tee time because groups ahead got carts because no one knew who to give them to know. Pace of play was 5 1/2 Hours! On an easy, short course. Not a single ranger monitoring pace. They had over 100 people on the course, you think anyone with half a brain would think it wise to send staff out on the course to monitor, but nope. So not only were they over capacity, overbooked, they didn’t even have the basics like a starter and ranger on the course to help play. This is a fine course and worth a 30 dollar round, but avoid on weekends and holidays. They have no clue how to handle crowds.
Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With an uncharacteristically full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. We are glad to see you rated the course conditions and layout to be great during your game. Thank you for playing Apple Mountain Resort. We hope to see you again soon.
Fun Course
It is always a pleasure to play this course !! They keep the rough at a decent height and give you the chance to have a good score !! Pace of play was 3.5 hrs !!
Long Drive for Average Golf
Long drive to the course for an average course. Folks were very nice and the course was wide open; but the greens were or need some help. The fairways are in good shape but they could mow the tee boxes.
Will I likely play there again, probably not. Unless there is some golf package special that happens to attract its just not likely that I'll play there again.
For the money and the time; probably could be a little closer to home; but overall, an average course with very nice people.
Nice course,..but....
If the greens weren’t the worst I have played on in a long time, this course would have been a very good value. But since half of the game is played on or around the greens, I felt like I payed $40 for a $20 golf course.
The course has good bones and a nice variety of holes... long par 4s, short par 4s, same for par 3s and 5s. Nice change of elevation. Nice variety of doglegs.
If you are thinking of playing this course, do yourself a favor and call first and ask for a status of the greens. Otherwise play at your own risk.
Thank you for playing our course and for your review. We apologize that the greens were not up to the standards that you expected. We have just aerified the greens and with no rain in the recent weeks it has a job to get them back to the way we expect them to be. We hope you will give us another try as I know you will have a great time your next time out.
Nice layout
Good course for weekend golfers. Greens were airiated and sanded!
Very pretty golf course
Very pretty golf course with Wide open fairways and rolling hills. Play was a bit slow, but not too bad. It’s a great course for beginners and intermediate players.
Friday round
Front nine pretty good pace, Back nine three groups on every hole. Got to watch holes around us and seen slow play, no one fixing ball marks, dragging feet on the greens (looked like spike marks)and digging the ball out of the hole with putters damaging the holes, must have been members because marshal never said nothing to them. Course was fair , hit the fairway and have shot at birdie.
A wonderful surprise
Course very open and no water holes... Very hilly, but having the golf cart made it quite friendly to play....staff welcoming and friendly...will play again if opportunity presents itself
Greens getting worse.
Greens continue to get poorer. Bumps and dirt patches on almost every hole. Most sand bunkers are covered in hard dirt and grown grass due to no maintence. What used to be a very nice and well kept course continues to get in worse and worse shape. Such a shame. Been playing since 2003. Starting to get not worth the short drive you north.
Greens and bunkers in rough shape
This course has always been in decent if not great shape. Not this time. Bunkers haven't been raked and had a ton of grass growing in them. Greens were rough with some algae spots in them. Have always loved this course in the past. It was disappoimting this time. Hope things are better in the future.
Greens in rough shape for summer.
Atrocious rough. They cut the rough but leave the dead grass so any shot outside of the fairways are lost balls. If you’re a pro and never miss a fairway you’re fine. Otherwise you’re spending your day simply looking for balls that are a dean yards from the fairway.
Golf happy
Good pace of play, Nice course to bring a friend. Easy to keep the ball in play.
Course has reversed the 9s since last year
This is a decent course and they try hard to please. Greens are good, not great. Tee boxes good, no complaint. Fairways very good. Rough is unevenly mown, but OK. Layout is decent, with some interesting elevation changes. Views are boring. Carts in good shape. On course comfort station out of order. Refreshment cart circulates.A good value. Will play again.
Great people and a fun, challenging course
On vacation in Helen, and found this course only 25 minutes away. Knowing what to expect, we had a fabulous round. Yes, there was some clover so we played neon Volviks. Problem solved. Greens were quick. Lots of wide open fairways and not so much elevation change which we liked. The absolute best part was the people. From the pro shop staff to the local guys we were sandwiched between in the morning....all so nice and pace of play was awesome. And there were apple trees and horses....we will be back.
We are glad you enjoyed our course and we look forward to seeing you again!!!
Fun course to play
My son and I played Apple Mountain Golf Course and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is not overly demanding, but it is fun to play. There are some nice elevation changes which make several holes play much different than their actual yardage indicates. The fairways were in great shape and provided very nice lies from which to hit the approach shots. The greens were in really good shape and rolled true. The grass on the tee boxes needed to be cut a little lower, but was ok. We will return to play again this fall.
Course condition
I've played this course quite a few times, and it's never been in better shape ! Whatever there doing, keep it up. Hats off to the super and grounds crew. Really enjoyed it !
