Greens need to improve some
Nice course for seniors- - which we are
Played the tees at 5400 yards so most par 4's play around 320. Par 5's still a nice challenge and will probably take most seniors 3 shots. Fairways decent but greens in April ( when we played ) spotty
Course has potential
With a little more maintenance, this will be the best lower cost value on the east side.
Course conditions
Fairways needed to be cut and the greens had some bad places in them
Friendly features
A very fair and forgiving track. A fun track for relaxing and playing a good round of golf
Same ole Highland
Highland never changes until Summer when they lose 11 & 17 greens to heat. This could be a great course but no upkeep $'s are spent. Waves of cut grass piled up in the fairways from the rain. Overpriced for the condition of play. Right now greens are ok. Sand traps are more like Lake Lanier looked during the drought a few years ago..some water, some sand and mud. I have friends who play here so I do to but they need to shore things up or people will go away. Very few members are left.
The Best Value
The course has the friendliest staff in Atlanta. Everyone is always friendly and ever willing to make sure their customers have enjoyable rounds.
Enjoyed very much, great staff, reasonable prices for food and great prices on drinks.
The course was great because it had a great mixture is challenges which allowed you to be tested.
Great course layout. Challenging in some places but very playable
Played the course on a Friday afternoon. First time. Enjoyed playing at a relatively comfortable pace. Good layout with strategically placed bunkers (found too many of them from the back tees). Loved the back nine. Would definitely play it again when I'm in town next time. The guy in the shop was also super nice.
Paid $8 and that felt about right
Course is clearly on a tight budget. Unkept rough and barren water hazards are a sure sign. Good course to go to slap it around during a practice round.
I LIKE THE COURSE BECAUSE I LIVE IN WALKING DISTANCE
THE HIGHLAND COURSE IS THE ONLY COURSE I PLAYED HERE IN GEORGIA
I LIVE ADJACENT AND UNOBSTRUCTED ALONG THE 17TH FAIRWAY.
Needs attention
Book at your own risk. Tee time is not necessarily the time you will tee off. I was delayed for over and hour due to larger than expected group that played that morning. Staff was ok about it but did not offer me range balls or anything else while I waited. I do not plan to play this course again.
Very good value for the money
Have played this course for the last five year and find it to be suitable for all types of golf players.
Nice Course
The rough was high due to all the rain. However it was a nice course to play. I would play it again.
Rough is tough
Fairways, bunkers and tees are in perfect shape. Greens are mostly good. Few bad spots on some but didn't affect putting.
Rough is brutal. It is grown thick and any shot off of where you should be will require searching. But I like a tough setup and don't mind playing this type of setup. Makes this course much harder and I enjoy it.
Course needs work
Staff was friendly and warned me that the ruff was tough to play out of. What they didn't say was that only the fairway was cut. Everything else was overgrown and full of weeds not just regular weeds but extreeemly large crab grass. Fair way was cut but had weeds also. On more than one occasion my approach shot went over the green and into the high grass surrounding green, it was never seen again. The greens were well kept and moist, putting was great and became faster on the back 9.
If you can't keep it in the fairway...
Keep your good balls in the bag. The grass (and clover) just off the fairways is so deep you'll pass your ball 3 or 4 times before you see it. Must've spent an hour looking for balls that were 2-3 feet off the edges. Mentioned it to the guy in the clubhouse and he said that there are only 4 people cutting grass and doing maintenance right now.
I really like the course and it could be forgiving for those of us with a more than normal pronounced fade or draw, but it drives me nuts looking for balls in the first "cut". I'll check it out again in the winter months when the grass dies back.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
The course was in very good condition and was wide open for the golfers with difficulty in keeping the ball in the fairway. The pace of play was very good and allowed for us to complete our round in four hours. The greens were in excellent shape and the putting was true and firm. Enjoyed the day immensely.
